Unusual, yes - my case was to be part of a church program that ran for 9 months with optional time extra to volunteer for their summer camps. I had heard it was possible to ask for an additional 6 months so that's what I did. When taken to the room for questioning I was pressed quite harshly to begin with, but after some time they were more accommodating and asked for proof I had paid and was going to attend it like I said I would, and called the church to confirm. After checking with their supervisor they gave me until next year exactly to leave. I doubt that they would have lied about that? They would have just refused me or told me I could only be there for 6 months if that wasn't possible. I dont think I94 would have been right for my situation as my circumstances wouldn't have changed, I was always intending for 9 months to a year. Anyway this is just afterthought, my question here has been answered already

Thank-you! This directly answered my question. Judging by the surprise from you guys is it normally single entry? The purpose of the visit was a 9 month long religious/church program I was part of. The extra time before and after was to volunteer at church camps. Either way I disclosed all of this in detail at the border, and ultimately they were content to allow me the year. It will become over a year since I last visited, so I don't imagine they would be suspicious of me coming back for two short visits. At any rate I do work now and I'd be taking time off with permission from my work. I'll bring some proof of employment just in case. Cheers

Hi all, Firstly I should thank you all for being helpful in the past - my year long trip last year was successful and I was successfully able to enter and leave the US on my B2 visa. TLDR is this - is the B2 visa inside my passport used up from that one trip, or can it be used again for more in the future, especially for short trips that would otherwise fit within the ESTA? (Note that I'm from Australia, a visa waiver country). Background/more info: Applied for, attended interview, and received B1/B2 visa in passport in May 2022. Expires in 2027 Entered the USA on a B2 visa 20 July 2022 - after being taken to the room and questioned I was admitted until 20 July 2023 (stamped in passport) Left USA on 17 July 2023 before the end date Kept to the terms of the visa (did not work, study or overstay) Considering (but not committed) to visiting in early September - invited to a wedding of a friend for a week and a few days And again in late October to visit other friends for exactly 2 weeks Cheers

When going for my B1/B2 interview I saw that Sydney was shut completely and Melbourne had wait times extending into next year. I got one sooner by booking mine at Perth. Mind you I did so while the state was fully locked down with the hope it would be open by the time of my interview (which it was), but it might still net you a closer interview than at Melbourne if you are willing to pay to fly across the country for it.

Last time I update this - here's something even crazier Just got my passport back in the post. Today. Not even a whole week went by, and I got it back! Is that normal? I was expecting to wait up to 3 or 4 weeks but they processed it in 3 days time and posted it back to me. Did I just get really lucky? Gotta say for my first time going through this process I had a great experience, reading most of the posts here you would think you would have to go through hell and back but it was very straightforward and efficient for me

As you have asked I am reporting back after the interview My first time doing this so I was very happy with the experience at the Perth consulate. Once past security, there were two booths that were active for visa services, one called up people just to take the passport and DS160 front page and the return postage satchel and scanned fingerprints, then you sat back down and got called by another booth later which then the CO there asked your reasons for applying for the visa and all that. Aside from waiting it was all very quick. Only really asked that I wasn't being going to be paid or employed, or take any course for credit, then asked how I intended to pay, which I said I had savings and would be staying with friends and would have some financial help as well. I couldn't hear him that well through the muffled glass, but seemed to say after that he should approve my visa and expect it to be returned when done (which I'm guessing is 3 weeks to a month typically) I see a lot of other posts asking you to prove ties to home country but it did not get asked at all. In fact I got an email the day before telling me I had to now bring a letter explaining my purpose and itinerary. I very hurriedly wrote this that night, but at the interview it was never required of me. I am pretty hopeful that I should get the visa but I am guessing you all know that's never for certain, even if they suggest it should be approved at the interview which was the impression I got. I am now preparing a proper full itinerary, and will look at booking flights (departure and return) as soon as the visa comes back (assuming it does), as I am sure the CBP personnel at whichever airport I arrive at (might be Seattle-Tacoma Intl Airport) will probably want something a lot more substantial than the consulate did, especially if I would be asking for an extension to the usual maximum of 6 months. As usual if anyone does see any problems or any naïveté on my part please give me any advice you all might have! Would be greatly appreciated as it is the first time I am ever doing something like this.
