  1. If he got his 13a from the embassy in the US there is no 1 year wait for it to be permanent, it already is. When I said that you couldn't work on the 13a I neglected to type the word " alone " before I hit the button to post it. Depending on where you live in the Philippines you will get different answers to whether or not you have to get a DOL permit. You will have to get a BIR and a TIN number plus file a tax return for the Philippines as well as the US after you start working. You will also have to pay SSS and if you have employees you will have to pay Phil Health along with SSS for them. Don't forget about the 60-40 ownership rules for companies and corporations. I also live here permanently and used to work here, what a pain.

I got my 13a in Los Angeles so I am already permanent is that correct? I will be working for a owner of a Re/Max as a Real Estate Sales Agent so I won't be working alone. What is a BIR and SSS? Is it true that the US has an agreement with the Philippines to not tax you on money the Philippines taxes you on already? Any and all info you can give me would be great. I want to work ASAP after arriving so is there anything I can do in advance?

  2. False!!! I have a 13a and im legally working , i live and work in the philippines so yes get the 13a it will save you a lot of visa fees and issues in the long run

After 1 year on probationary you can petition it to perm resident

I'm a perm resident of the philippines now days, thanks USCIS!

I received my 13a visa yesterday. What did you have to do so you could work legally? After you received your visa did you do anything else. I'm moving there in June to work as a real estate agent. Anything you can tell me would be great. Thanks

    Any other experiences also

  3. I just got my 13a (spouse of a Filipino) visa from the Philippines consulate in LA. I am American and have a job offer working for Re/Max in the Philippines selling Real Estate. Does anyone know if I can work with a 13a or do I need a work permit? Is there anyone who has applied or already has a 13a that can tell me why they had to do when they arrived in the Philippines? Do I need to renew every year or not? Any and all info would be great because I'm moving there in June.

  4. What website do you use for the cheapest airfares?

I found a fare for about 1/2 of what all the other sites have listed, but I'm weary of it...my "too good to be true" alarm is flashing. asaptickets.com - anyone ever heard of it or used it?

I arrived in the Philippines from Las Vegas on November 28th. I also contacted ASAP. They gave me the price and I then checked the site of the airline they gave me which was ANA. Then went to the Local Mango tours and showed them and they took another 20 off. The price ASAP gave me from the start was low but the airline itself was lower. Always check the airline direct after getting the info. I got RT from Las vegas for 840 Nov 27-Dec 18

  5. My wife's parents arrived in the US on Nov 5th. They already received the green cards in the mail. Does anyone know how long it will take to receive the social security cards also? We applied for them during the paperwork process.

Also her fathers green card had a error on it so we had to send in a form for a replacement. Does anyone know how long it takes for the replacement?

  7. Anyone in Manila know the current exchange rate?

I was consider exchanging my USD to PHP at my bank, since they offer that service, before I leave. But, the exchange rate seems low. I'm not sure what a real world rate is in Manila.

    Google says 1 USD = 41.1800 PHP

    My bank 1 USD = 36.19 PHP

If anyone knows current real world rates as of this month/week in Manila please share.

    Thank you!

Never exchange at a bank even in the Philippines. Always look for a money changer in the mall. The bank will never give a better rate. I have been going to the Philippines for almost 10 years now and never use a bank. I'm going again Nov 27th.

  8. Thats true, but i just assumed since the USA has no problem with illegal immigrants crossing in and staying or kids being brought over as illegal and growing up in the states that the legal path would be a lot more accepted.

    Example

Immigrant crosses the border, has no visa brings a child not born in the usa, that kid gets to stay under the dream act

Me, married my wife and have a son. My wife can't even visit for a short time after following all legal channels.

For me, yes i do see a difference in those.

If the wife of a usa citizen and mother of a usa citizen has no right, then illegals should also have no right. But instead it seems they have more rights than those of us that follow the laws and steps and wait our time (years)

I agree the US is so F--- up. A married US citizen has to jump through hoops to bring a family member but someone from Mexico can just walk over have a baby and the baby gets to stay. My wife is Filipina and became a US citizen last March. It took us 8 months to get her parents to the US. Her sister and brother will have to wait 10-20 years. This country is so worried about helping other countries and not US citizen that's why the US economy is so bad now

DON'T even try for the tourist visa. You will not get it an just waste your money to file.

  9. hi there. actually me and my hubby is getting ready to move there early next year. can u give me any idea which town do we need to avoid in there?

The southwest part of Las Vegas in good. Also any area in Summerlin but Summerlin can be a little costly. Mountains Edge area is great also. Stay away from most of the east side.

  10. I rented a car the first time I went to the Philippines 10 years ago and used Avis. Went back many times since and always used a taxi. In Manila area no need for a car rental. We hired a car for the day once just to travel to The amusement park an see a volcano and other places. You can find a taxi with in seconds of walking out of your hotel.

  11. Hi, I have a question, which I am sure has been answered on this forum many times, but I just can not find any info on it. I would really appreciate any input.

Can anybody please explain in detail what happens after the case is received at NVC? (I am sponsoring my mom). Am I supposed to call NVC to get a case number or just wait for them to mail me package with information? What forms do I need to mail/e-mail them?

    Thanks a lot!

  12. My wife's parents arrived in Las Vegas Tuesday. They had POE in Honolulu with no problems but almost missed the flight to Las Vegas because they forgot to change the time from Manila to Honolulu time. They were the last passengers to get on the plane. We never thought to tell them about the time change. Anyway the wait is over now. Good luck to everyone.
