Almost the same thing happened to my daughter's card. Full name had 28 letters (8+9+6+5), and they didn't print the last 2 letters from middle name.

Never solved that, until she was 17 and we (parents) became citizens back in 2020 and dropped our 2nd last names.
Before getting her a U.S. passport, I filed a name change case in court to drop her 2nd last name. Then used the court letter to update her last name with the local SSA office (a nightmare, as they misplaced the envelope with U.S. passport for months!)

New SS card came with valid full name (8+9+6).

Even if it was related, no point paying for a social security card since SS cards are free.  
 

Get their U.S. passports and passport cards.
 

When the  passport cards arrive whether  or not the SS cards arrive,   use the passport cards to get new SS cards.

 

You have to do that even if you get SS cards automatically because the first set of SS cards will be recorded as belonging to LPRs.  They need SS cards recorded as belonging to U.S. Citizens. 

I totally agree. Get them US passports (must ship both parent's citizenship certificate), then apply for their SS cards. (I did that for my daughter. Just beware of sending passport over mail to SS office. I did that back in 2020 due to pandemic. Envelope got misplaced between boxes in local SSA's front desk for months! A total nightmare.)
And then consider applying for their Application for Certificate of Citizenship (N-600). Expensive, but will help them to get their passports in the future without relaying on their parent's citizenship certificates, and other potential issues.
