My wife had her interview in Louisville, KY on November 22 and got her approval letter. With Christmas & New Year's approaching, will there be a delay on scheduling her oath ceremony?

I understand they only hold the ceremonies in Louisville and I guess they wait until they have a certain number before they schedule a ceremony.

Any thoughts?

Maybe someone can tell you more about Louisville, but I know they are doing Oath's in Seattle over the holidays. I interviewed on Nov 21 and my Oath Ceremony is on Dec. 27. They seem to be working as usual over the holidays.

US CITIZEN!!!!!!! Italo became a US Citizen today! Can someone please update us??? Our ceremony was in Oakland Park Florida where 172 people from 41 countries all became Citizens!!! The journey is now over!!! We are thankful to God for this great blessing!!!

...actually I just checked and the Interview Checklist (N-650) I received with my interview appointment notice #3. A. says Birth Certificate OR your spouse's valid U.S. Passport.

You should be just fine!

I just had my Citizenship interview last week, and I was only asked for my GreenCard and Driver's License... nothing about my husband. The officer looked at some of the tax, banking, utility bills, etc. that I brought for proof of ongoing relationship (I was applying after 3 years based on marriage). She didn't ask for anything else, but I think every interview is different depending on who is conducting it. If you have his passport, it shows his place of birth - if it shows he was born in the USA, that should be enough. (I had the original passport and a copy in case they wanted to keep a copy.) If you have a copy of his birth certificate, (maybe from a previous application/petition?) I would bring it along, too.

I guess First to become a citizen from September filers.............took me 3 months and exact 3yrs from AOS date to Naturalise , what a relief, now going to celebrate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Interview in Seattle this morning 8:10am… APPROVED! Yippee!!! Now just a wait until after December 9, for my three anniversary date to pass and then an Oath …light is at the end of the tunnel.

My husband and I arrived about 30 minutes before the scheduled appointment (in spite of terrible morning rush traffic), checked in and were directed to the second floor waiting room. There were was a full waiting room, but I was called right on time.

Officer was a very nice, but business like woman. She made a light hearted comment on the huge stack of paperwork I was carrying, but it was I just said “when you’re not sure what will be needed, you bring everything” and she chuckled.

She asked to see my GreenCard and Driver’s License, and then had me stand, raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. She then took out the two photo’s I had submitted and had me sign them. She very quickly reviewed the items on my submitted N-400 and added in additional dates that I had been out of the US since submitting the form. She did the quick calculation and said I was still way under the maximum number of days, and quickly moved on. I had listed both my natural children (not in the US) and my husband’s two children (living in the States), so she clarified that the two children in the US were my step-children and then noted that on the form. She then reviewed the notes/changes she had made on the form and asked me to sign that everything was now correct.

She tested me for English reading and writing (even though it is the only language I know) and started asking my questions.. Where is the Statue of Liberty? What are two National holidays? What movement was for racial equality?, Who was the 1st President of the US?, Who is the Governor of WA State? What is a one thing required of a Citizen? Answered all correctly, so that was it!!!

She then asked about all the paperwork I had brought with me. “What do you want to show me?”, I wasn’t sure what she really wanted so I asked her what SHE wanted to see, LOL. My 1st folder was bulging with papers, but everything was in clearly labeled sections and copies all clipped to the originals. She just asked to see the folder and went through a lot of it (but did not take any of the copies). She noted that it was great not to have to pull everything apart to review things. I am further convinced that it really pays to take the time to be super organized …you can never be “too” prepared!

She then said “I have good news and bad news…” I was pretty sure the bad news was that I couldn’t do same day Oath, because the interview was a bit too early, but the phrase “bad news” in this situation did make me a bit nervous. She then said the good news was that I PASSED!, and the bad was she couldn’t approved for another few days and the Oath would be scheduled for later in December. She asked if I had travel plans – I said I didn’t have anything specifically booked at this time, but was hoping to visit my Mom over the holidays. She then gave a printed sheet with information about getting an expedited passport.

That was it! whole interview about 20 minutes…. Back to the waiting room to gather my dear husband, who looked as anxious as a first time father in a maternity hospital waiting room LOL As soon as I smiled at him he knew… and looked very relieved and happy.

I am hopeful that my Oath will be later in December, but I will try not to get my hopes up…I have seen many on these forums that end up waiting fairly long periods of time for their Oath after the interview. I’m just very happy all that is done, and I’m on the last leg.

So very happy to hear this news, Sharky! I had my interview in Seattle this morning, so now the waiting for that notice starts for me

well today I woke up at 5am (unusual for me) to hear my phone tweet a text, unusual at 5.30. I didn't bother to check it and went bleary eyed to my laptop. When I opened my email I had to look twice:

On November 29, 2011, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

it seems that when you finally stop worrying, things happen!!!!

I know that I will receive a letter hopefully in the next day or so telling me the actual DATE of the ceremony, and I can only hope this is still before January 10th.

Congrats!!! I have just had my interview earlier this morning and I'm approved too!!! What a great feeling Now to wait a week or two to find out about an Oath Ceremony...

Thanks guys! I have tons of paper "evidence" and I have printed a few photos to take along as well. When I was doing my double check last night, I just couldn't recall ever seeing that anyone on these forums listed photos as something they took to the Citizenship interview. ...but in the end, it can't hurt to have some along just in case. I'm as ready as I'll ever be!! My husband is now urging me to get ready and get in the car because all my paperwork isn't worth a hoot if I miss the appointment LOL

Heading to my interview in the morning and I have done some searches here trying to find out if I need to take pictures to prove ongoing marriage relationship like I did for K3 interview and like I sent with my AOS supporting documents. I didn't send any with the N-400 and I have a huge and very inclusive stack of paper documentation I am taking with me tomorrow, but will I need to take photos too? Many thanks to anyone who can answer!

If you didn't record it, I don't believe there is any way to get that information now. But as Zen Den correctly points out, if it wasn't more than a day, you shouldn't have to report it.

I have no idea why they are not coordinated. Your point does make a lot of sense....but then, US immigration policies appear to make no sense a lot of the time. Or at the very least they do seem to follow any grand plan or logic.

Let us know what happens with your infopass boilermaker, I do really feel that it's better than calling the 1 800 number but at the same time, I can't help feeling that the people behind the desk aren't telling us everything. I mean all the nice IO did with my case was look on the computer next to her, "with the officer" status hardly seems relevant now? I guess it's a fine line about insisting to know what is happening and (dread to think) pissing them off to the point where they decide to put your file at the bottom of the pile.

At the end of the day, they have the power and we have to just sit here and hope!

So sorry to hear you are still waiting, Sharky. ..everytime I see that you have posted something in the July Filers, I come and look because I am sure that you are posting about your oath appointment. Hang in there..we are all rooting for you (especially us other Seattle folks)

According to the "Estimates of the Legal Permanent Resident Population in 2010" report released by DHS recently, in 2010 there were 12.6 million Legal Permanent Residents living in the U.S., out of which 8.1 were eligible for naturalization (and presumably decided not to naturalize).

What possible reasons can people have for not naturalizing when they can? Also, does it affect how fast the things are going for those of us waiting to get a Family-Based Visa and a green card?

I have recently applied for Naturalization, but it was a very difficult decision for me. Even though I can have dual citizenship, the Oath for US Citizenship requires that I "absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen". I love the US and have no problem pledging my loyalty, but it was a very big deal for me to decide that I could completely renounce the equally good country that was my home for over 50 years. I had a Citizenship that I was very happy with and I had legal residency here that I didn't forsee any problem with renewing every 10 years, but it seemed to matter a great deal to my husband, so I began the moral deliberation about being able to take the Oath.

I am sure there may be many other reasons people have for not Naturalizing(including the high cost of filing the N-400), but I have read of many, many other people here on VJ that had the same difficulty with the Oath that I did.

Yes, Sharky, I too wish I had read somewhere here to wait at least a couple weeks after the 90 day window started. Seems like all the other steps in this process went painfully slow and now this has gone too fast! I don't think there is much chance of having a US passport for Christmas, but it may be likely I will still have my Green Card, so that will get me home to see my fam Please keep us posted about your Oath ceremony!

I'm not clear on when they take your Green Card....at your interview? or at your Oath Ceremony? or at your interview if you have a same day Oath? I am scheduled for my interview on Nov 29 (which) is about 10 days before my 3 year GC anniversary, so I am trying to figure out all the timing, so I can figure if I will have a GC or a Passport (or be between the two!) to leave the country to go and visit my family sometime over the Christmas/New Year holidays.

I'm adding my interview date...although I'm disappointed that it is before my 3 year anniversary date, so no chance of same day oath. The timing is particularly bad as I hoped to visit my family over Christmas, but it is likely I will be between Green Card and Passport :-( It's the hardest part of this whole thing...missing my mom, my kids and my grandkids. We never expected this process to move so fast (it went much slower for previous applications), so we are talking about requesting a new interview date in order to move everything out into the New Year.
