  1. I have seen on multiple posts that all documents sent to NVC must be certified by the issuing authority … now I am from kerala and the birth certificate is issued by the marriage registrar and birth certificate is issued form the panchayath … now as far as I know the officers don’t have to authority to certify anything… what does “certified copy” means ? In India Notaries has more power because they are all lawers …. So do I just need to get it notarized??

    Hi,

I have gone through this process and my interview was on May 13th and i got the CR1 visa from chennai embassy.

You should send the original or cerified copies to NVC not notorised copies. All the document except PCC's will be returned to you at the time of interview.

Now regarding the certified copies : I too had the register marriaged as per special marriage act. one original marriage certificate was given to us at the time of marriage. now you can pay Rs500/- and request for another copy of the marriage ceritificate from the same office ( registrar office) this will be the excat replica of the original one and will be in the same stamp paper. I got it. this one is called the certified copy , since it is issued on a later date from the date on the original marriage certificate. Please note that this is not the attested photocopy of the original one. you just give a request and you will get it.

Then the birth certificate, original one we already have, now just give a request to the panchayath to give you one more copy of the birth certificate, this they will give in the exact replica of the original one, only the issuing date will be different. this is the certified copy, and not the attessted photocopy of the original BC.

Additional excat replica copies of the MC and BC issued on a later date from the original ones are the certified copies , it will contain the signature and seal of the issuing authority and not the sign and seal of the notary.

notorised copies are not accepted at NVC.

i think this is depends on city to city.

    I am from Kerala

  3. Hi all,

I can enter from JFK in NYC or Dulles in DC or Newark in NJ. I'm trying to book ar flight considering factors like length of time to process into US (customs & visa) level of harrasment, airport delays, etc.

Any advice or thoughts on which airport POE is best is appreciated. Thanks

  4. Anybody got CR1 this month, what is the next step after getting the visa for removing the conditional status.

It say we have to jointly file for removing the condition within 90 days before the 2nd anniversary, does it mean the 2nd anniversary of gettind the CR1( i mean 2 years after the CR1 visa date) or does it mean our 2nd wedding anniversary

  5. Congratulations!!!

I have a same question as Dunhill has, did you sent your original docs to NVC or submited to VFS ?

I submitted the originals to NVC, got back all the originals after interview

  6. Lot many thanks to God almighty . myself and my daughter got Visa (CR1 and CR2).

My interview was on may 13th in chennai.

Process: Medicals: reprted to lister lab at 9 am, had blood test and X-ray , talked to Dr.sanjan john over phone and booked the appointment for medical checkup at 4.30pm, collected the reports at 4pm and went to chetpet to meet Dr. sanjan john, gave him my medical history and childs immunisation records(her vaccinations were uptodate, for me he gave one shot of DTab , he said that is not available in India)

May 13th 8 am was my interview time. reached there at 8am gave the interview letter , within 15 minutes i was called to counter 11 for document verification, since i had submitted all the documents to NVC , they just verified it, asked for latest 2007 tax receipt (1040 since my husband is self employed) and some marriage photos(which was not submitted to NVC), asked me to sign the DS230 part II. then gave a pink slip with token number. After one hour I was called to the same counter for taking the finger prints ( all 10 fingers). Again after half an hour I was called to counter 10 for the interview. It was a lady officer she asked me to take the finger print (this is just left index finger)

    1)when was our marriage?

2)when did I meet my husband for the first time?

3)Which place i intend to go to US?

    4) is that the place where my hus in living now?

    5) is he living alone there?

6)whether i have seen his daughter?

7)have I seen pictures of his place?

    8)Whether i am working here?

    9) on which date am i planning to go to US?

Then she showed our wedding photos to my daugher and asked her to name the persons in the photos and where they live.

Then she said " you have submitted all the document we require and congratulations , yourself and child are granted visa". you will get your passport with visa within 3-4 days. we were out of the embassy by around 10.45am.

    Thank you Jesus.

  8. Hello,

My husband and I are trying to figure out the best way to transfer/take our money from India to the US. We are not really comfortable with carrying cash or even traveler's checks, and unfortunately, the www.XE.com does not do transfers on rupees to dollars.

What experiences can anyone share with us about taking over $10,000 out of India to the US? Oh yes, another glitch, my bank account in the US is not active anymore, so I can't transfer money directly... :(

    Thanks,

    C

hey! you can ask your bank (any bank) to make a SWIFT transfer of fund from India to US.

  9. On the interview letter; its states in document status for Financial evidence - yes/document complete/reviewed, Does this mean to submit orginals at interview? ..because for police certificates i had submited notorised docs and the status is same as above for which i have to carry orginals any way to consulate. For the ones i had submitted orginals ex: birth certificate - the status is 'Orginal document received'. Pls clarify if anybody as any idea. THX.

    Dunhill ,

In my interview letter also it is given

    Financial evidence : yes/document complete/reviewed,

    DS230 part I : yes/ document complete/reviewed

so i think it is not necessary to submit these at interview.

  10. do you have to have the original letter to get into the embassy? I thought that we could just fax the letter to our spous in India.

apart from my husband , our attorney has also received the interview letters, since our attorney is the agent on behalf of me, I think NVC will send the original interview letter to him ? not sure . if it is so he will mail the letter to me by DHL.

    hope everything will be fine.

  11. Hi june007,

I have already responded to some of your questions via PM, but I can tell you that you can go to the Chennai Consulate website and download the medical cover sheet from the packet 4 docs. Take that and several pictures to your appointment with Dr. Sanjan John and unless you have any medical problems, you should not worry about doing the medical more than a few days before the interview. We gave ourselves one extra day in between just in case there were any problems finding the doctor or he needed extra tests run. Please go to your local hospital and get your needed vaccinations/proof of your immunizations to save yourself as much time and money as possible while in Chennai.

As far as your interview letter from Chennai, since your process is a little different from ours, I don't know what to tell you. Ask your husband if the interview letter he received is yellow - that is the color of the interview letters to get into the consulate. Even if it is not, you can have him DHL you the letter so that you have a hard copy of something to take with you in case the mail is too slow here in India. RELAX!!

Good luck, you are almost there!

hi carolyn, I saw the following items in the website of chennai embassy for Packet 4

    - Packet 4 Forms -

    • Application-DS 230

    • Important Information for IV Applicants

    • Photo Instructions & Poverty Guidelines

    • Domicile for Immigrant Visa Sponsors

    • Med Exam Cov. Let.

    • VFS Office Addresses

    • Social Security Information

I suppose out of the above items i have to take only the med Exam cov.let. what about social security information sheet. sorry for asking so many questions. infact i am so tensed , the interview date is so near.

  15. Hi Neethope!

We just did the Medical in Chennai with Dr. Sanjan John. Please try to find a way to get records for your shots from a Doctor if at all possible - giving shots seems to be a nice little business (expensive!) for him at least. There is a shot that he gives that is apparently not available in India (td) and varicella that cost Ritesh around 3,000 rupees cash - be ready for that. If you do not have records of any kind, it could cost you quite a bundle! (Maybe 9,000!?)

The records are required for the Medical right before the interview and I would recommend keeping a copy for your own records as well.

I just saw this thread. and found that you did the medicals in chennai with Dr. sajan john. I am also planning to so the medicals with him

Is it enough if we take the vaccination from any hospital in kerala, india.

  17. I too got my interview letter!

    congrats :star:

what are the instructions given in the interview letter. there is a confusion whether we have to once again submit the original civil doucment at VFS even though we have submitted to NVC. Does the interview letter says anything about that. is the interview letter sent from NVC or from the chennai consulate. Does it says anything about any fee to be paid by us.My case was completed on April 8th. anitcipating an interview by june last week.

  18. First off, we would like to thank everyone on this site for all of your help, wisdom, cheerleading and support!

We got back into Bangalore around 9 tonight and are soooo tired right now that we are going to crash out after a long couple of days of travel, medical check-ups and the visa interview. I'm sorry I don't have the energy to give a full report, especially for people who are interviewing tomorrow. :( (GOOD LUCK AMANRAM AND KSHATRIYA!!!!) Just make sure you have your demand drafts in the correct amount as necessary, all the docs that are requested, and be confident! :)

It was a great and tiring day, and we are sooo happy to start prepping for the next phase of our journey together, what my Dad likes to call: "Get a job, nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah - get a jobbbbb" :)

congrats and wish you a very happy life ahead!

  19. Hi MGK,

Did you receive interview letter from indian consulate? Is it asking to submit the 'un-submitted' orginals to be submitted to VFS and pay any fee? I have so far not received any communication from consulate; but the NVC letter sent to petioner in US says to bring all un-submitted documents for interview and does not talk about VFS or paying any fees? could any one clarify??

    Thanks!!

we have paid the IV fee of $400 at NVC , so should we have to pay any fees on the interview day.
