  1. Hope someone can help with this...

In preparation for the medical examination (not that I'm at that stage yet, still waiting for NOA1 but should be soon) I've been looking at the 'required vaccinations' list posted on the US Embassy site.

I know I had a whole lot of them as a kid but, problem is, I can't find my records. I lived abroad until I was 16, but we were airline folks and came back for annual health checks at Heathrow, which is where I remember having them done. But like I said, i can't find any records as to what I had done, so am going to see my GP tomorrow with the list of vaccinations I'll need...hopefully if he can do them it will be less expensive than the emabssy doctor.

Question is, if I can't prove I've already had them/ don't know if I've had them; do I have to get them all done now? Even the ones that I would probably have had as a toddler? What about the chicken pox one which isn't available here ....?

Also, does the US Embassy / Embassy doctor contact my GP for any medical info or my records?

If you can help- thanks guys, really appreciate it!

  2. Ok, Now I'm really confused.

The Police Check application I have says:

'....If you have lived at the above address for less than 10 years, please give your previous addresses for that period below. Continue on another piece of paper if you need to.'

The US Embassy notes I have (DS-230 Visa Processing- downloaded from the website) says:

'All applicants over 16 are required to furnish....to cover any period of residence of twelve months or more since the age of 16.'

So do the police forms only cover 10 a ten year period? Do I need to get, and pay for, another 2 police forms??

I'm not sure they could make this any more complicated. Sigh.

    Thanks guys.

  3. Hi Guys

Just adding myself to this topic!

bunsk2007:- Jessica (UKC) and Neil (USC, from NYC), moving to Rhode Island early 2008. Hopefully February or March. Living in Hampshire UK at the minute, waiting for I-130 approval.

    Thanks!

  4. Hi guys

Am just filling out my Police Check from so that I can nip it down to the local Hants Police Station tomorrow...still nothing back for the I-130 but I'm trying to get ahead...although I have just worked out that 40 days from tomorrow is about December 20th....I hope they don't close early for Christmas holidays, cos that will really slow things up for me!

Anyway, my question is, do I need to list every single UK address I have lived at since I was 16?!! It looks like the Police check form only covers the last 10 years....

I was a nanny for about 6 years and did a lot of temp work so some houses I was only in for about 6 or 8 weeks....I can't remember all of those addresses! I'm finding it hard to even remember my addresses from 15 years ago...am I the only one who doesn't keep records etc??!!

How much info do I need to give exactly? Thanks for helping guys.

    This wait really sucks.

  5. Hi everyone

I have just read the thread from the person needing a Police Certificate in Manchester. I need to get one in Hampshire and am hoping to get to my local police station tomorrow to do that, but I am assuming that the Hants form will be the same or at least similiar to the Manchester one?

What is the exact name of the form I need to request?!! Is it just called 'police certificate', and what is it (information I require) that I have to tick?! Is it convictions?! Feel silly asking this, I am sure it is obvious but omg these forms are doing my head in!

Does anyone have any idea of the processing time for the Hants police/ New Scotland Yard before the information is sent back to me?

Thanks. Any info will be really appreciated. This wait is doing me in!!

  6. Hi there

We're still at the early stage, having only just filled I-130 in London. I'm wondering about the police certificate that I'll need- whether to apply for it now, just so that it's to hand for the next stage? I'm assuming that it would be the Hampshire police as this is where I've lived for the last 5 years- how far does it need to go back before that? Do I go to my local police station, and what is the certificate that I need? Is there a fee for it?

Thanks in advance. This forum is a real find- thank god for being able to chat with other people going through the same thing!

    Jessica

  7. Well I suppose there aren't that many of us then!

Ah well, maybe we'll find some more as the process wears on. It's good to know other people going through at more or less the same time to make sure that timelines and info are up to date.

Thanks to the two of you that did reply though, I suspected there might have been a few lurkers that would be tempted to post, but ho hum.

    Hi guys!

I've been lurking for a couple of months, getting a few answers to questions before we'd even posted off our appliaction - love this forum! there's some great help here.

We're at the beginner sstage too, tho' a few weeks ahead of you. We DCF'd in London on Sept 15th and got receipt on the 18th, but not a peep since then.

I know it's early days yet, but the waiting's tough! How're you guys all doing?

  8. Hi everyone

My husband filed the I-130 in London for me on 15th September. We haven't heard anything back yet except for a confirmation email saying it was recieved and filed on the 09/18/07/.

Not that we were expecting anything yet...however, my parents in law in the States are keen to move this along asap and have apparently been told that their congressman over there may be able to help with my application.

Any thoughts on whether involving the congressman could help? Thank you- all replies will be much appreciated!!

  9. Hi everyone

Am filling out part of the I-130 for hubby to file on Monday when he gets back from a trip...hope someone can help with this question. I know the answer is probably really obvious, but I'm getting myself in knots trying to figure all this stuff out! So thanks to anyone who can help.

My question is regarding the G-325A form- I know we have to fill out one for me and a seperate one for hubby , but exactly how many copies are we supposed to send in??!! I have heard such conflicting advice....

There seem to be 4 identical pages of questions, right? Do we fill in all 4 and send in all 4? Does this count as 'one copy' or '4 copies'?

    Thank you :)

  10. Hi everyone..

I have some 'general' questions about moving from the UK to the US, which I've just posted them in another part of the forum (new life in America, I think) but having found this sub forum I realise this place might be where I should have posted!

Here goes again....thanks to anyone who can help!

    Freight Forwarders

Can anyone recommend a Freight Forwarder in Southern England?

We are wondering if we will get a better rate if we can book some months in advance!

    UK Electrical goods

Are there any specific ones that are worth taking /possible to take to the US?

i.e. Computers, printers, laptops, digital radios, fridge, freezer, tv?

    Medical Insurance

Can anyone recommend good health insurance? The one I know of is Blue Cross Blue Shield- is there anyone else that's worth looking into?

For people who had their policy start as soon as they stepped foot on US soil, how far in advance did you apply?

My husband (the american) isn't covered on a US policy either as he's been living in the UK for about 19 years now, so we need to start the whole thing from scratch.

We're filing the I-130 on Monday - can't wait to get started!!

Thanks for any thoughts, advice etc! All will be much appreciated.

  12. Thanks for the reply, you guys are great here. Glad you mentioned the taxes.....no, he hasn't been filing US tax returns, and yes, he has been earning more than $80,000 -although not in the last 3 years. How many years is he meant to have been filing for? He was definitely under this amount in the last 3. He's going to be contacting the embassy about this on Monday, I'll make sure of it!

The Embassy will want to see the last 3 years. The problem will be the IRS might want to know why there is a gap between when he last filed and the first of those 3. He should have filed every year he has been out of the US, if he should have filed if he had been in the US. (Hope that makes sense)

Thank you so much for replying again....I'm not certain that he has filed US taxes at all since he's been living here, which has been 16 years. Can't clarify that with him as he's away but will be finding out.

If he hasn't filed at all, what happens next? How might that affect the application?

    Help:(

  13. I'm still quite new here....I posted a question a few days ago but realised I hadn't intoduced myself yet so here I am.

I'm Jess, British and married for 16 years to a New Yorker. We met in London, got married- eloped to be more precise- in the States (Arlington, Virginia during a weekend visit); set up home in England and have lived there ever since.

We have 2 kids, 12 and 13; British born but with US citizenship too, of course. We go back to NY twice a year to see the family but have now decided to move over to Rhode Island permenantly. We're very excited and can't wait to move!!

Haven't filed the I-130 yet as we need to get hold of hubbie's birth certificate and a few other bits and pieces, but we're hoping to get started as soon as possible.

Great to have found this forum- talking to other people who have been through this really helps. Thanks guys!

  14. You can send in the I-130 before you renew your passport. The Embassy will only keep your passport for a few days after you have your visa interview. That is around 5 months away from when you file the i-130. The Embassy will not need any passport until then.

We DCF through London last year. My wife sent copies of her US passport with the I-130. We had lived in London for 10 years and also had a house in the US. He can put his address as the London address and for where you will live in the US show his parents address. His US bank account etc show he is still maintaining his "residence" in the US.

When you return packet 3 to indicate you are ready for interview, if you do that before you visit the US, include with that a note to say you are visiting the US and the dates you will not be in the UK for interview. But I very much doubt even if you send the I-130 this week you will be ready for interview by October. Getting the I-130 approved is about 10 -12 weeks and then for apply for the visa and the interview is about 6 to 10 weeks after that.

You can travel to the US during this process but it is very prudent to be able to show the immigration officer at the airport that you are returning to the UK. Especially as the whole family will be with you.

This forum is great- you all have such a wealth of experience and knowledge between you...I'd be truly lost in all the paperwork if it wasn't for kind folks replying to my questions! Thanks guys.

We haven't filed yet because my (US) husband has realised he doesn't have a copy of his birth certificate....long story, lol! Does anyone know if he has to contact the hospital where he was born to obtain that?

He also has to address the US taxes situation.....as he hasn't been filing.....plus- contrary to what I originally told you. his US drivers licence expired about 4 months ago!! So, he's now thinking of making use of a business trip in early September to NJ and stopping off in NY to renew his drivers licence.

I think we will most likely still try to get out to NY in October for the family party, even though we will have filed the I-130 weeks before then; we'll have to be really well prepared like you said with documentation to prove that I am coming back to the UK.

Thanks for all the replies. This is really very exciting!

  15. [Has your husband been filing US tax returns? If not, he will need to speak to someone at the IRS or the embassy in London about backfiling as soon as possible. As long as he never made more than $80,000 USD or so in any year he didn't file, he won't be in any trouble or owe any taxes. But for any year he made over the minimum filing amount, he needs to have filed a tax return and 2555 foreign income exclusion. The IRS is surprisingly helpful though. :)

  16. My husband (USC) and I (British citizen) have been married for 16 years, living in the UK all that time. We now want to move back to the States with our 2 children (born in the Uk but with US passports too.)

My husband is about to file a DCF case in London, for the I-130 etc for me. The initial delay is that my British passport is about to expire and I am sending it off to be renewed, using the 2 week process. Once it is back he will file the DCF.

I hope someone can help with a couple of questions I have! Thanks in advance!

Firstly, if he files the DCF now, and it could apparently take 4-6 months for me to get the immigration visa, am I allowed to travel to the States on holiday during that time?

Lets say he files it on 26th August. We have long-standing plans to visit his family in the States for a family celebration in October. We also want to use this visit to look at where we will be living in the States and look at schools for the children. Will the US Embassy be holding onto my passport- or my husbands? Will I be allowed to travel to the US for the holiday (2 1/2 weeks) and will I need to prove that I will be returning to the UK? Is there a chnace that I could be called to the Embassy for an appointment during the time that I happen to be away in the States?!

Secondly, should my husband put his parents house in the US as 'his permenat address', or, since he is currently living in England and working here, should he put our UK address? He has a current US drivers licence and does get mail sent to him at his parents US home, including some kind of voting registration form. He also has an active US bank account. Does this help?

He does not yet have a job lined up in the States, although he is currently looking; can we still start the application?

Should he put down his UK income on the affidavit of support?

Should we get his father to be a joint sponsor for me?

We are really keen to get out there and have the kids in school as soon as possible- we know it won't happen before Christmas but is January/ February possible?....I know this is the million dollar question, how long is a piece of string, etc!!! Some of your applications seem to have taken quite a bit longer....

Thanks for your patience with all my questions, and for taking the time to read this!!! If anyone can help with some advice or answers I will really appreciate it! :star:
