Called NVC and a very helpful gentleman said that since Embassy has already processed it and issued a visa, it's out of their hand now. I would need to call USCIS and ask them. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they'll say.

I see what you're saying. The thing to remember is that the K1 visa is what keeps the person "in status" between POE and marriage. I feel like we're ultimately saying the same thing here, the difference may just be a matter of semantics.

Right, I was answering with the assumption that they visa holder had already entered the US and should have specified that it would expire within 3 months of entry into the states. Thanks for clarifying.

Our paperwork got transferred during AOS too because our own service center was so far behind. I freaked out when it happened but it's really not a big deal. Don't worry 🙂

Something I discovered in talking to other Moroccan/American couples was that when there is a large age gap, there is quite a bit more scrutiny of the relationship because there is a pretty high rate of "green card wives" when the American woman is so much older than the Moroccan man. It's useful information to keep in mind when you're working through these issues. Proving that your family and your spouse have established some sort of relationship helps.

How to Withdraw K-1 Visa After Visa is On Hand? I don't want to get into too much details but we're not longer engaged.

I did some search on the internet but can't find the definitive answer yet. Some say send a letter to the embassy, some say to NVC, some say to USCIS.

The visa expires if you aren't married within 3 months and you can't get a refund, so is there some other reason you feel you NEED to notify authorities?

I'd say the spouse needs to sign it. That's what we did anyway. Mail isn't reliable in certain countries so I suggest using FedEx or some other dependable carrier that provides accurate tracking information. I also suggest having TWO signed copies of each document on hand just in case the first set of original forms get lost either in the mail or by the processing office.

Does anybody know if the DV-1 visa allows application for a SSN before the green card arrives? We have a receipt number but the wait could be 120 days so we'd like to attempt to get other things taken care of in the meantime if possible like driver permit, etc. Are we dead in the water during the wait?

9 years later, we're finally getting around to filing N-400 TODAY, 3/17/18. We filed online, uploaded supporting documents, and paid directly on the USCIS site (how cool is that!?). Our local CIS office is Syracuse, NY and it looks like nobody in our immediate area has filed for N-400 since last year unless folks just haven't updated their timelines. It looks like the pattern has been that the process takes 10 months from start to finish on average, is that still accurate or have major changes occurred in the last year affecting timelines?

I'm a bit rusty so I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong location. My brother-in-law was one of those randomly selected to be considered for the Diversity Visa. He submitted the DS-260 online so we are waiting on an interview date. I don't see that we have a timeline for DV like we have for the other visas, and that makes sense, but I'd really like to see if anybody has been contacted about an interview date thus far. It looks like interviews may somehow get posted on the KCC website. Does anybody have past experience in this where they could explain how that works?

Also, if you're in the same boat (selected for DV lottery Morocco), please comment here and update as you go? We used to do this for other visa types to help us share experiences.
