I just returned from the Des Moines field office with my temporary green card, which will allow me to renew my drivers license friday. My anxiety has all but disappeared. But I thought I might explain to you kind folks why it's taken 18 months to get the green card.. The agent told me it's because they put all 3 million illegal's that were allowed to cross the mexican boarder in the front of the line! Read between the lines and my anxiety just skipped up a notch. 😀 I finally spoke to a human after saying "infopass". After I explained I'm not so worried about the GC, but will lose my job if I lose my drivers license, he apologized and set up a emergency appointment at the des moines office. I have yet to hear from them, but have been told I will within 72 hours. Thanks for all the information and support! View from my bugout retirement property..

Fun? lol DMV requires a "unexpired Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551), including an I-94 with attached photo stamped "I-551 Temporary Proof of Lawful Permanent Resident" or a foreign passport stamped "Processed for I-551" Wow, I didn't need the I-94 with attached photo stamped "I-551 Temporary Proof of Lawful Permanent Resident" last time.. Looks like a trip to Des Moines is inevitable, if they'll take me. Do you know if the photo needs to be a passport photo?

Losing my job would be a unplanned scenario.. I planned on working until 63 and I'm turning 58 soon, but I could afford it, barely. I'm just trying to calm myself down or justify the chain of events. Like turning the situation around and saying "thanks USCIS!" Pretending that's what I wanted..

But they never gave me a appointment date or location.. They said they would send me the card..

So why did they send me a message after I sent pictures of my old card and $540 stating "that I do not have to go in for a bio-metrics appointment" due to covid I believe.. And that they would use my old information and send my new card, so I just assumed they were all closed.. Because Im used to having to drive to the office.. I still cant figure out which office is closest or how to contact them..

I truly am screwed I fear.. No more USCIS offices open, and the nearest Consulate of Austria is in new york. Maybe this is destiny, or a sign that i need to retire or take a year off..

No problem Family. I enjoyed my service in the coast guard.. This is a long shot, but I googled I-551 images and see the stamp which is not in any of my five expired passports. But I do see I-551 at the back top left of my expired green card. But that's not a stamp, is it?

Wait a second... The DMV link you provided says the I-551 is for my passport which is expired.. Not my expired GC. And my extension only lasts a year. ive been waiting 18 months.

I never had a problem getting/paying for a renewal because I'm proud to be a Austrian. No it was valid.. Call for I-551 stamp? 🙄 Ive never talked to a human when I call 800-375-5283.. I don't have a valid passport. Ive lived in the states since I was a infant..

I did file a I-90 because uscis says " Renew or Replace My Green Card" Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card; https://www.uscis.gov/forms/explore-my-options/renew-or-replace-my-green-card Yes GC was valid for a year after I was hired.. Thanks for the info on I-551 stamp. I sure hope it comes faster because if its another 18 months, I'm out of luck.. My employer threatened to fire me purely for the expired GC. My DL will expire middle of august. Thanks folks!

Hello folks, new here and lived in the US for most of my life.. I created a account at uscis and sent in all the required documents and $540 fee 18 months ago because the offices are closed due to covid. I have asked uscis why it is taking so long and was told GC "is pending and is within our current processing time." My employer has threatened to fire me.. My drivers license will expire soon and Ive read I need a non expired GC to renew it. If I don't have a drivers license I will lose my job.. Ive read on FB that I'm not the only one waiting over a year, some for over two years. What is going on here? Why is the renewal taking so long? Will I lose my license, and then my job? Thanks!
