  1. Lauren and I are preparing to file for our K-1! Yay!

I'm going to ask these questions on the G-325a as I couldn't really find much info on them here. They may be obvious but I'm sure you'll agree it's better to be safe than sorry! I've filled out all four identical sheets (or rather the wonderful Adobe Acrobat has done it for me!) and I appreciate that the G-325a is a somewhat generic form for several types of application. I'm the 'beneficiary' so some of the things on the form that apply to Lauren obviously won't apply to me.

    1. Firstly, the top right corner sports a section entitled 'File Number' with a blank space preceeded by an 'A'. I'm presuming as I haven't made any kind of application prior to this that I just leave this blank. Good so far?

    2. I've skipped past the part with all the former spouses, as Lauren will be my first and hopefully ONLY wife. I've filled in my 5 years worth of addresses but immediately beneath that it asks "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than one year". I'm assuming that as I've ALWAYS lived outside the US, the helpful USCIS clerk that goes through my forms will realise that and it will be okay to leave that blank.

    3. At the very bottom of each copy, it says "Be sure to put your name and Alien Registration Number in the box outlined by heavy border below" As I don't have any such registration number, I'm assuming it's okay to ignore the big bold words and leave that part blank.

Have I got this all right? Other than that, it's been a piece of cake to fill this out!

    Thanks!

    Laurence

  2. "A police certificate must also be obtained from the police authorities of any place where the applicant has been arrested for any reason" - Page 2 of the Pack 3.

These incidents will need to be declared, and in my opinion, a lawyer will need to 'twist the story' as AUBGER said. If the SO is indeed innocent, I hope this doesn't harm their application. It would be really sucky to have your future plans destroyed by a crime you didn't commit.

  3. k, everybody now....i guess bad day for me or somethin, but im just wondering about all this...n it gives me this question....

so if to apply for K1 you as benificiary have to leave us, then u send of I-129F, which takes about 6mths to approve if u r lucky, then it goes to IVC...another 2mths or so, then it gets to Embassy where we r looking at another 3mths or so, now in my case i will need to apply for I-160 which is another 6-12mths...so we ended up to what? 1,5 years IF WE GONNA B LUCKY!!!!!! Ofcourse my fiance needs to keep his job over in us for all this, so he wont b able to visit with me that often........................now just thinking about it, what is the use of all I-129F if the relationship will obviously cool down a little from not being together.....not talking about kids, who need mom n dad to be with them, not seperate............

CAN ANYBODY COME UP WITH SOME POINT THAT MAKES SENCE????????????

it drivs me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! n just to make this all sound even funnier, im away of my sweetheart just for FIVE DYS now!!!!!! FUnny huh? how am i gonna last 1.5 year? :help:

The seperation is awful and the waiting sucks, I know. But the way I see it, is that every passing day is another day closer to being with her, and no sepration or waiting. There's no question that it will be hard for both of you but if you are both determined to be together it will be one of the best things you will do your whole life. I just look forward to that day when I am fully approved. When I am holding that Visa in my hands, all the waiting, seperation and effort will have been worth it.

By the way, I find that the first few days after saying goodbye are the worst. After that it gets easier and I can focus on what we have to do. I hope it all turns out well for you though!

  4. Thanks, everyone, for your advice. Your opinions collectively are speaking volumes to me! I think we will go it alone, as that was my girlfriend's first impulse. I was just unsure, and it's a big thing for us and I really don't want anything to go wrong as I'm sure you can all understand! If the lawyers only serve to complicate matters then it's gonna be best to do it ourselves.

    Thanks again, everyone!

  5. My girlfriend and I will next see eachother in April when she flies over to the UK to stay with me for a week. We've known since November that we're going to get engaged (she just doesn't know what day in that week in April it's going to be! So the surprise will still be there!) and are now counting down the days until she gets here (89 to go)!

Is there any reason why we can't start the process of the K-1 application right now, to minimise the overall waiting time? If it takes (on average) 210 days to process the application, I'm thinking we can save 89 of those days by applying now! Is the mutual intention to marry enough or should we wait until she has that ring on her finger? What would you do in our situation?

Wait? Or get the ball rolling now?

  6. Unless you have some complications in your situation, you can pretty much handle everything on your own.

I've been told this too but I really don't want to leave anything to chance. I can afford to use an immigration attorney, and if it takes some of the difficulty and potential stress out of this I'm going to use it! It'd be nice to know that someone in the know is checking over all the different forms and making sure we haven't missed anything. The process takes long enough as it is and I have the WORST luck with forms and stuff!

  7. I know it's their job to protect their border and prevent illegal immigration, but I think in this case it was disgraceful. They've used Talita's lack of good English against her and prevented her entering the country and seeing her fiance. I can't imagaine how awful that must have felt. It seems like those of us who have nothing to hide will have to be more prepared to make sure that we get where we're going okay! Some form of resistance to interrogation training seems to be in order!

  8. Hi everyone, this is my first post here and can I just say, what a fountain of information this site has proved to be! My girlfriend and I are planning to start the K-1 process soon, once we are officially engaged (!) and I believe it will offer better peace of mind if we use an attourney to act on our behalf with all the paperwork.

I found a website online, www.usavisanow.com and they look like they might be a good choice. I was just wondering if anyone else had experience with this company? Or perhaps if there is someone else you could all recommend? My girlfriend and I are 100% sure we want to get married, and that we want to go down the K-1 route. We just want to find the best help we can for what we can afford (which sadly isn't much!).

I am from England and my girlfriend lives in Alabama, US. She was considering using someone local, rather than an internet based company, so if anyone knows of a good immigration lawyer firm in AL then that would be helpful too!
