  1. it's been about 3 years since i posted...hello everyone!

we filed ROC in November and got the package returned 2 times. Once because the signature on the application was xerox (but they DO say to send copies only, confusing!), and secong time because we sent 545$ (couldn't they see that at the first return?)...anyway....my husband received a letter that extends his status for 1 year....he had biometrics appt on January 03, 2011, his GC expires tomorrow...

just today he went to DMV to renew driver license, and got the extension until March....we hoped to have some response from USCIS until now.

what are processing times now? i saw on their website that it's 6 months in california. that is soooo long....

also, did anyone got GC without the interview?

    Good luck to all!

  2. First of all, happy Valentine's Day to all VJ's and good luck on the upcoming interviews. Hope you are well prepared!

Secondly, I wanted to share our story, because it's important to know how crucial is to stay on the top of the document placement!

Our case arrived to the Consulate in RDJ on January 11th, we tracked DHL shipments via tips posted here on VJ. We found out our interview date because I emailed the Consulate after few days. No letters or packages arrived to any party after a week of this phone conversation, so I called again.

I was said that the Consulate did not have my husband's zip code and that they could not mail the package 3 to him, but that they will send it now, because I gave the correct zip to them.

After one week, I called again because we still did not get the package or interview confirmation letter, and I was said that he doesn't need the letter, but to look at the Consulate's website for required documents.

I asked how is he supposed to enter the building on the interview date, and I was said that he should only have his case number. hmmm...

My husband said that doctors told him to present the letter from the Consulate before the exam, so was the response from the state police. hmmmm

Then, yesterday, package 3 arrives to my husband's address, with the letter that confirms the interview date. So, I guess we are fine, but why oh why is this process so tedious until the very end? Package 3 arrived only a week before his interview. If we did not start with compiling information and documents, we would have a big problem.

Other VJs had completely different experience with RDJ Consulate. No letter or package arrived, doctors or police did not ask for the letter of confirmation, they still were able to finish the process...so confusing!

But ok. I still feel that the worst is behind us, that horrible months of waiting. I lost my anger along the way, I can't even complain anymore. I just want this done, done, finished!

We have almost all documents that we need to present for the Visa interview and I hope that all will go well from here. I heard that the interview in RDJ is pretty smooth and pleasant experience all together, so from here to God's ears.

  3. Hi guys, I was curious to know if anyone actually received packet 3 from the RDJ consulate? They said that they are going to send it to us, but we did not get it yet...so we are calling in again tomorrow

also, do you know if we need a new affidavit of support, or just three years of tax returns, employer letter and paystubs are enough?????

I hope all is going well with everyone!

    xoxo

  4. mbdesousa,

He will get his passport with the visa stamped in the mail.

The time of wait depends on the city in that your husband lives.

    Good luck!

Oh thanks. This is the last missing piece of the puzzle. I thought that I read that Rio de Janeiro Consulate doesn't stamp the passport on the spot. Good to know. My hubby lives in RdJ, btw.

Good luck to you , too!!! and tons of happiness!

  5. glad to be of help... i was talking to my husband today, we are both in shock...because, guess what? now the big problem (uncertainty) is out of the way...and we are confused, happy, crazy, scared...we have pretty much nothing to worry about now...

so expect lots of different feelings, moods, ideas to emerge along the way.

and, to make you feel even better, once you are done with uscis, things will really look up! uscis is like some filter that sorts cases at the bottom level ( i can see weak couples dropping out off the process), they provide horrible information and horrible customer service. But!!! - once you move to nvc and consulates ...ahhhhhhh heaven! you will be so much more at peace

ok. 'nuf sentimental stuff... good luck to you! keep the faith at the right place!

  6. you need to devise the plan to survive the wait, that is considerable. if you follow the guidelines on the uscis's website, they are fairly accurate...

seems that the wait is lessening now, but for us who filed in march/april/may and expected our loved ones to be with us by the end of the year, this turned into a very, very long unpredictable journey....some countries are running extensive background checks, so couples that were seeking visas there wait (ed) for even two years to reunite...

    so... patience!

it will work out in the end, do not let the separation anxiety rule over your relationship. plan to visit your fiance regularly and to keep the contact daily. remember, you are BOTH in this process, not only you. it is not fair to think that you are having a better time separated, because it is simply not true. suffering is very hard and mutual, and is a par of this deal

    hope this helped.

  7. I very well how obsessive this process can makes us.

my hairstylist is from Cameroon and she also immigrated to US. She said to me: they want to see love, they want to see the wedding cake...

so I made my husband to order triple decker cake and we made tons of photos with it.

I got totally superstitious over the cake thing and would not rest until the cake order was complete.

  8. thank you all for the valuable information :)

so, the consulate is scheduling interviews to about a month ahead, is that right?

looks like we are the next to find out the interview date! i bet you it will be around 18-19-20 of feb just like for peeps that have been approved on nov 28 and 29th!

    i am freaking out

but also, what do we do if the embassy 'forgets' to send package 3 to our spouses? can they walk in without an appt (showing the NVC letter only and the interview date email) and pick it up?

let's look into the airplane tickets, guys! luckily, i have a free continental airline voucher for the miles i earned going back and forth to brazil. curiously, one way tixs are way more expensive than round trip, and they are getting more expensive closer to the flying date...

    omg! omg! omg!

do they give the visa immediately or my hubby will have to go back and pick it up?

  9. Hi Mbdesousa,

You should be right behind us. I called NVC, they gave me the case number. In about a week I wrote the consulate in Rio. The consulate wrote me back in about 2 days and said they had just mailed a confirmation letter to my wife. And the web link to the consulate, and department state for the forms. The consulate never sent us a packet 3 to schedule the interview, they gave us one first. (Very good)

this is very helpful, jg0407. i heard that they are not really reliable with the mailing of the packet. then i will call them on monday!

    yippeee
