  1. I read from some of the posts that one of the requirements during the visa interview is the CENOMAR. I have requested for a copy of my CENOMAR online & just today I received a copy delivered to me thru their courier service. Based on my estimate, I will most likely have my interview during the middle part of March. My question is, will it matter if the date of my CENOMAR request is at least 2 months before my interview date? I am just thinking to gather in advance some of the documents required for the interview & I think that getting a copy of the CENOMAR even if I am still waiting for my packet should be okay...

  3. Hi Seattle2Cebu,

Thanks for the info where to check the appointment dates at the embassy website. I checked it today & still I have no schedule yet. Anyway, I'll check it everyday till I finally get my schedule. Well, I have a question for you. I checked your timeline & it's posted there the dates that your case has been received & left at NVC at the same time the date when your case was received at the Manila Embassy. How and where did you get the dates? I want to post it also in my timeline but I don't have idea where to get the dates. Please help!

You can enter your MNL number online at the us embassy in the philippines website.... it will give you the appt time..

you might already have one.... we have not recieved a packet yet...

  5. Hi Jessica,

I believe that Helen is right that having polio when you were a kid should not be a ground for visa denial. I also had polio 26 years ago and it did not stop me from living a normal life and wanting to have a family of my own. As of the moment I am waiting for my K1 packet since our petition was approved a month ago. I believe it should be soon. Did you have vaccination after you had the disease? I talked to a polio researcher online and he told me the same thing what Helen shared in this post. However, it is best to get the vaccination for polio in 3 shots in order to be completely covered from the disease. The way I understand that having polio in the past won’t make us immune to the disease. This means that if you did not have the vaccine, you must get one because we are still susceptible to get the virus & contract polio the second time. I will have my first vaccination within the week. Good luck to you medical examination & God bless you & your partner in your journey together!

Does anyone know if suffering from poliomyelitis as a young child is going to be a problem during the medical exam? Also I need to have gallbladder surgery to relieve prolonged gallstone problems. Should I have the required surgery before or after my medical exam and can this cause my k1 visa to be denied?

    Jessica

Hello Jessica. Childhood diseases such as Poliomyelitis will not hinder an applicant to be granted a visa. Under The Technical Instructions for Medical Examinations those that need Required Evaluations are the following:

    A. Communicable Diseases of Public Significance

    1. Infectious Tuberculosis
    2. HIV
    3. Syphilis
    4. Other Sexually Transmitted Diseases: Chancroid, Gonorrhea, Granuloma Inguinale, Lymphogranuloma Venereum
    5. Hansen's Disease/ Leprosy
    B. Physical and Mental Disorders with associated harmful behaviors

    C. Other Physical, Social or Mental Disability, Diseases or Disability

Regarding your planned elective surgery for your Gallstones: This will also not cause denial of your petition. It maybe advisable to have it done there since it will be less expensive. But if you can have the medical insurance when you get here in the U.S. then you may opt to postpone your operation and just have it done here. But if you decide to have it done there then what you will need is just a Medical Certification from your Surgeon indicating the Diagnosis and the Surgical Procedure done (Cholecystectomy or Laparoscopy-Chole).

Panel Physicians at SLEC will just ask you about previous disease/hospitalizations. And if you have surgery before and have some scars on your body, they may ask more info about it and if you have a medical certificate, then that will suffice.

    Good Luck.

  6. Thanks for the info YuAndDan! I'm worried about not passing the medical exam because I never had polio vaccination before...

For K-Visas, because K-Visas are NON-Immiagrant they do not need vacciantions done for the visa. Only after entry to the USA and to adjust status from NON-Immigrant to Immigrant do the K-Visa holder need to either provide foreign vaccinations records to US Civil surgeon for transfer to a vaccination supplement, or get vaccinated, and then get record transfered to a supplement by the US C.S.

For most the required vaccinations are:

    • Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR)
    • Tetanus and diptheria toxoids
    • Varicella (AKA Chicken Pox) (Can be tested for)

This all my wife had done just before coming to the USA, and we had them transfered to a supplement.

  7. Hi!I'm still waiting for my K1 packet to arrive. For the meantime I am researching topics on K1 visa process which will help me understand the whole thing. I have questions regarding the medical procedure done at SLEC before the visa interview. How is the vaccination procedure done especially on polio? I had polio when I was still a baby and never had vaccination before. How is the vaccine administered? Is it thru injection or thru the mouth just like what is given to babies? This is my concern at this time coz I'd like to know ahead of time if I need to get vaccination before my actual medical exam. Info in this topic is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
