  1. Adding my experience with the temporary passport process: Just got my original passport reactivated in Toronto (Victoria St offices). They insisted on keeping my passport for a day and a half - said it can take up to 24 hours for the reactivation to be fully processed and they wanted to make sure it worked before returning for me. I dropped it off Tuesday afternoon and picked it up Thursday morning. Something to keep in mind! Thanks again @ToddD for this post - it was so helpful!
  2. Thanks for the update @Juliantwin! That's helpful to know. Congrats on being through the process.
  3. @Juliantwin - any updates on your case? I'm still in AP and am also trying to get a sense of how fast the montreal embassy is moving.
  4. @Lookingforhelp05 - check out the link that I included above to ToddD's post about this. He put a lot of effort into writing out the process, so there's no point in me repeating it. I will add that I filled out this form AND the regular passport renewal form. It took me under 2 hours to apply at the passport office on Victoria St in Toronto. 5 minutes to pick it up the next day. I successfully traveled to the US on the new temporary passport, but was taken in for secondary questioning at Pearson before being allowed to cross. Be prepared to speak about why you have a brand new passport, why you're going to the US, and when you're returning to Canada. I was going to a family wedding and had to show the invitation and my return flight. Since then, I've also traveled to Europe on this passport with no issues. Hope that helps!
  5. Yeah, so I requested a criminal record check for personal use (formerly privacy act request), but there are 3 subtypes and I received the wrong version. The correct one to request is "other (provide details)" and then you need to specify "RCMP National Repository entire holdings” in the comments section when requesting. It will say "other (provide details)" on the form you receive. The one I originally received that was wrong is the other subtype: "for active criminal record". If you don't specify which subtype in the request then the rcmp seems to revert to this option. In my case the NVC approved this form even though it was wrong, which I only found out at the interview. Here's a good post with more detailed explanation and examples:
  6. Hey! I'm in a slightly different situation, but also waiting on administrative processing at the MTL embassy right now (did my CR1 visa interview on Aug 3rd and had to resubmit my rcmp background check that was wrong the first time. UGH.). From what I gathered from my interviewing officer, this site, and my lawyer is that it can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks to have them process whatever we send in, no matter what it is. 6 weeks is an often quoted time. So, it sounds like you're still in typical wait time range unfortunately. But it's encouraging to see movement on your file on the 16th, hopefully it comes soon for you! I also needed to travel abroad while I've been waiting and didn't want to ask for my passport back. So, I got a temporary duplicate passport as explained in this post: It was a surprisingly easy and quick process for me at the downtown Toronto passport office. Might be worth it if you have the money to throw at the problem. (I will note, mine temp passport doesn't have a white cover like in the photo!) Good luck - I hope you make your travel plans and clear this whole messy process soon!
  7. Long time lurker here, excited to share that I got my IL today! 🎉 DQ: April 28 IL: June 15 Interview: August 3 Very grateful for this thread and the spreadsheet, it's really been keeping me sane (as much as possible) through this strange process!
