I'm bored & thought I'd throw my two cents in as a USC.
Kyle and I have talked about this issue a few times. His original thought was that he would have to give up his Canadian citizenship to be a USC. But when he found out that he didn't, he was much more receptive. The biggest benefit, of course, is that we would never have to deal with USCIS again! Another thing is that we're both young (under 25) and neither of us are into a full-fledged career, so we may want to move to Canada in a few years - who knows? We want to be able to move to Canada without wasting all of this time and money, so him becoming a citizen makes sense. Also, at their current prices, it would cost more money in the long run for him to stay in the US and keep getting green cards than to just shell out the money to become a citizen.
I would never see him as anything but Canadian. It would just be a choice we make to make life easier down the road for us.

Our song was originally "Far Away" by Nickelback. It was current-ish and Kyle is a Nickelback fan. However, now that we're together, we have two other songs that are better suited to us - "You're My Best Friend" by Queen (it was the song that played after we were pronounced husband & wife at our wedding) and "Sweet Thing" by Keith Urban.

Like so many on VJ, my husband and I met on the internet. But I'll back up to give the full story.
My freshman year of college, I went to school just under an hour away from home. I absolutely loved it there. It was a decent sized school, not too big, not too small. My roommate, my classes, and my friends were all amazing. So I did the only logical thing - I transferred to a monstrous university in my hometown.
I still don't really know to this day WHY I left the school I was attending. My excuse since I graduated was that the first school I went to didn't have my program, but I hadn't chosen my program at the time I left, so I don't really know. But before I could go to said monstrous, I had to move back home while waiting for my term at the new school to begin in winter quarter. Many of my friends had left home, so I didn't have many people to hang out with, so I started going into Yahoo! hockey chat rooms (I am a HUGE hockey fan).I started going to the chat room in September of '05, and I got to the point where I was going in there on a nightly basis. There was maybe 10-12 of us who would come in nightly, or at least a few times a week. We got to the point of comfort that we would come in, chat about the days events in hockey, watch hockey and simultaneously chat about the games we were watching. Then, after we'd exhausted the hockey conversation, we would talk about ourselves. Sometimes we would play Jeopardy or other silly things (this was a voice chat room, so we could actually talk to one another).
This pattern continued once I moved to the dorms on campus. I was in the chat room less than before, but I'd still say I was in there 2-3 times a week. It was April 28th, and the NHL playoffs had just began. A friend of mine in the room was using the chat feature to play an old Columbus Blue Jackets vs Vancouver Canucks game over the speakers (he and I are both Jackets fans). Kyle comes into the room, hears the game, and being the good Canadian boy that he is, says "Go Vancouver!" So I decided to send him a PM to explain to him that it was an old game and that my friend was just replaying the game because we were bored and we were both Jackets fans. So we spent the rest of the evening talking about hockey. We talked the next night, and we talked about ourselves and got to know one another. This was the first time that we used our webcams (his typing went to hell when he saw me - he thought I was cute and his fingers couldn't function properly
). A week after we first started talking was my birthday, and he wanted to send me flowers. I gave him the address to my dorm's desk, and that day he sent me a dozen roses! It was the first time any man (other than my dad) had sent me flowers! My roommate (who probably thought I was weird for talking to people on the internet instead of going out and partying) was even impressed.I decided that I wanted to fly to Calgary (it's the nearest big city to where he lived) and meet him after school was out for the summer. I didn't have anyone to go with me, though. Round trip international flights aren't exactly cheap. But I decided I was going to go for it anyway. I'm actually surprised my parents didn't try to talk me out of it. I flew up there June 8th. I was so nervous to meet him. I was afraid that he wasn't going to like me irl, and I didn't know what I was going to do for the whole week if he didn't. I went through customs, got my bags, and couldn't figure out where to leave to find him, I was so flustered! I finally found the sliding doors, and when they opened, there he was, wearing a Rick Nash (he's the star player of the Blue Jackets) jersey.
We had an awkward hug, left the airport, and got lost in the rain while trying to find our hotel. After one night, we drove back to his hometown, about 3 hours away and spent the rest of the week there. The trip back home after that week was one of the most miserable experience I've had. I flew back up in August, though and spent a month with him at his parents place in BC (he had moved there to save up money since my visit to see him). -
My husband and I are waking up and we're getting ready to go for his biometrics appointment!
Can anyone tell me if his receipt number should be working all ready or if that wouldn't happen until after biometrics? Because I don't know if we should ask an official while we're there about it. We've had the letter for about 2 weeks and it still does not work when I try to add it to our portfolio.Congratulations to the 3 approvals!

We received his biometrics appointment letter on Monday, but when we have tried to add his case to our portfolio, it says the receipt number doesn't exist. Anyone else experience this?

I used bottom tabs to divide my petition into sections, which I referenced in the table of contents.
For oversized evidence (like my apartment lease) I color photocopied and shrunk it down to fit in an 8.5" x 11" paper.
Where did you do that?

Different forms have different instructions. If you read the instructions carefully, you will see that they ask that petitions and applications to the National Benefits Center (NBC) be submitted without using ACCO.
I find it quite confusing that some prefer it, and others don't want it at all.
So did any of you use the tabs/labels at the bottom of the submission to indicate what was what, then? I think that is where my main confusion lies - whether they should all be separated, all together, together with labels indicating different things.
Oh, and have any of you submitted an oversized document as evidence? We have a lease agreement from our previous residence. I know they don't like oversized documents, so I was wondering how you all handeled those.

Hello all,
I was reading that ACCO is preferred in sending the I-751, and I've read about people using multiple fasteners in order to submit the paperwork. I was wondering if anyone had photos of how exactly they did this? What exactly do you put together. Do you put all the evidence together, or is each individual piece of evidence ACCO'ed together? And what about photographs? I guess I'm just looking for an elaboration on what exactly needs to be done here. Thanks for your help.

Yep there is nothing wrong with that at all just as long he has his US citizenship when you decide to move. Many people get both. There's really no downside to doing it other then you could be summoned for jury duty and you still have to declare taxes outside of the US, and maybe if you are in the age range, possible to have military duty (which hasn't happened since Vietnam).
I've had both for a number of years now and have both passports...
Well the selective service only goes until 25 I think, and Kyle will be 24 this year, so we don't have too much longer to deal with that. You still have to file your taxes, though? That's a bummer.

Thank you for your information! My husband is a Canadian citizen, and we're actually going to be submitting his paperwork for ROC within a couple of months. Our (tentative) plan is to get his citizenship here, and then if the timing is right with jobs and such, move to Canada and get my citizenship. That way, we can live wherever we want, when we want.

I know that it's possible for both the USC and immigrant to both become citizens of both countries. I'm wondering if anyone has done this, especially with Canada. I'm just kind of looking for the timeline that you took and how it went. Thank you!

I am preparing the form I751 for ROC, my 90 days timeframe started on March 14th 2010.
I have only the following evidences ready,planning to send it this week so very tensed.
1.tax transcripts of 2007&2008 filed jointly(Q:2009 is not yet filed, will file this month end, i am confused ,should i wait to send the I751 for one more week or should i send it without the 2009 tax returns)
2.birth certificate of the newborn baby and her US passport
3.credit card statements with name of both of us.( from the date i came to US)
4. bank statement of our joint account(Q. since my hus use this account for his business transaction the mailing address on the bank statement is my husbands office address and not our house address, will it cause any problem)
5.medical insurance with the name of all of us,including my daughter and the new born
6.vehicle insurance with names of both of us(my car is shown as the vehicle for his office so no joint property)
7.no lease deed ,since he had is own house before i came to US.
8.AHS home maintenence contract with names of both of us
9.electricity bill with his name
10.cable TV bills with name of both of us but only for the last 4 months, previously it was only in his name
11.international calling arrangement with startec with both the names but only for last 4 months
12.driving lisence of both of us with the same address on it.
13.e-tickets of some holiday trips together.
14.photographs.
That is all , no joint property, no joint vehicle, and no joint utility bills.
is that OKDoes one have to send multiple bills from the account or does one suffice?

Thanks for your information! I haven't even began working on the forms yet. I'll probably save that until late May/early June. I just decided I didn't want to wait until the last minute to try and dig all of the evidence up.
I just requested the last two years of tax transcripts today, and I just called and am getting a confirmation of coverage from the health insurance provider that will show both of us having the same ID number. I need to call our old apartment and see if they have a copy of our old lease by chance. I can't find ours!

I am starting to prepare to send away my husband's ROC packet (we cannot send it until mid-late June but I want to have everything ready when the time comes
). However, I didn't change my name right after we got married because I was still attending school and, quite frankly, didn't want to deal with the mess. We did joint filing for both 2008 and 2009 taxes, but I used my maiden name on the 2008 return. I also have some bills and such with my maiden names, and others with my married name. Is this an issue? Do I need to have anything in the packet explaining this?Thanks so much VJers!

Sorry, I know this may be in the wrong category. I'm not really sure where it should go though.
I actually have two questions. My husband is from Canada. We've already gone through AOS and he's a conditional resident as of now. My first question: if we live close to the US/Canada border, is he allowed to work in Canada, or not?
My second question: How do I become a duel citizen, or I guess what do we have to do with his application and all before or during the time where I can be able to work in Canada as well so that we could potentially move up there one day so I can work.

Thanks to everyone for their help! I know I read online something about renewing the documents, as they are only good for one year and your conditional green card is for two. But I guess that renewal was only for people who were still waiting for their AOS do go through. Thanks for the comments and help!

Hey there. My hubby got his adjustment of status approved and is a conditional resident. My question is, do his EAD and AP need to be reapplied for in a year or so when they expire, or since he has his green card, is he covered until it's time for him to apply to remove conditions? I'm not sure if we have to reapply and repay, or if the only people who have to do that are those who are waiting for a long time for their AOS to be approved. Thank you for your help in this situation!

Our AOS case got an RFE a while ago, and afterwards, it was transferred to CSC... it hasn't been touched since 8/22... what is going on?!
We're on the same boat about "the waiting" stage... it's just so frustrating. Got no update and no interview appointment for my AOS. Those who filed after me already have their appointment... my AOS has not been touched since biometrics...:-(
