  1. Hi everybody, I am a little puzzled about a notification I received today. The letter says that due to pending I751, my husband needs to come with me to the interview. Is this normal when processing an N400 with a pending I751? Do you think the reason my I751 has been pending since July of 06 is because USCIS has some doubts about my marriage? I thought our case was pretty straight forward. Any comments will be appreciated.Thanks.

Can you please give us an overview of your interview experience? What were the questions they asked? How long did it take? Did they give you a hard time?

I opened a new thread with my interview experience

  2. I had my naturalization interview today. Everything went very well. My husband had to be there with me because my 1751 is still pending. The officer just asked some general questions on my application to make sure everything was still current. She asked to see some proof of joint resindency and of our life together. Then she asked 3 / 4 questions about our relationship and then we moved onto the test. I was asked 6 questions, I had read one of them and then I had to write a sentence.

She is recommending the approval and said that there is one more security check that needs to be done before she can approve my case. She said that I should get a letter in the mail in a couple of weeks and that the oath ceremony will probably be within 3 months.

When I asked about the security check she said that it was local and that it should only take a couple of days and it should not delay anything.

Hopefully everything will continue to go as good as it has so far.

    Congratulations

My I-751 is also pending. Did your interview letter say that your husband had to come with you, or did they send a separate letter about the pending I-751?

They sent a separate note of action requesting that he be there as well.

  3. It is not your computer. I just noticed that my post was doubled as well. I don't know how to delete the other one.

I brought pretty much what was mentioned in the list sent with the interview notification. I had copies of our tax returns for the last 3 years, copies of 2 bank statements (one from about 5 years ago and another one from 1 month ago showing that we had commingled our assets from the beginning of marriage), copies of benefiary information for retirement plans, copies of car and health insurance, and copy of deed in our house.

I only remember 4 of the 6 questions asked: Colors of the stripes in the flag, Where is the white house located, when was the constitution writen, what is the capital of Oh.

  4. What are the color of the stripes in the flag

    The capital of OH

    When was the constitution writen

Where is the White House located

    and 2 more I don't remember.

She also asked when and how we met. How was our wedding day? Was the proposal nice? What have we done since getting married.

  7. I just want to update my case. I had my N400 interview this morning and everything went OK. The officer said I should hear from them in 2 weeks and the Oath ceremony will be within 3 months. She said they need to do a local security check and since it is local it should take only a couple of days.

  8. No, I never got my 10 year green card. I just came back from the Interview and everything went good. Both my husband and I had to attend because my I751 is still pending. It took a total of 20 minutes and the office said that I should get a letter in the mail in a couple of weeks and that the oath will probably be scheduled within 3 months.

  10. Thanks! That is what I thought but I wanted to be sure. I remember studying some of these things when I took an elective class in College. I know the majority of the answers but if they want the exact "canned" answer (same order, full names, etc) then I better study.

They don't necessarily always insist on exactly the canned answer. Different adjudicators will give different amounts of leeway, and they're supposed to be reasonable. There may be various ways to pass the test, but my point is that if you can quickly provide them with exactly the answer that their study guide provides, you'll easily pass the test with no problem at all.

The red, white and blue one is one that the instructor said you should know in the correct order. It doesn't seem like the order ought to matter, and maybe it doesn't. It seems like you should be able to pass that question if you answer the right colors in a different order. But I know that, if you ask 100 natural-born US Citizens who went to grade school in the US, "What are the colors of the US flag?", you're likely to get pretty close to 100 answers of "red white and blue", and not a single answer of "blue, white and red". The "red, white, and blue" order is ingrained into our national psyche for some reason.

Thanks for the feedback. You know what is funny? When I first thought of that answer the first thing that comes to my mind is Red, White, and Blue. It must be ingrained in most people's mind. thanks again.

  11. I started going through all the questions that are in the booklet given at the biometrics appt and I seem to know a lot of the answers already but my question is the following:

During the test, do they ask you the questions exactly as they are phrased in the booklet or do they ask from either the questions or explanations given after every answer? For Example:

What are the colors of the American Flag? Answer: Red, White, and Blue.

The next paragraph then goes to explain when flag day is celebrated, the meaning of the colors, and any other trivia about this particular question. Do they ask anything from the explanation area as well?

I don't want to try to remember facts that will not be relevant to interview test.

For those of you that have the handout, you know what I am referring to.

    Thanks,

Congrats on your interview! I wish I had one too considering I filed in july...

I now you are probably frustrated when you see something like this and believe me when I tell you that I know that feeling because it really upsets me when I see people getting their I751 approved within 4 - 6 months and mine has been pending since July of 2006.

Hopefully you will get your interview soon!!

  12. Lucy went to a citizenship class, and I (the USC) actually attended the last class session, as they were reviewing. The instructor has gotten feedback from hundreds of students who've been through the process, so I'm confident she knows how it works.

Basically, if your goal is to pass as quickly and easily as possible, you won't go wrong by concentrating your effort on memorizing the exact answers to the 100 questions, and studying nothing else. For the "what colors are on the flag" question, know "Red, White, and Blue". And be sure and say them in that order, not "Blue, White, and Red".

If your goal is to become a well educated good citizen, then take the opportunity to learn the extra background material. It may also help you remember the reason why the canned answer is correct, and thus help you remember the right answer when it comes time.

Some of the canned answers are arguably wrong. For example the judicial branch of the federal government is not just the supreme court, but it's the entire federal court system. But the canned answer is "the supreme court", so know it and say it when asked. Another example is that the most important right of a citizen could be argued to be something other than the right to vote, but the canned answer is "the right to vote", so know that answer and say it when asked.

Thanks! That is what I thought but I wanted to be sure. I remember studying some of these things when I took an elective class in College. I know the majority of the answers but if they want the exact "canned" answer (same order, full names, etc) then I better study.

  14. my local office is salt lake city.

I did move not too long ago to salt lake city.

I applied for I-751 in OK city though with is still pending.

My online status for N-400 is still not available.

My online status hasn't changed. What is your local office Oklahoma City or Salt Lake City?

Can you add a timeline of your application in your signature so tha we know were you are at in the app process? By the way, my I-751 is still pending. It has been pending since July 06. It will probably be adjudicated during my N400 interview.

    Thanks,

    COngrates Richie!

My Local office is also Salt lake city.

    But I applied December 07.

So I guess I should be watching out for mine anytime from next month.

    Did ur online status change?

    Thank You...

I wasn't expecting to received it sooner. I'm sure you'll received yours soon. My local office is Salt Lake City.

  15. RICHIE:

It seems like they are moving along for you as well. What was the waiting time they gave you in your NOA? I Can't remember if you posted that. Mine is 180 days but as you know interview will be in less than a month. I better start studying! One more question: You mentioned that your online status didn't change with your interview date but did it change after the fingerprints were taken? Mine still reads 12.04, which I guess is when the fingerprint appt was sent.

    CONGRATULATIONS.

I am still waiting for mine. I really lost all hope of getting the removal of condition before my Citizenship interview. As you know, I applied in July 06. 2006. Oh well, I hope that it will be approved along with my N400.

Now all you have to do is wait for your N400 interview. Again, Congrats!

  17. It seems like the processing date of May 19th could be just a standard time for all processing centers because I selected some randon local offices and the processing time was the same so I don't think it is very accurate. Here is my info.

    1) Cleveland, OH

    2) May 19, 2007

    3) Priority date of Nov 8

    4) NOA stated notification of interview within 180 days but I already have my interview date setup. Time from Priority date to interview date is approximately 4 months.

  18. Mine has one too but I didn't have any problems checking the status in the USCIS site. Maybe yours was not entered in the system or is delayed. I am sure you will be able to check on it soon.

Congrats on your speedy interview letter...I see you have a lot of post, but what was your processing time listed on your letter? less than 90 days??

No, it was 180 days so you may hear from them even sooner! Who knows with USCIS.

  19. Anybody has a notification time of 90 days??? Please tell!!

I still have an I751 pending from Jan 2007...I applied for N400 in dec and I just got notice with a notification time of 90 days at VSC...Is this even possible????

That is great. I think it is possible. Mine says 180 days and my interview is already scheduled for March 03. I also have a pending I751 but it has been pending a lot longer than yours (since July 06).

  20. I think this number depends on what local district office youre in rather than what service center you apply to since it is ultimately the local uscis office where you live that will do your interview and give you oath letter.

No, all NOAs out of the same Service Center at the same time get the same timeframe.

But if you go to the USCIS website and look up processing times for your local office, it can be a lot less. For example, my husband's NOA also said 425 days also, but the website has 7 months for our local office. Although there was a note saying N-400 applications filed after June 1 "may" take 16-18 months. I'm desperately hoping it will be less and that they'll add additional oath ceremonies if necessary—they're normally done only 4 times a year in our city: the third Fridays in December, March, June, and September.

I believe Dipumiah was correct. Waiting time depends on the local office as interviews are conducted by them. I have similar timeframe out of NCS but my NOA says 180 days. My local office is Cleveland. My fingerprint appt was Dec 31st and my interview is scheduled for March 03. See signature for more detailed timeline. There are others out of NCS that have a lot longer waiting time than mine.

  21. I have actually been waiting for an approval since 07.07.06. See my signature for my timeline.

firebrand's wife added to list of NSC "losers": If you're not on the list but should be, please add yourself or post your data separately in the thread.

Important: If you are on the list and get approved, we would like to know it - please write a posting in this thread.

  22. You got the interview letter already? Waouuhh, that's great!

Yes, I know. I was really surprised when I saw what the notification was for. I told my husband: Oh, oh, we have a USCIS envelope here... I really thought that it maybe was related to my pending I751 or something but it was a great surprise when it was the interview letter...

    hi

just a thought because your i-751 is still pending so they might expedited your citizenship process so that you be intervied for both petetions.

That is what I am hoping for. I have read cases where this was the situation.

  23. Wow, I hope my application goes through that quickly! Good luck with the interview!

Just as an aside -- and just to rant a bit -- I think it's completely ridiculous how many times we have to provide our fingerprints during this process. I mean, fingerprints don't exactly change do they?! My husband looked into it (he read the Ombudsman's report, pretty damning stuff) and it turns out that the various organizations don't actually share fingerprint databases. How stunningly incompetent...

The reason for the so many fingerprints we need to provide is that they only stay in their database for like 1 1/2 years or 2 years (I can't remember) according to the person who took my last fingerprints. It seems to be a matter of storage space. But I agree, for example, I went for my second I751 fingerprinting in July 07 and I went for the Naturalization fingerprinting in Dec 07, only 6 months apart. They should link a person's fingerprint to the person's alien number so that it can be used for multiple applications if the fingerprints have not expired. That may mean one less step in the process.
