  1. Yesterday I received an email from nvc "The National Visa Center (NVC) updated the status of your immigrant visa application. Please go to the Department of State's Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC)" but when I log in to ceac there is no message and my documents still say submitted. Is this normal? People are getting updates within an hour of receiving this email but still nothing for me

  2. So I'm writing my explanation of US domicile while I'm living abroad. I'm using my current us employed letter , my us bank statements , taxes and others as proof of maintaining us domicile while abroad. Question is : knowing how picky NVC is about uploading files under certain categories , should I?

1- attach all the supporting documents in the same PDF as the explanation letter

2-  refer to the documents uploaded under the tax transcripts and current income (taxes/bank statements/employment letter) in the letter and say see attached files

3- upload the supporting documents (taxes/bank statements/employment letter) again under proof of us domicile catégorie

(Will have the same files uploaded under 2 categories)

Yep,  anybody filing for an immigration benefit between February- April should make an effort to file the previous year tax return asap.

Did you actually hear of anyone getting an NVC checklist because of this?? Please we can't do anything but wait another month for the 2021 taxes to be submitted to begin with then another 6 weeks for it to process as we are processing by mail cuz I'm filing married filing separately

and u will be asked to redo the I 864 and submit the 2021 taxes as they will be the most recent for the interview

that is new I 864 for both u and joint sponsor and the new tax year

u  do realize u already have a long wait till interview??

what country is this?  the embassy is very important as some embassies require new I 864 and new tax papers before the interview is scheduled and other embassies do not?

please complete your timeline and ID the embassy/country

So now you are saying I will get an RFE from the NVC asking me to re upload the 2021 taxes and a new i-864??  If it is just the embassy we are planning to take a new i-864 and 2021 taxes to the interview anyway. But filing now to win a month. It's Tunisia

well,  u will need the 2021 tax returns for interview

so, doing a I 864 and 2020 taxes at this point is almost useless

do u know u can wait to do the AOS part of NVC for a year keeping the case open by notifying NVC once a month to keep case open

(case #,  both names and both DOB's needed on any email u send to NVC)

this would give u time to process the 2021 tax returns

Why waste a month of waiting?

I will have the 2021 taxes before the interview.

Can't i file now? Gain a month in advance of the NVC wait times. Then take the 2021 taxes to the embassy??

u file for extension and the case will go into AP at the embassy interview till 2021 taxes are submitted as there is no way you'll have an interview between now and the 18th of April

    both doing extension???

I was just wondering as all of us filing for an extension will be impractical...

OK,  would help to know all the facts

please complete a timeline on your profile

as all your past posts refer to a K1

are u in the US and doing AOS or spouse is in foreign country and doing CR1?

right now all u can provide to NVC is 2020 tax returns and whether NVC sends an RFE,  we don't know

depends on the returns and income

but RFE will not be for the fact they are 2020

We are doing cr-1 now . We decided to be together sooner so we ditched the k-1 and got married abroad

If your joint sponsor has already filed 2021 taxes, I would submit them.   That might even avoid an RFE.

No. Neither of the 3 of us have 2021 taxes. As we all depend on the same business , Wich it's tax return is being processed but won't be ready soon...

I think NVC could ask for 2021 tax documents.....especially if you have not filed an extension.  I seem to remember that happening at least once in the past.  Personally, I would make every effort to file 2021 taxes as soon as you can, then upload 2021 documents.

I can't file right now as my business tax returns won't be ready for at least a month.and i file my personal taxes based on them

    NVC does not process this

when the embassy is ready to schedule ,  the packet will go to embassy and your latest income statements will be taken in by the intending immigrant and viewed there

I'm asking if using 2020 transcripts now would cause a checklist by the NVC when they review my files after the 18th

Make sure you file for an extension request. Easy to do online and will give you until October to file. If you can't file by the 18th of April. And it should be based on the date they receive your package, so as long as they have it before the 18th of April, they would only expect 2020 tax transcripts. They may ask for updated ones at the interview down the line if your 2020 is close to poverty level, but that's down the line.

So now 2020 would not cause an RFE? And I will file before the 18th , not sooner than a week earlier tho....

You/your SO asked us a question if joint sponsorship would be ok/not okay in your situation and we answered. You asked for opinions - we  gave you our realistic opinions. Now whether or not our suggestions work out for your relationship is not something we can help with since that is between you two.

Yes, that is what was asked. I appreciate honest answers to the question that was asked. How we should spend our time, how naïve we are, or old we seem, is also between us two.

So she would choose to spend HOURS  talking on the phone, over taking working enough to sponsor you?  You guys sound young.

Not everyone is the type of person who is okay with maintaining a relationship based off of talking 2 days a week. Just looking for answers to some questions before making decisions, but thanks for input. We are young, which will be great for whichever application we choose : )

Are you seriously saying that she doesn't want to find a better job to sponsor you because you wont be able to talk often? Wow, that's a new one for me. My now husband was/is working 6 days a week for 10 hours a day while we had an 11 hour time difference for all of our K-1 journey. Still managed to talk every day and make time. We knew that financial stability and being able to show that he can sponsor me was one of the main priorities. Not to sound harsh but I suggest you rethink yours.

What works for some relationships doesn't always work for others.
