    Update:

Filed FOIA 12/7/21, they found our files in their cave. My wife and I had our interview today at Minneapolis field office. We applied on the 5-year rule. The whole thing took about 40 minutes. They didn't ask us a lot of questions probably because I uploaded all files starting from our tax account transcripts to my SIL registration. They only asked me 6 civics questions and didn't even go with me through the questions about communism, armed groups, nazi germany and other fun stuff. Gave me a paper that said that I was recommended for approval (same for my wife). Status in my account changed to "oath ceremony will be scheduled." Same-day oath was not available and they don't do it in Minneapolis. Everything looked like a formality as if everything had been decided even before the interview. Still want to sue these guys for 2 years of waiting. Unfortunately, not enough people for the class action as I had hoped.

Regarding FOIA: it is your right to do it and their responsibility to provide you with your A-file. When you file for naturalization you are filing for an immigration benefit. That's why they can delay it and do whatever they want because it is a benefit. You cant really make them do anything. FOIA is a different game though. Now it is your right to get your A-file, and having received it, USCIS can no longer pass the buck to NRC, NARA or whatever. In my opinion, if you haven't already filed FOIA and are still waiting -- just file it.

Congratulations - Couple of questions please, is your FOIA completed before you went for interview? Also did you upload all documents before the interview or at the time of applying?

Thanks for update . I have 2 questions . Is there an option of oath given on same day of interview for everyone or is it random pick for some ? If there a place to keep kids in their ( sitting area?) during interview/oath ? I guess NO …I have to travel 7 hours to field office

Based on my research you can ask for same day if you travelled more than 2 hours. I might be wrong too

Happy to inform my spouse completed her naturalization process today at the Newark field office..she had a kind officer  who went straight to business ..Standard civics questions, reading writing and the yes / no  questions..interview was done in 15- 20 minutes- most of the time really went into updating on the system. No vocabulary, no definitions.

She waited for about an hour and half  to be called for  the oath ceremony.  Time from entry to exit was approximately 2.5 hours.

Good luck to all of us .

    SamAndi congrats !

Vol_UTK , I am not their yet . Step 3 file 12/10. Step 3 since 3 weeks and stuck with no interview .I am in 1800 in queue and estimate date 2/2.
i heard someone in this forum filed FOIA in nov and has crossed the estimated date and still waiting for interview . He was in 500 queue.

On the other side i see many good news of interview for FOIA filed . So I guess it’s a matter of waiting ? I don’t know .

I am just curious why? I wish you get your interview scheduled as well sooner. Is this because of your field office? Or you been in multiple states or longer time in US so much paper work?

I don't know if anyone remembers me, but as I mentioned before: I requested A-file back in Nov 2021. It got stuck in step 2 for more than 2 months. Today it finally moved to step 4.

Still no information on interview scheduling yet. How long did everyone wait to get an interview notice, after A file request moved to step 3? 1-2weeks?

I got my interview scheduled while FOIA in Stage 2 and it still in Stage 2 for almost a month now. Not sure if this is helpful.

Folks - just wanted to let you know that as of yesterday (1/21) my spouses' FOIA status went to Complete and the A-file details could be retrieved in the document library within the FOIA site itself. It was about 140 pages consisting of records/evidence  submitted during the GC process and the N400 application

    Timeline

    FOIA submission : 12/10/2021

    FOIA to Step 3 : 1/5/2022

    Interview notification : 1/7/2022

    FOIA  Complete: 1/21/2022

I found an interesting case flag as part of the N400 document that stated : Applicant may not have been an LPR for 5 years. I suspect this is because we did early filing based on the N400- early filing calculator.

Great. Nice! Mine Still in Step 2, but I got my interview scheduled, hopefully they will not cancel or move to later day, because of this 😞

Hi everyone, got notification that my FOIA request was completed. I filed it on 12/10, requested full A-file and it went under the complex track 2 processing. I received the files in my online account and it’s comprehensive. 600+ pages of all my USCIS applications from F1 visa to green card application, removal of conditional status and now citizenship application. It’s a pdf of all documents I had sent. Some interesting internal DHS docs as well regarding my background information, marriage status, employment.

I have my interview scheduled for 02/15, pretty sure FOIA triggered it. Thanks again to samxx for the tip.

Awesome! Congrats! I also applied for FOIA on 12/14 - It's still in Step 2 - but my interview is scheduled for Feb 12th. How long your were in step 2? Can you throw some light on it pls?

I had my interview on 1/10 and already got scheduled for Oath in 2 weeks. My wife also had her interview last Friday and is now in line for Oath ceremony. We both had our interviews scheduled one month after filing FOIA requests.

Congrats. I followed the same. My interview is scheduled on Feb 12th exactly after 1 month from FOIA request, but mine is still step 2.

Based on what I read on the forums- I really dont think Step 2 and 3 matters anymore . There are forum members who got their interviews while in Step 2 as well.. The important thing is that you submitted your FOIA requests which probably accelerates your path to interview.

Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I wanted to share my good news as well, both I and my wife got the interview just few mins back for the same date and time. Thank you to everyone in the forum!! Like you rightly said mine and my wife status is still in step 2 but we both got interview notice just few mins back....Looks like its a great day lots of us got interview!! Others we wish you luck

    Great news for me too))))

I am finally scheduled for an interview in February)))) I don't know what really helped- I have done everything like everyone in this chat and the last step was the FOIA ( I am still in step 2). The only thing I can say is that please don't loose hope and keep on doing everything that is in your hands!!!

WOW - You made my day 🙂 I was wondering I thought I got stuck in in Step 2 🙂 Hope fully I will get interview soon. Between When did you apply for FOIA? I applied on 12/14.

Happy to inform that I too have been scheduled for my interview on Valentine's day (lol) . For better context from an FOIA perspective, my wife's FOIA went to step 3 a week before mine did and now my interview has been scheduled a week after her's.

I really think FOIA did the trick and urge all who have not done so to go ahead and submit a request - you have nothing to lose !

Mine is in that range as well - I guess you will receive your appointment soon.

Thank you so much for positive Vibes, Are you saying you got interview while its still in Step 2? For me and my wife both are still in Step 2 for almost 20+ Days.

Great news!!! I just logged into USCIS portal this morning and see both mine and wife's interview were scheduled for Feb.

We filed FOIA on Dec 12th. Mine went to step 3 on Dec 30. My wife's is still in Step 2 as of this morning.

It looks like FOIA has triggered the interview.

We have international trip next day after the interview and wondering if we can ask USCIS to have next Oath ceremony date instead of the same day oath. Any one has any experience in this ?

Congrats! I submitted FOIA on December 14th got the letter on Dec 27th still its Step 2 for both me and my wife. Do any of you know when will this move to Step 3? Mine is saying currently ~11,500 out of 17,500 in pending Queue? Did Miss anything while requesting for FOIA? Any insight will be helpful!
