  1. I have 6 months here and recently started to hear "superbowl" everywhere!!!!! it is amazing that even the food chain advertising on TV is oriented to it!!!!!

What's the big deal?????? is it a season, how long it takes, how frecuently they have games...... any aditional information will be apretiated.

  2. Okay this may sound like a silly question and jumping the gun a little since she still has to interview with the consular, but what do we do when we get to passport control? We're entering the US together (I'm flying down for a party with her family and then we're flying back together). Since she'll have the K1 and I'll have my US passport, do we go through the "US" section or should we both go through the "non-US passport" area? Do we have to go separately or is it ok (*and better) if I accompany her?

it is not big deal.... after months of paperwork, nobody is going to stop her at the PoE ( i never heard of a case lake that)..... the worst.... you'll have to wait for her to pass inmigration.

  3. hhhmm yes... better than nothing is a foreign DL...... but the best.... is be careful and follow all the rules. I am in Texas and i needed a SSN and EAD to get my DL. prior that, i drived as less as posible and ALWAYS follow the rules. Also kept a copy of my wedding certificate and the car insurance card despite i was not registered.

I have to accept that getting my texas DL, despite being temporary, is a great relief.......

  4. Sounds like you are a little bit confussed about what to do. Read the procedures, choose a path and update your personal information with that info.

    1. Traveling outside the country is expensive. if you apply for a K1 it would be good for you if you have met in person. keep evidence.
    2. Fingerprints are not for you, are for the alien relative... in my case only for AOS...... looong time between applying for K1 and AOS.....
    3. Whaaaat??????? if you are applying for a K1 you need to include your income documentation. Even if she is rich, that doesnt matter for the K1 process.
    4. keep evicence is good, i will suggest pictures and passport stamps. BTW.... what is the relation between chat logs and 30lbs of luggage????????
    5. my advice.... dont become paranoic. please.... make yourself a favor.
    6. homeland security??? i dont know where you read that.... again time between filling for a K1 and entering to the states..... 4 months at least. go to uscis page, on the K1 I-129f the fee is over 400 for AOS is over a 1000..... again... if you have a problem with the fees..... reconsider your economical situation.
    7. why do you need a joint account? once i got married and got my SSN and drivers license, i was able to open a bank account here. before that my husband had to be the main one on the account.
    8. miss anything???? first you have to decide what you are going to do. then we can tell you if you missed anything....

pleaaaaaaase read the procedures and the guides.... choose a path.... and read carefully. this is not imposible, lots of people, including myself did all the paperwork without lawyers with the forum people help.

    good luck.

  5. Tricky question... my personal opinion is that lawyers can not accelerate the process but they DO know the procedures and you will avoid a RFI. I did all the paperwork by myself and no RFI's ever!

Pregunta capsiosa.... mi opinion personal es que los abogados no pueden aceperar el proceso pero ellos conocen los procedimientos y eso evitara RFI (requisisiones para mayor informacion). Yo hice todo el papeleo sola y nunca tuve un RFI

  6. I was wondering what to do about the checkpoints myself. My fiancee and I were going to spend at least a week traveling after we marry around Texas and even though I do not plan on going through one of the checkpoints it is possible there is one that I have never ran across that we do pass through. After we leave San Antonio we are heading toward Alpine and the Davis mountains and go one night at the Observatory there.

i live outside Austin for more than 6 months and NEVER seen a checkpoint, and we do travel a little bit inside texas.... anyway... as long as you have your documents nothing will happen. I also carried my passport, I-94, wedding certificate... etc. with me until got my drivers license and EAD.....

  7. i can only tell you to be very supportive with her. South americans tend to be VERY family oriented and in most places a woman does not leaves her house (mom and dad house) unless she is getting married. i Think this can generate some problems trying to adapt to a new life and culture. I hope she speaks english, that helps a lot. also try to socialize as much as you can.

I can only wish you the best and recomend you to dont delay things. do the paperwork ASAP so she can get her advance parole. I've seen that between her entry and the wedding there was a lot of time so dont keep delaying things. once she get her AP she can go back to visit her family.

  8. I've been on the states 4 times befor my K1 interview. She (or he...) can travel as long as she follows the rules and do not overstay. I had to move my K1 interview because of my trips and didint have any problem, in fact i think it proves good intentions because i was following the rules.

    good luck.

  9. did you received the NOA2 letters or biometrics interview letter? if you applied for AOS with AP and EAD then on the biometrics it will mention it is for AP and AOS.

it will also say so on the NOA2 letters.

dont trust too much on the uscis case status page.... they take long to register the cases. in my case, i received a letter for my AOS appointment but on the page the status didnt change.

  10. tourist visas are granted only under the condition that you will return to your country (i guess this also aplies to canadians despite they dont need B2 visas). if you overstay a tourist visa that is illegal and can cause you to be denied to enter the States for 10 years.

by the other side..... i heard about lots of people that enter to the country with a tourist visa, get married and stay. then they wait for the paperwork and apart of not being able to leave the country and work legally (and all the other consecuences like insurances, drivers licences, SSNs..... ) nothing else bad happens to them.

You need to know what are your expectations. Are you getting married to someone rich and you wont have to work for some years???? are you going to be able to not go back to canada?????

despite this other experiences, i wont encurage anybody to do it. the best is follow the procedures and do the things the right way.

as i said in another post, READ!!!!! read as much as you can about your options and take your decision.

  11. Hi Lachifa, I applied for a K1 also from Peru and the age difference is not an issue. my current husband is 15 years older than me and nobody questioned it.

What i am going to say here is my advice.

    • first of all, unless you both are going to choose a lawyer, READ!!!!!! read as much as you can, document yourself, learn the procceses, be aware of the timelines. if you want to get married i think there are 3 procedures: K1, K3 and Direct consular filling and something like that. Study the steps and timelines and acording to this, take your desision. I choose K1 because I had a pending work contract in Peru and the date to go and travel to the states to get married was close to the end of my contract.
    • I didint see you saying anything about were your boyfriend lives. was he visiting Peru only or he works there and will be there for a while? that is also important to consider to choose what path to take. BTW my husband also said that he would be very happy to come to Peru to live with me but..... considering the economy (..... and to the americans dont get offended but, in peru we DO know what a real crisis is.......), it didint have any sense for him abandoning his job, pension, Social security... so at the end i am here on the states.
    • i was reading to the answers and somebody said it is not bonafide if you file after knowing each other for 2 weeks. please I also read all the answers and agree with most of them. I just want to add that filling for a K1 wont take less than 2 weeks maybe...... and then the interview in the embassy takes between 3 and 5 months..... so for the date of the interview you both will have at least 6 months dating ( more chatting and all that) and that is enough time to proove a relationship. so if in the next 6 months you are still together and love each other, i bet you wont have any problems.
    • find out if your boyfriend has any police records on the states.... that may be an issue.... this and other conditions, like income, you will find them when you read... so againg READ!!!!!!!
    • my las advice is that if you decide to file by yourself, read, and read, and read...... the procedures are not imposible to do, a lot of people went through them, it is a little bit detail oriented and maybe a couple of tricky questions but it is not imposible.

that's all i remember now i can tell you. good luck.

regards to all the Peru portal members!!!!!!!! BTW i got my AOS interview in feb 18th!!!!!! yeeeeee!!!!!!

  12. Thanks I Quit!!!!!! on sunday 14th i read your post and decided to write a message in http://www.ssa.gov/feedback/

monday evening i got an answer and a mail from the SSA saying i can go now because if my I-94 has less than 76 days doesnt mind if i am married or not. they also sent a memo to the georgetown SSA and on tuesday morning was driving there with all my documents.

i applied without any problem, also took my wedding certificate so my SSN is with my married name. I just went to check my mail and there was my new card

    thanks thanks thanks!!!!!!!

You can get a Social Security number after getting married if your I-94 has no more than 76 days

  13. well... i went to the social security office after getting married with a valid I-94 and they told me that as soon as i am married i am not a K1 anymore and they can not give me a SSNuntil i get inmigration aproval for my new status (AKA work permit o green card).... then, yesterday at infopass office i asked about it again and they told me that i need to wait for my work permit.....

some people was telling me to go to the SSA and dont say i was already married...... personally i am afraid they will consider that fraud. i prefer to wait a little more than getting in trouble with the governement.

and yes.... it's a pain in the *** because i cant get bank accounts, driver license, etc.......

    bye

    K.
