  1. i think you are jumping ahead of the gun.

you got your noa1 only 4 months ago. most of the people who filed this year waited six months and some even longer. that has happened because of doubled number of petitions. in july, if you looked at the processing time lines at uscis's website, it did say 'six months' for I-129F. we all hoped it would be sooner, but heh, they are within the time frame.

    patience, patience and patience.

since 1997 this has become a slow and painful process. i think suing will do nothing, but waste your time and money. and you can get blackballed and not be able to immigrate in usa as a result of the lawsuit against the government. remember, you are a petitioner and they can decide to deny the petition. then what...careful

  2. Hi, there --

My NOA2 came through after 187 days, effective December 21. Questions for those who know:

    1. Is it more proper or effective to call USCIS (grrrrr) to learn whether they have sent the file to the NVC, or to call the NVC periodically to learn whether they've received it?

    B. If the NVC is a toll call, it could be expensive, depending on "time spent on hold"; is there a set of digits that can be punched into the phone without having to listen to the recorded explanations of all the options? If so, what is the set of digits, please?

iii. Does the NVC have a bunch of uncaring, rude, know-nothing clowns initially screening calls as USCIS does? If so, is there a combination of phone buttons to punch that will bypass the clowns and take a caller directly to someone with true knowledge?

    d. If I am calling the NVC for the first time, what information do I need to provide in order for the NVC to research my case -- the USCIS "WAC" number, or my fiancee's Alien Registration Number, or something else?

    5. Are there any other "insider" tips to know?

    Thanks for your advice!

TboneTx, actually when I spoke to the NVC people they were alot different from CSC. I do believe its a pay call and the best time to telephone them is in the evening. Good luck and our application was only at the NVC for two days and then sent electronically to the embassy.

I had the best luck with calling NVC. They are super nice and helpful. USCIS people are sometimes like space cadets, don't know why exactly, but they weren't on the top of things.

The trick with NVC is to get in the call queue, so you need to dial few times until you get in. If they say that they will return you to the automated service, hang up immediately and call again until they tell you to wait for the next operator .

I call every day, so I press 1 for english, then 2 for K visa and listen what the voice says. After you get in the queue, it takes 3-4 minutes for the operator to answer.

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE USCIS SENT OUR CASE TO NVC ON DECEMBER 21st!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, NVC doesn't have it yet?????????????

ok. at least we are moving.

  3. SuperNova,

congratulations! please do tell how was it at the interview? were they nice and fast, or they grilled you? was it a long wait?

i read on K-1 forum that NVC is currently not issuing numbers until January 07, 2008. They run out of numbers?

This is the week #4 since our approval and our file hasn't arrived to NVC. I wonder if we are also subjected to quota (I think we are exempt from quotas because it's a family visa?) hm hm hm

I wish that USCIS is working FASTER. how hard is to mail out the approved case ARGH

  4. Ahmad and Gwen, thank you. i tried calling NVC only 2 times, and got through in less than 5 minutes. surprising, cuz it's friday and it seemed like it will take forever to talk to an operator. but what do you know!

anyway, while waiting for the kind lady to check my status, my heart was racing, because if I heard that our docs were sent to embassy, I would pass out!

but, sigh. nothing arrived there yet...

according to current timelines, looks like that next week they will receive it....

congratulations to everyone who got their papers to embassies. it's impossible to track individual names, because uscis processed cases in big batches.

  5. personal checks are not valid in most of the places in the world outside of usa. they are not valid state to state!

you can try international money order - but first check with the post office or bank if the particular country accepts them. if you chose to mail the money order, note that it is illegal to mail monetary effects to most of the countries. kind of catch 22. so you are risking that the person that opens your envelope, can appropriate the money.

money wire transfer works. i heard this is a good way to move the money across the border, but there is a wait, sometimes few weeks.

i heard good things about xoom.com, but that is for brazil.

i added my husband as an account user and i gave him his card. on this way he can use our bank account with debit bank card in brazil. not only that this is super practical for us, but also provides a paper trail of money transfers for uscis.

    hope this helps

  6. edp33 thanks.

comic relief: i just looked to the usa consulate in rio de janeiro website. no link to track the nvc numbers. but this is what i found:

"For security reasons, visa applicants and American citizens are not allowed to enter the Embassy grounds with bags or electronic devices, with the exception of one small purse. The guard detachment cannot check bags, suitcases, or electronic devices, with the exception of cell phones. Cell phones will be held by the guards and returned to the owner upon exiting the Embassy grounds."

our supporting evidence of relationships definitely fits a small suitcase! so my hubby will need to carry all the papers in his hands. i can imagine his face while he is wrestling with the files and binders. kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

he will mumble 'abusadinha', thanking me for all the printouts from email and msn chat that we have.
