  1. Things will be faster now that we are not all calling and bugging them. I just wish they had a more informative and accurate system. Has anyone gone over the 6 weeks? How much longer? Did you call the embassy, and what did they say about that? I'd hope that they would get involved and give more information after the 6 weeks of patient waiting.

Delbro's message "shipment in process at the embassy" is bad information- our DV is with NSO right now. That message needs to be changed to reflect accurate information.

I have not had any problems with the call center. But from what I've read, it seems to be a mix of agents needing additional training and the fact that their computer screen really doesn't give them much information. But calling 3 times and receiving different/conflicting information is grounds for the call center's contract to be termination.

I say we all boycott this system and use the other one. Oh I forgot, this is the only system.

  2. thanks so much for posting this picture. I saw it when you first posted it, and it has really stuck in my mind. With all the negative images thrown at us by the media, I'm delighted that my mind decided to store this one in long term memory.

I hope you're doing great still and adjusting nicely to American life.

  3. Jenny and I have tickets but she's shy and doesn't want to go. But it's the day before my birthday. My workmate got the tickets and he's going also. Tune in if you can and look for 2 huge white guys. You might not be able to see Jenny, she's threatening to hide behind us. I'm practicing my Wowowee dance so maybe you'll get a glimpse of her while I'm making my moves.

Jenny and I are together now in Makati while I'm working. I rush home every morning after my night shift so I can be in her arms. One more week of work, and then it's off to Baywatch Tower in Malate (thanks DBears) for our vacation together.

My timeline keeps pushing back and back and back. I don't think the calculations take into account historical data and the fact that all those Vermont people take vacations in the summer. Now it looks like we won't be approved until after I leave, so I gotta lug that 2 pound I-129F packet back to the USA and send it back here after we get approved.

  4. I'm looking at the vaccinations required, and just wondering about which ones are safer in the USA. Call me Mr. Worry Wart.

I was reading this post about PERTUSSIS

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...;hl=vaccination

so I did some googling, and found on my favorite site wikipedia

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pertussis

and found the sentence: The whole-cell vaccine is still used in poor countries, since it is cheaper than the newer and safer acellular formulation.

I realize its much cheaper/already paid for to get all these done during the medical in Phils, but which ones are safer to do in the USA?

  5. Make sure to try Ciavelita's grocery and deli. Its in Elsmere, only about 20 miles from you. I think you mentioned Kirkwood Hwy, its right there.

I just went today, I go about every week. Rudy's been expanding, and has a bunch of new freezers now with all kind of good stuff. Check it out, I'm sure it'll help having some tasty groceries from home. And theres a few asian groceries right there also.

I usually go for lunch, hes got about 14 different dishes everyday. Good luck with everything.

  6. I'm coming to the Philippines in July for a vacation plus some work. I'll need to get my own hotel and pay my own expenses for about 8-10 days; my work will put me up in the Ascott for the remaining 10 days. I'm looking for the best blend of safe and inexpensive. Jenny and I have really been researching this, but there are so many conflicting reviews on the internet that we can't decide. I've grown to trust my fello VJer's opinions, so I'm asking for your help.

We're up for anything., except Jenny really doesn't want the plan to include a boat ride. Especially since a ferry capsized last week and people died. Before that I was seriously considering a resort area since the prices are nice and low during the 'off season'

I'll be arriving in Manila, Jenny lives in Las Pinas, so Manila is our point of origin. We could fly to somewhere (Cebu, Davao), but then that adds to the trip cost. Somewhere with a kitchen might make things less expensive since we could cook some of our own meals. I'm trying to consider all the expenses- hotel, travel, and meals.

Remembering that I'm spoiled from the Ascott but on a budget since I'm paying my own way, what would you suggest? Some of my preferences: aircon, wifi, safe, clean, and working lifts.

    thanks VJ family,

  7. Just my 2 cents here. But why not make something for that represents you best? I'd assume that when you went to visit her, she probebly made some really good filipino food and I'm sure she eats plenty of that now as it is.

What is your favorite meal? Make that for her.

I think thats great advice. She seems to like spaghetti and meatballs (favorite birthday dish), so I'm thinking that's an easy one to leave the gravy stay warm in the crockpot while I'm picking her up. But I think I'll give it my signature twist and make it really American- with bison meat. And I'll pull out that mixer attachment and make some real homemade noodles. There's nothing like freshly made pasta noodles cooked al dente. Freshly grated parmesan, garlic toast. And chocolate desert, maybe I'll crank up the fountain and have those little nearly frozen cheesecakes, bananas, strawberries, marshmallows, and sponge cake.

And I'd like to thanks the women here that are maintaining blogs. I'm really enjoying reading those. Right now, I'm into

    SweetCouple Marlys' at http://marlysefcik.blogspot.com/

    and

    Inday's at http://indayskitchen.blogspot.com/

We've waited one month already. How much longer? God, please let it be just 5 more.

    Thanks VJ,

  8. My first dinner I cooked for my fiancee was beef steak, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, garlic toast, and broccoli. All homemade in my Ascott hotel suite's kitchen. I even boiled down some beef bones to make the gravy.

I'm sure I'll make something Filipino when the USA government finally decides we've waited long enough and I get her here to my big empty lonely home in Delaware. Please keep posting, I'm curious as to what causes the most delight for that special someone when they finally arrive in the USA.

  9. Hi there,i am new in this site and has the same issue. I worked in Singapore and Malaysia in the past 2 years and 3 months and i just came home here in Manila last Mar.26,2008. I am wondering how to get an NBI or police clearance from those countries since my fiance told me that those countries don't issue police clearances to foreign workers so i am worried! Are there any alternatives aside from these? We just sent our I-129F yesterday and he said i need it for my interview once we get approved. Any suggestions pls?? I would gladly appreciate response from u guys.. Thanks a lot and God bless! :)

Hello, I'm PaulJen's fiance, and I'm hoping her post doesn't get lost since two more already arrived.

The situation- her permanent residence is Philippines, However, she was out of the country for 3 years touring between Singapore and Malaysia. Singapore says they will only give a police clearance for a stay longer than 6 months, and she was never there for that long at one time. Malaysia says one year, and she was never there for that long at one time. So- are we good?

    thanks,

    Paul
