  1. I would think most people (including consulate officers) would think in 2022 that rental income count as much as any regular job's income. There is really no job security in America anymore, a regular job is not going to be more secured than rental income.
  2. That is only logical that anyone looking at the letter will ask. It would seem that one side doesn't know what he/she was signing if the pronounce is "I" and two people signed it. Each of the couple can write a separate latter. It could be written in another language with a certified translation.
  3. This is absolutely true. We missed the deadline to get SSN immediately on entry and have to wait 12 months for the EAD and SSN. We had to file a tax extension to get around of having get a TIN and the spouse could not open or get name added to bank accounts.
  4. If you are on F1, you need to follow the work limitation set by F1. Don't assume that if a school hiring department doesn't know the rules, you can use that as an excuse. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/f-1-students-work-violations.html
  5. I want to update on our situation. We waited a full three weeks after the EAD. Went to the SSA office (bring your EAD card, passport, and patience since the wait could be 2-3 hours at the office). Some office need appointments, our did not. Check their web site. The SSA said the info didn't get transmitted to them so they put in a new application. SSN card arrived in the mail less than one week after that. We saw people getting into arguments with the security guards at the SSA office, don't do that. Just have some patience, they are short of staffs.
  6. That is more than super fast. That is lightning speed. We applied last July and just got our EAD.
  7. Yeah, try to go through the department head office before contacting your Congressman or Senator. You want to save contacts to Congress when all else failed. You should feel free to write your local congress people on issues that interest you and the district/state but to get going on a process, it's better to work through the department first.
  8. You should give it a full two weeks after the arrival of the EAD. People are reporting anywhere from 1 week to over a months for getting SSN. If you are going to the SS office, bring the EAD and passport. SS office might have a long wait, be prepared to spend at least 2-3 hours there so get there plenty of time before closing. We saw people at the SS office getting frustrated after waiting for 30 minutes so be prepared. Everyone is trying to do their jobs, there is no need for frustration. You might need to fill out the SS5 application. They'll have the form there but you should make sure you have all the information needed for that form.
  9. There is a time-limit on filing amended tax return. It's three years after the original deadline. So April 15th, 2025 for 2021's returns. Hopefully that enough time to get your wife's SSN if you do need to file an amended return but getting an ITIN should complete the tax return.
