  1. This is probs a dumb question but I've seen some conflicting information! I've read in a few places that all K1 AOS packages should be sent to the Chicago lockbox. Idk if that just used to be this case but this page says that for me (living in Colorado), I should send mine to the Phoenix lockbox. Is this the case? Or do the K1 AOS's count as something slightly different? Let me know!
  2. Ah yes, it does say British citizen! I didn't even think of looking at that haha - thank you!!
  3. I guess I just don't 100% understand it. I've had the passport for my whole life but that's the extent of my 'uk citizenship' - idk if there's some grey area where I could have the passport and technically not be a citizen? Idk haha.
  4. Ah darn! I was hoping I could go without the cost of doing it on photo paper (and less than what it'd cost to get new pictures taken).
  5. Hi everyone! I know I need to provide various passport-style pics with my AOS application, and can use the ones I got taken for my K1 interview. I no longer have the actual physical pictures that I got printed (the ones that are on proper photographic paper), but I have the digital version. Can I just print this on normal paper?
  6. Hi everyone! Quick question as I'm filling out form I-765: In part 2, question 18a/18b, it says, "List all countries where you are currently a citizen or national." I put New Zealand in the first box since I was born there etc. But I also have an expired British passport that I got when I was a baby, since my Mum was born in Scotland. Should I also put the United Kingdom as a place that I am a citizen/national?
  7. And I mean this in terms of using it on legal stuff as well as other things. On official things, does it have to match his two surnames? I just want one haha!
  8. Hi everyone! I got married a few days ago and have a question about changing my surname. My husband technically has two last names but only uses both on legal/official things. If I take his last name, do I also need to take both, or can I just take the first (main) one?
  9. Yeah I know but I’ve seen conflicting info about the certification of birth certificates. On the uscis website itself it just says a COPY of the birth certificate. https://www.uscis.gov/forms/filing-guidance/checklist-of-required-initial-evidence-for-form-i-485-for-informational-purposes-only
  10. Yeah, exactly. My partner seems to think people receive their marriage certificates on the spot.
  11. It didn’t explain much other than what an nz birth certificate looks like lmao. I don’t need to be reminded for the third time that I was unprepared, I can’t go back in time.
  12. Yeah my problem is idk how I’m gonna get a certified copy of my birth certificate from a different country in 4 weeks.
  13. Well I’m not married first of all 😅 Some people say the birth certificate doesn’t need to be certified, others say it does. I’m just super confused.
  14. Hi all! I've been looking into putting together my AOS package for when I'll be filing in about a month. I've seen that they say ideally to attach a certified copy of a birth certificate. Is this a necessity? Or does it not matter as long as the copy includes all the things they need to see? I'm just a bit concerned that it'll take too long to get my birth certificate certified if I have to somehow do it in New Zealand when I have the certificate with me and need it done within 2-3 weeks. I just don't want an RFE! Also does the marriage certificate need to be certified too? I'm not sure how I'd have time to do that so close to the 90-day mark. Kind regards, Rosalea
  15. Hi everyone! I've been in the US now for 2 weeks and have been a bit confused about what my insurance options are. It seems that I can't get normal travel insurance since I now 'reside' in the US (unless I just say that I reside/am a resident of NZ [I technically am haha]), and I can't get on my partner's health insurance til we're married, and the only other option is to pay like $300+ a month. Do you guys have any tips or recommendations? I'm currently considering doing the travel insurance since it'll be the cheapest, and in some ways I guess I'm legally sort of a 'visitor', so, that works out in my head. But let me know cos I also don't wanna do something wrong haha!
  16. Hi! I think it took about 2 weeks, and yeah we got a letter! Also wow what the hell?? Have you not received anything from the consulate? They should’ve received your case about a week after the nvc sent it to them. You should email them at aucklandIV@state.gov if you haven’t already! You should’ve been contacted by them like 4 months ago.
  17. I hope you haven't been waiting too long! And yup I did get an appointment which I had last week, thank god!
  18. Yeah that’s what I’m worried will happen with mine! It still says ‘ready’ rn.
  19. I hope you’re right! Yeah, it’s definitely super easy to overthink, especially since I’m so emotionally exhausted from all of this. Thank you for your post!
  20. I had my interview at the consulate this morning (in Auckland, NZ), and was feeling quite good about everything. All the other people before me were told “congratulations the visa has been approved and you will receive it in about 10 days” at the end of their interviews. Mine went well/normal but at the end the lady said they had to fix something on the medical that the medical staff had missed (which was apparently minor), and also: ”we have everything we need” ”we’ll let you know if we need anything else” And that was it. And I’m just super unsure about the result of the interview cos obviously I wasn’t told that it was approved, or even that it would be approved after they fixed the issue. The kept my passport but didn’t tell me when I’d get it back. Everyone I’ve told about this said it will probably be fine but I’m definitely getting paranoid and am disheartened that I have no clarity on any of it. Does anyone know what might happen?
