Hey everyone,

It's been a while since Ive been around here, but I was hoping y'all could point me in the right direction. I have a friend who is a greencard holder and would like to bring his daughter to the States. His daughter is unmarried, over 21, and she also has a 4 year old daughter she would like to bring along with her. What are their options? Could he bring his daughter and granddaughter over to the States?

I am not sure what you mean about “using the passport to purchase the ticket”.  You don’t need a passport to buy a ticket, unless there is some local regulation in Colombia about that? When her details need to be entered for APIS (which doesn’t have to happen when you buy the ticket, it just has to happen before check-in/the boarding pass is issued) then she can use the Venezuelan passport for that, as that is where her US visa is, and she will obviously need that to match the date of birth  on the ticket.

yes, there is exit control in Colombia. I guess you don’t really need a passport to buy the ticket, but when you are ready to check in, it does ask for passport info. That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I guess I’ll have to have her do check in using her Colombian passport and hope they don’t give her a hard time when trying to enter the US. 😓

She does have to use her Colombian passport to leave Colombia, but what I’m trying to figure out is if I have to purchase the ticket using the Venezuelan or Colombian passport. I don’t know if this matters at all. I thought I would use the Venezuelan one since that’s the one she is using to enter the US. I’m afraid that if I use her Colombian passport to purchase the ticket US immigration officers will request her Colombian passport instead of the Venezuelan one and then the dates wouldn’t match.

My mother received citizenship in Venezuela when she was very young so I guess it was some kind of typo in the documentation when they processed her citizenship and it was never fixed for her. I was thinking about purchasing the ticket using my mother’s Venezuelan passport information since that’s the passport she will be using when leaving Colombia so using the birthday information used in her Venezuelan passport instead of the Colombian passport. Do you think she will have issues leaving Colombia that way?

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here I go.

So my mom is originally from Colombia, but she grew up in Venezuela. She has a Venezuelan passport and US Tourist visa. She is been to the US several times, never overstayed or had any issues at all. She usually stays about 2 months and then goes back home. On her Venezuelan passport and Visa her day of birth is showing as April 24 1951. (this detail will make sense in a  bit)

Unfortunately because of the current political distress Venezuela is in and because the US is not allowing flights directly from Venezuela to the US my mom is having to travel through Colombia and since she was born in Colombia and she is also a Colombian citizen she is required to travel with a Colombian passport. Now here comes the issue she is having. She went to get a Colombian passport a couple months ago and when she received it she noticed that her day of birth is showing as April 25^th 1951. She talked to them about it and turns out that’s the actual date showing in her birth certificate and she had no idea and this cant be changed. For some reason she always thought she was born on April 24^th, not 25^th. So as I understand my mom wouldn’t be able to use her Colombian passport and her US visa because the birth dates don’t match due to this error.

My question is, would my mother be okay leaving Colombia with her Colombian passport and then entering the US with her Venezuelan passport and her US Visa (which is also on her Venezuelan passport)? Or could she be detained for this issue?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I need help or guidance on where I could find the information I need. 

I live in the USA and my mother is Colombian born and a venezuela naturalized citizen. She is currently living in Venezuela and her USA tourist visa is on her Venezuelan passport. The USA currently cut ties with Venezuela and we are not allowing flights from Venezuela into the USA, so my mother has to travel from Colombia instead. My mom will be traveling with both passports because she is not allowed to enter/exit Colombia with any other passport, but her Colombian passport since she is a Colombian citizen. Now, this is the part that it gets tricky. When my mom's family migrated to Venezuela a mistake was made on her immigration paperwork saying she was born April 24th 1951, so all her Venezuelan paperwork and passport states she was born on the 24th (she was like 5 years old so she didn't know what was going on), but her Colombian birth certificate actually states she was born on the 25th of April. She didn't realize this until recently when she received her Colombian passport. This was never fixed and now she has two passports (from Colombia and Venezuela) with two different days of birth. Per the USA Embassy they told me that my mother wouldn't be able to enter the USA with her Colombian passport because it doesn't match her US Visa. She would be okay entering the USA with her Venezuelan passport though.

My question is, does US customs check for exit stamps from the country of origin? The reason why I ask this is because Colombia will stamp her exit stamp on her Colombian passport and if they do verify this I'm afraid they will give her a hard time about this. I'm just trying to find out the information I need to confirm that she wouldn't have issues entering the US. Her visa is still valid, she has come to the US so many times in the past with no issues, but of course she was coming from Venezuela. This is her first time traveling from Colombia and that's why I'm not sure if she will encounter any issues.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I went for my interview back in 2010, so I'm not sure if anything has changed due to the current situation in Venezuela. My fiance did come with me to my interview and She had no problem coming with me. She was sitting right behind me while I was having my interview and at one point the person doing the interview asked her to come up and she asked her a few questions and congratulated us for our upcoming wedding and approved our visa. 

You would definitely need a Visa to enter the country, but I would advise you against going to Venezuela. honestly, it is NOT a deal breaker if you cant attend. I know many people who got approved without being there for their interview. As long as yall have enough proof of your relationship that's all they care about.

Your friend probably has not filed US taxes, and legally he is obligated to. They will ask for proof of filing for the visa, so he must do this.

He can get a joint sponsor or use assets. He'd need a US job, which he doesn't have, so he can't be the sponsor unless he has assets.

He can also either move to the US before her or try to prove his "intent to establish domicile" by getting an apartment, applying for jobs, etc, and then move with his wife together.

Hi, I remember you, too I don't believe he's ever filed for taxes. Will this be an issue? He's never ever lived in the states, he just happened to be born there.

I need some help from y'all. I have a friend in Venezuela who applied for a CR1 Visa, they got married in Venezuela. The husband (US citizen) has never lived in the US. He has his US passport and he has family in New York, but that's it.

My question is, does he have to be living in the US in order to file for her? Does he have to have a job or can someone else sponsor them? (Such as a family member) if he does need to have a job what's the poverty line he needs to meet in order to file for her? (They don't have any kids) and my last question, If he is required to have a job, is he required to have it for a certain period of time before he can file for her?

Hey everyone

I have a friend who's from venezuela and his brother came to the US on a tourist visa. He was in the US for about 2 months and just traveled to Spain to visit family, but he's planning on coming back to the US to spend New Years here and then go back to Venezuela late January. My question is, when he comes back from Spain and he tries to enter the US again on his tourist visa, will he have a hard time entering the US since he hasn't been back to his home country (Venezuela)?

SO I have a quick question for y'all!

Now that I am a US Citizen, what do I do if the police ever stop me? before I knew I would hand them my driver license and if they ask for it, my greencard to prove that I'm living legally in the US before, but what about now that I don't have a greencard? Will they know I'm a citizen now? I'm not fixing to carry my passport everywhere I go! lol... Thanks.

Do you guys know if I need my Certificate to register to vote?

So today I got my citizenship certificate and I'm thinking about going to the Post Office and apply for a passport. I wanted to know, do they send the certificate back with the passport or in a separate envelope? Also, Is it smart for me to go ahead and apply for a passport now or should I wait? my Plan is apply for passport and then once I have it go the SS office and update my SSN. Is there anything (that requires me to have my certificate) I should do before applying for a passport?

2015 US Passport Application Tracker List

Just finished My interview! Everything went well. They didn't ask for any paperwork other than my greencard and passport! my oath ceremony is in 2 hours.

Maybe it went fine for them but some CO's are very picky about having the actual transcripts. It's better to be safe than sorry. But in your situation the worst that can happen is they'll postpone the visa until you get the real transcripts which wouldn't be too long since you've already ordered them through mail.

I'm so dumb, I thought this was a consulate interview. But maybe the same applies here? Sorry!!

Yes, This is citizenship only. It just doesn't make sense for them to make a big deal out of it since I already send the transcripts, they have the originals that I got from IRS. The only thing would be the taxes that I filed for this year which was not included with the package, hopefully turbo tax should be fine. I actually talked to another friend and she said she gave them the turbo tax copy and they were ok with it. I guess we'll see after monday.

Someone who had their interview in Atlanta told me it's not a big deal if I have the transcripts with me because since I already sent them with my package they don't really need them, they may ask for it but they don't really require them. The U.S. Citizen birth certificate, passports, green cards is the thing I am required to take with me.

My local IRS local office said they don't offer tax transcripts when I called, that I had to request them online! My interview is on Monday so the forms from turbo tax is the best I can do! we'll see what happens.

Somewhat unrelated but I've been trying relentlessly to call the IRS to get answers but the one time I got through it said the customer service line isn't available after tax season. It's only pre-recordings. If you have been able to speak to a real person recently, PLEASE tell me exactly how you did that in detail. I really need the tax transcripts for my case too. Thank you!

And yes, I do have an online account with the IRS but the 2014 transcript is not showing up there yet + I haven't received my return which is why I need to speak with a live person.

I was not able to talk to someone! it kept saying "due to call volume we can't take your call at this moment" I don't know what to do!! do you all think if I take my paperwork from turbo tax from when I filed for taxes this year, they will be okay with that?

You can call the IRS and have them faxed to you. That's what I did and it was not a problem at all.

Do I need to bring Tax transcripts to the interview??? I tried to have them delivered through mail, but I haven't received them yet. So I went ahead and tried to download them from the website and turns out Tax payers data was stolen last week so the system's down and it will stay that way until the issue is resolved. Do I really need to bring this with me?

For all of you who had an interview for citizenship in Atlanta, GA. What was your experience like? I would love to hear how your interview went and any advice is also welcome! anything I should be aware of? Did you have a same-day oath ceremony?

I finally got my interview notice! took more that a year WOW

My interview is June 1st at 7:00 am. I just read something about Atlanta doing Oath ceremony the same day! is this true? That would be awesome.
