"The Ombudsman left DHS also, but he was actually trying to help petitioners and beneficiaries by actually RESPONDING to the complaints and concerns and attempting to resolve the problems.....and if you look at all the recommendations he's made to USCIS to improve their services and ease the immigration process, he was right on point. Sadly, USCIS hasn't responded to ANY of his suggestions since July 2007, after the price hikes....and coincidently a serious decline in customer service and efficiency. Gonzales was NOT prepared for the surge in applications just before they raised ALL application fees....and that's poor leadership. He should go, only they shouldn't have given him the 'option' to resign, they should have just fired him....months ago."

Does this mean there is no Ombudsman at present as well? If so, any petitions sent to that address would be in the same boat as NSC petitions.

    Does anyone know for sure?

No, they will find a replacement pretty soon if they didn’t find one already .That should future explain how messy is out there and the people we’re dealing with!!!!

What does it take to fire all these incompetent bureaucrats?

Here is what I found :

Statement by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on the Appointment of the CIS Ombudsman

    Release Date: March 4, 2008

    For Immediate Release

    Office of the Press Secretary

    Contact: 202-282-8010

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Timothy Dougherty as the Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) Ombudsman. Michael will serve the department by directly interacting with individuals and employers ensuring that USCIS meets its obligations to the public in the most efficient and effective way possible.

Michael previously served as Acting Director of Immigration Policy and Senior Policy Advisor for Immigration at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Policy and Planning. He returns to DHS after working as legislative counsel to U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, where he advised the Senator on legal and policy issues related to homeland security and immigration. Michael has also worked at the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial attorney in the office of Immigration Litigation and an Attorney Advisor for the Executive Office for Immigration Review.

Michael’s 15 years of policy and litigation experience and a deep understanding of immigration law will serve him well as CIS Ombudsman. In this capacity, Michael will identify areas for improvement in the communication individuals and employers have with USCIS and will recommend solutions that will mitigate identified problems. I’m grateful for Michael’s steadfast dedication to the American public, and I look forward to his leadership and many contributions as we further enhance immigration services.

  2. USCIS will only care about citizenship applications , but not about the I751 and now everybody left in leadership in USCIS , who will care about us waiting for the I-751? I am pretty sure the person that will replace Gonzales will only care about the N-400 applications so he/she show themselfes, but not I -751 anyone thinks the same??????

No, the agency was criticized for their activity in general not only for the N-400 , we will see what's going to happen in the next few weeks

I suggested at one time that a lawsuit against them may speed up the process but....

  3. Congrats, iansig40. Your persistence (in bugging them) finally pays off!

I am not sure how the recent changes of USCIS officials will help the people on this board in the near future. I am glad to see Gonzales go but the ombudsman left, too. That means my letter to him is rendered useless. On the other hand, someone at the senator's office wrote back to me and said they have contacted NSC on my behalf. I will wait to see what the response is. My husband starts talking about taking a vacation in Europe after working really hard for the past few months (50-70 hours a week). It will make me really happy if they give me my card so that I can go on this trip.

    @Nick,

re: Chicago office... I think I paid $12 for parking, just a block South on State street (that's the intersection to the East, right?) there is a garage w/valet parking. The office has security, and folding chairs :) but my wait was actually pretty short. I was there first thing in the morning, a small crowd had gathered to be let in when they opened but they all went their seperate ways once inside.

Bring a print out of your appointment confirmation and the valid passport for your wife. I would also bring copies of the I751 petition and NOAs and Bio.Appointment letter. Can never have too much, who knows what they'll ask for.

What is your actual local office though? You plug in your ZIP code when scheduling the infopass, so I don't think that you can pick where to go?! GOod luck anyway. I'll be back at the Chicago office in a couple of weeks myself.

@Iansig, congrats on your approval! :) The squeeky wheel gets the oil... :D :D It paid off for you. Let us know how quick you actually receive the card.

GC received today ...it took five days !

    The good news is :

I guess now is the time for all of you guys that you've been waiting for more then 12 months to start harassing them in any way possible(letters, calls, Congressman, Senators....etc) .Finally their incompetence was made public and I see more coming in the next few months ,THIS IS JUST THE BEGINING

  6. Awesome, I filled out the electronic form, and the letter was sent with one click. Thanks, iansig40, for staying here and helping out us who is still stuck with USCIS!!!

Who lives in Denver? Can you recommend about which Senator to contact? Or should I contact a Congressman?

  9. Checking case status on line:

"It was reported to us that your IP address or internet gateway has been locked out for a select period of time. This is due to an unusually high rate of use. In order to avoid this issue please take this opportunity to create a Customer account (single applicant) or a Representative account (representing many individuals, such as lawyers, charitable groups, or corporations). Each account allows you to generate a Portfolio of receipt numbers. Building a portfolio containing your receipt number(s) eliminates your need to manually enter the receipt number and extract each case status. You will automatically be emailed changes to each case as updates occur. This email notification will occur within 12 to 24 hours of any progress made for every receipt number contained in your portfolio. There is no lockout feature associated with your portfolio and there is no wasted time on your part checking a receipt number where no advancement has been made."

Anyone else experiencing this statement when trying to check their case status? At least it is something different.

Have you created a portfolio? I think that is what they're asking you to do (instead of checking case# without logging in).

No, I think he tried a combination of other numbers .After viewing three or four other cases you get something like that if you keep continuing

  10. What a location for a field office, 101 West Congress Parkway Chicago, IL 60605, right smack in downtown Chicago. Is there parking there or do you have to pay 18 bucks an hour and get your car back loaded with new dents? Wasn't down in Chicago for a year now, last time all that road construction, took seven hours to go 20 miles.

Do you have to bring a current foreign passport just to get it stamped, do they keep their appointments or make you wait several hours in a jammed room with folding chairs?

Milwaukee office is on the outer edge of their downtown, not quite as bad and can find free parking two blocks away, the St. Paul office is not located in St. Paul but rather 15 miles south at 2901 Metro Drive, Suite 100 Bloomington, MN 55425, but very close to the Mall of America where they have a zillion shoe stores, my favorite kind of shopping. But still is a 400 mile round trip for us.

Seems like a waste just to get a stamp, gas alone will cost 70 bucks, plus with us, three days of lost pay. For a government that takes 70% of our wages either directly or indirectly in taxes, doesn't sound like very good service. And how come they get Veterans day off and I don't? Is it asking too much that only veterans get Veterans day off?

Yes, your wife will have to bring a valid passport so she can get the stamp .

My passport was just about to expire so I got a new one and then I scheduled my infopass and got the stamp on the passport .Two weeks later I got my GC approved

  11. the topic may sound like a silly question. i was curious last night and hadnt checked online for a few months, so i decided to, then our net went down so i went to bed

i logged on this morning and in my email i had an update from CRIS, butit left me confused

    it noted

    _______

Application Type: CRI89, PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED

    Current Status: Card production ordered.

On March 18, 2008, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you.

    _______

only reason im confused is because with all other case status info ive gotten it has said something to the effect of "case status approved" then again with all my other applications, the site never updated properly,or at all.... i usually got things in the mail before i got any email if i got one. im just wondering if this is a very delayed temporary 1 year card to replace the "we've received your application" notice we got back in december

anyhow if any of you got a case status up date like this or simliar to this, please feel free to let me know if this was indeed an approval or a temp card. WO interview.

im sure the card will appear in the mail in the next couple of days and that can confirm if for me, but im still curious!

    thanks!

Yes ,I got the same e-mail ,three of them .Your wait is over !

  12. Some updates about calling the USCIS customer service today. I called and they told me now that since NSC's current processing date for I-751 is July 2006, they can't file a service request for me because my receipt date (1/25/07) is still within the NORMAL processing window. They also have no information on NSC stopping processing I-751 or what is gonna happen to the I-751. Now I am glad that I have my ombudsman letter ready to mail.

Another mistake on my part. I didn't think to make a copy of my I-751 before I mailed it out. Other than that, my letter to the ombudsman's office will be on its way today. I seriously hope USCIS still have all the files for I-751 I sent them. Keep my fingers crossed.

Yep,download the form and send it over together with all the papers you received so far from USCIS (copies) Include a copy of I-751 application.

    Good luck !

Thanks for this, letters on the way.

Yes ,YOU ARE out of the processing window :

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Q : When can I expect USCIS to process my case?

USCIS processes applications in the order they are received by application type. Due to the significant increase in the number of applications filed, processing times have been affected. As a result, average processing times for certain application types filed after June 1, 2007, may become longer. For example:

    Naturalization applications may take approximately 16-18 months to process;

Family-based adjustment of status applications may take 10-12 months; and

Immigrant petitions for relatives and workers may take 9-10 months.

You've been waiting more then 12 months .

The processing date on USCIS website is pointless

  13. I'm saying about the collective action,For that we all need to come together at one task.I'm not saying we should not be on this thread but we should on this thread to use this thread to unite and do something together.

Exactly what are you recommending? We are sharing tips together and all of our information is confidential, are you suggesting we put all of our forms in one envelop and sending those in together?

On another board, they are giving this e-mail address

    cisombudsman@dhs.gov

    for:

    CIS Ombudsman

    Mail Stop: 1225

    Washington, DC 20528-1225

That is Identical to the one at http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/programs/editorial_0497.shtm#3 that explains the form.

    Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman

    Department of Homeland Security

    Attention: Case Problems

    Mail Stop 1225

    Washington, D.C. 20528-1225

But I find no such e-mail address given int the Ombudsman, so the only other option is to send it overnight while waiting the 14 days for them to screen it. Unless some had success with this e-mail address.

No ,the e-mail is not working ,don't use it .

You can't put all the application on one single big envelope and send it over ....this is supposed to be private and confidential.

What you can do is ..have everyone send a letter separately and by the time they will get bombed with lets say 100 or 200 letters describing the same issue maybe somebody out there will address the problem

  14. Now that is useful information, iansig40, thank you.

I did a web search on your address and found this site:

    http://www.dhs.gov/ximgtn/programs/editorial_0497.shtm

Says something about doing an online form, a DHS Form 7001, see if I can find that and get it off.

Yep,download the form and send it over together with all the papers you received so far from USCIS (copies) Include a copy of I-751 application.

    Good luck !

  15. So tired of looking at this!

"On March 30, 2007, we received this CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NEBRASKA SERVICE CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register."

The only e-mail I have received was acknowledgment that we signed up for the automated e-mail updates.

I plugged in different numbers on the least significant digit on my wife's application number and did get different statements than above just to check if they are recognizing her specific application number, so I know they have that in their system and apparently it is unique. Can carry a far more effective communication when I talk to my wall, least I get an echo.

Did you contact the Ombudsman ?

    Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman

    Department of Homeland Security

    Attention : Case Problems

    Mail stop 1225

    Washington, D.C. 20528-1225

The processing time for I-751 according to USCIS website should be between 8 to 12 month.

Did you wait more then that ? IF YES ..then you are out of the processing window and you should call them every week until they send a "Service Request " for your case .That 's one of the tings I did too

  16. so 13 months, just like Bertrand's petition filed 12/06, approved 1/08. So did in fact all of the contacting really speed up the petition? hmmm

Well congrats anyway, now you can be less stressed out.

Yes, I do think that based on the numerous calls I made for the past 40 days kinda fixed the problem.

Something tells me that this approval is not coincidently

No,I wasn't stressed out, I was and I'm still mad that it took so long to process this stinking application while for other took only 3-4 months .This was not fair to me nor to you guys and it's up to you to do something about it

I'm done here , I'm sure a few of you would like to see me gone !

Congrats. I thought we can't contact them unless we are out of the processing window, and now that it's back to July of 06, we are not technically out of the processing window. We did contact the congressman and it got us no where so far.

Yes ,YOU ARE out of the processing window :

Could you do us a favor, please, and post your data with the NSC in this thread, like date on NOA and of biometrics? I would like the readers to be able to estimate their own wait. From a previous post, I assume that the date on your NOA was close to 02/16/07, is that correct? (You quoted them: On February 16, 2007, we received this CRI89 PETITION ...)

    Sure :

    I-751 (Removal of conditions)

    02-02-07 - I-751 sent to NSC

    02-16-07 - NOA1

    03-23-07 - Biometrics

    03-17-08 - Card production ordered

A well deserved gift for St.Patrick's Day !

    It's finally over!!
