Finally got the 10 year green card today and we're finally done with USCIS for a long time! It took only a little less than 3 years from filing for the K-1 to receiving the unconditional green card. I am happy to say that we had zero problems in the entire process. I am glad to have found this web site because it takes a lot of the guess work out of the waiting time. Sayonara and ganbatte everyone!

Just filed the removal of conditions and checking up after a 2 year absence. We also got a reminder letter. I'm out of the US for a little right now, but mailed the stuff anyway. Hopefully I'm back for the biometrics!

I'm using my old computer (Pentium 3) with a Realmagic DVD decoder card and a hacking program called Region Selector. The Realmagic card has an output for my TV, so it converts the PAL or SECAM to NTSC as well. I also had to hack the ROM on the DVD drive itself to remove its own region checking system. However, I can play any disc on my NTSC TV, even the ones that check for multi-region players because the Region Selector program appears to the disc as a single-region player, for whichever region the disc is made for.

I'm in the military and have moved 7 times in 5 years. I can move in one day start to finish. And that's packing up a moving van and then unpacking it at the destination--by myself. Granted, I didn't have much stuff when I was single. In terminating services, water, natural gas, electricity, etc, this kind of stuff can be handled over the phone enroute the destination or when you get to your new place.
Now in my fiancee's (now wife) case, I was there to help her pack things up with the help of a friend. We put all her stuff into sacks, drove it to a local packer, the local packer put it all in boxes. Then we took it to the post office and mailed it off. Total time was 6 hours.
If you want advice: Leave him alone and let him sort it out. You can't do anything about it anyway.

I'm done. No problems, except with social security administration. Now...it's good having the green card, but it's only about 1.5 years' peace. What do I mean by peace? I mean there was so much uncertainty about the process it causes fear. In the attempt to gain freedom the whole process is the ultimate duress.

My girl got her vaccines when she visited me in the US, prior to the medical exam, and then once she got here on her K-1 Visa. She got TD, MMR, and written down that she had had chickenpox as a child. She got the TD and MMR in Arkansas for $5, prior to her medical exam. And then when she came here on the K-1, She got the TD and MMR again in Texas for $35. We used the public health clinic both times. Then we took all the records to a local USCIS doctor to get the vaccines put on the I-693. He charged us $20.

My babe got her learner's permit for driving today. In Arkansas you don't need a social security number to get a license. Anyway, we went to one DMV and she made a 64% on the test. We reviewed the questions she could remember and then drove to another testing location and this time she made an 80% which is the min passing score. Lucky!
I'm teaching her to drive everyday for about one hour. I have a manual transmission Honda Accord, so the learning is a bit challenging. After 30 days we can go back to get her examined by a policeman on the practical test. I don't know how it will work with her I-94 being expired, but hopefully by that time she will have EAD or greencard...otherwise, I doubt they will issue a license. But...the expiration date of the learner's permit goes way past her I-94 expiration date, so you never know. It seems in Arkansas they're pretty relaxed about the driver license, unlike Texas or Indiana.

I read a few months ago a press release from USCIS that AP must now have biometrics. I filed my AOS application with AP and EAD included and received the biometrics app't letter, but on the Case type it only lists I-485 and I-765. Has anyone else had the I-131 included in the case type on the biometrics app't letter?

Got our NOA for AOS and AP in the mail today. None for EAD so far. Check has not been cashed. I put the receipt number into CRIS on USCIS website, but the receipt number is not recognized.

How long does it take to get your new Koseki Touhon after your marriage? In other words: when we get married we will send a bunch of forms to Akishima City Hall, then they will update the Koseki Touhon with my wife's new last name, and then they will send us the new Koseki, right?
We're getting married in the US and then staying in the US, so I was just wondering how long it has taken anyone who has already done this step.

Do any of you from Japan know any Kanji that sounds like "Jones" and has an acceptable meaning? My fiancee and I want to have her family name changed on her Koseki Touhon to Jones. (we would like to use Kanji, not Katakana).

I'm about to get married to a Japanese woman in the US and wanted to know if we need to register the marriage with the closest Japan Consulate (Houston) or the main embassy in DC and also does it need to be in-person or can it be via mail?

I just went to Japan to be with Chi during her interview and also to meet her parents. Everything went very well. We have visa in hand. Ours went relatively fast. I'm going back in a couple weeks to have a "good-bye dinner party" since her family will be unable to go to the wedding. This is only the beginning for us.

It seems that once the Japanese citizen gets the first packet, then he/she can go and get the medical and police certificate, at least in Tokyo, with the only question being: "have you received a packet from the embassy?" (with no proof expected). We have yet to receive the subsequent packet, yet we have done the police and medical processing. In two weeks, we shall receive the results of both, and then, regardless of whether or not we receive the "packet 4", we shall schedule the interview, so FYI. This is info for K-1 processors.

Next time you're in Japan, she should visit the city hall (or wherever the koseki tohon is) and have you added.
For my wife, when we got a chance which was about two months after the wedding, we traveled to the nearest Japan Consulate (which for us was in Nashville, TN) and had the consulate put a name change on the passport. I suppose you could continue to use the old passport unaltered, but any time you wish to use it, the airline tickets or whatever else need to match the name in the passport.
