  1. Hi, I will be entering LAX next month as a permanent resident (CR-1) status from the UK. I am slightly confused as to whether I am required to get a Californian driving license within 10 days of landing (I do hold a valid UK driving license). I have copied the requirements below from the CA DMV webite: If you become a California resident, you must get a California DL within 10 days. Residency is established by voting in a California election, paying resident tuition, filing for a homeowner’s property tax exemption, or any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents. As a permanent resident can i vote in the California election? There doesn't seem to be a clear consensus online regarding state elections. If I need to obtain a driving license within 10 days how is this even possible??! I need to wait for my green card and SSN which i believe is taking some people 3 months! Also I am aware that there are delays with getting behind the wheel test. Additionally, I can see the new requirement for the real ID. Could i just apply for a real ID straight away, or do i need to apply for DL and then convert to the real ID? Any advice would be much appreciated.
  2. I have finally been approved for a CR-1 Visa to settle as a permanent resident in CA, USA (current UK citizen). I will be looking to enter the USA next month and file an application to get a driving license. Has anyone had success with testing in a TESLA model Y? I have copied the requirements below taken from the California Drivers’ Handbook: Behind-the-Wheel Test Vehicle The vehicle you use for your behind-the-wheel test needs to be safe to drive, have valid registration, and be properly insured. You must bring proof of insurance. The vehicle must have: • Working driver’s side window, brake lights, horn, parking brake, and turn signals. • Safe tires. The tires must have at least 1/32-inch of uniformed tread depth. • Windshield that allows a full, clear, unblocked view for you and the person giving the test. • At least two rearview mirrors. One of them must be on the left side of your vehicle. • Working driver’s side and front passenger seat belts. You need to show that you know how to work the vehicle’s headlights, windshield wipers, defroster, emergency flashers, and parking brake.
  3. Hi, I recently got approved for my permanent resident card!! I am just wondering whether it is necessary for me to apply for a USA driving license? Or could I still just use my UK driving license? I am moving to California.
  4. We had a nightmare with the DS260 and supporting evidence during Covid because the police certificate had expired by the time they started processing our application . I would highly recommend to check your expiry date on your police report and whether your financial information is now over a year old. Our initial application was filed in June 2021, they eventually got back to us asking for additional information, which we added online. We finally got an interview date in May 2022. However when I flew back to the UK and tried to schedule the medical they had nothing before my scheduled interview date. I then had to wait for the initial interview date to pass and reschedule! Finally rescheduled to the 6th June and got approval. (Take any W2 and tax information for the current year, they asked me for this). it kind of worked out if I’m honest , hopefully I will be granted a 10 year green card with no conditions or extra cost . also my husband would refer to the timelines which were accurate. I can add a link if needed ?
  5. Hi hoping someone can shed some light! My husband is an American Citizen and I am British and we applied for the CR1 visa approximately 2 years ago. I had my final Embassy interview in the UK which was approved and the visa is valid for entry up until Nov 2022. I am reading that if i was to enter the USA before our 2 years of marriage it will be conditional (requiring additional paperwork after 2 years). However, i am wondering if it is possible to enter the USA after my 2 year wedding anniversary (August 2022) and be grated permanent resident status without the conditions??
  6. Hi, I will be entering the USA in Sept after finally getting approved in the UK for the CR1 visa. I have booked a couple of international holidays with my husband without realizing that i may not receive my actual permanent resident card in time!! Is there any other forms i will need to complete? Or will the stamped visa suffice for re-entry back into the USA following a 10 day holiday?
