  1. I just got married and want all the tips and advice on what to do next. Fiance came on a K1. We got married within 90days and applied for her Social Security Number. Waiting for that and marriage license. Applying for her I-485 next. What tips and advice do you have?!
  2. @rikko they put us in AP because I develop govt technology. I had to hire a lawyer to file a mandamus suit to get an answer. Everytime we emailed the consulate, they just gave us a automated email saying they don’t know how long it’ll take
  3. @rikko We waited 10 months altogether and didn't hear anything from the embassy or AP offices in WA. So after extensive research, we decided to go with a lawyer and file a Mandamus suit. We chose: John Ting, Ting Law Group, (removed) They charged us $4000 to file. They took care of everything and you are able to make monthly payments. As soon as we filed, it only took a few days to get a response and my fiance got approved! The whole process with the lawyers took about 3 weeks total. My fiance has her k1 visa now and we are planning on her coming through LAX. (removed)
  4. Thank you for your quick response. And, yes you are right • We have been waiting 🙄 • I actually did contact both my state rep, and my district rep. - The district rep sent an email and got the same response we did, " Please wait and be patient..." • And I think the last one would probably cause them to deny it at this point since the case is in the hands of DOS. It seems like most cases have waited around 9 months for AP. I was hoping to hear better news
  5. Hello all! I was wondering if anyone is in AP or Administrative processing at the moment? Me and my fiance applied for a K1 visa a while ago. After her interview in Poland in 12/2022, they have put her case into AP. It has been around 5 months now and still waiting. Has anyone gone through AP recently? How long has it taken you? Any help or advice you can give please? Thanks!
  6. @Wuozopo Ohhhh EXCELLENT! Thank you so much for this. I'm going to send this over to my fiancé. She is not worried about her English, but has expressed worry about not having everything or fumbling the interview itself. This should put her at ease. I think we have way over prepared but better that, right!?
  7. I have another question... What supporting docs should I give to my fiance for her interview? She is Russian and going to Poland for her interview. I have read that different consulates look for different docs. I was planning to give her: - Letter from employer - 3 years of Tax Return Transcripts - Bank statements for monthly balance for the last 12 months.
  8. @PaulaCJohnny Sorry for the misunderstanding and THANKS for your help.
  9. @Wuozopo. Thanks for this explanation! That is exactly what I was wondering. Many people around me have told me the opposite, that I can file her as a dependent. I believe that like you said, YES the USCIS makes it clear, she is absolutely dependent on me upon arrival and for a while before she can work. She is most unhappy about that because she values her independence and work. (One reason I love her). It looks like processing times are around 14-16 months for work authorization(am i seeing that wrong?). That will drive her crazy! I don't dare even tell her ATM haha. But as an actual tax "dependent", NO. So filing, you recommend file MFJ, and that would help me out a bit in deductions? I read somewhere that we should get married ASAP and she should apply for her SSN immediately, but you are saying "don't worry about actual marriage or the last name. Just apply ASAP. Get the number and change the name later". Thanks for your help
  10. @PaulaCJohnny Your link is just frequently ask questions. Nothing to do with supporting my spouse it dealing with those taxes while she can’t work. Asking on here would be “Informing myself better”. Please don’t be short and rude if you don’t want to help.
  11. Hi! I was wondering, my fiancé is coming here soon on a K1 visa. After we get married, can I claim her as a dependent? How should I file? thanks
  12. From what I was told/researched there is a way higher approval rate in the K1. When I applied it took 11 months. I have a friend who went the spousal and it took them 2 years. Talk to a professional and see what one is best for you. Either way apply asap.
  13. You do not pay for the service to get approved. You can do the process by yourself but something this big, I was happy to pay for a online course on how to put together an application. I got approved! Well worth it for us
  14. I have been told that you do not want to mention any money being transferred to each other. They might ask you in the end interview, and it’s a red flag if you guys have. Pics, receipts of you guys being in the same place, trip itineraries are good proof. I would file for the K1 visa IMMEDIATELY! It took us 11 months to get the first part(NOA1) to pass. They haven’t asked anything about my finances yet. In that time I have had 2 jobs, and am in between jobs now. I would recommend using the course I did to help file called [link removed]. You pay for the online course and he prepares you for the application process. I did it and we passed! good luck
