  1. I can imagine - when family is involved, you can't really say no to him. Hang in there, call USCIS relentlessly and at least try to get a date. In the mean time get proof that his mother is sick and any other evidence he can get. Find something to occupy his time to make the days fly by faster. If she's literally on her death bed and can pass any day, I would let him go. Then come up with plan B (like living in a different country where the system isn't so messed up).
  2. Definitely apply for an expedite with AP - when we did back in June, case got approved in a week and the combo card came in the mail about 5 weeks later. I know every case is unique and every agent is different, but we weren't asked for evidence either (although we had it).
  3. For many of us, work is a part of life. Not in the American way of “work harder longer faster” but rather if we enjoy the things we do, the careers we’ve been training all our lives for, I find it inhumane to not allow one to work legally. My wife has been waiting about 7 months for EAD/AP now, its been a struggle. Summer has been good to us but winter in the midwest just makes people that much more depressed. If you’re in a business mood and handy like myself, I don’t see why you couldn’t buy/rehab/sell stuff from Goodwill/ebay/restore/local shops. Heck, rehab a house if you have the money. See if your fiance has any friends/family that need something painting or new flooring put in. Volunteer work is great to meet new people - can also join sports clubs/teams. If you don’t like people, animal shelters are your best bet 😉 Hope that gives you some ideas!
  4. The wait will test your patience, how strong you are as a person and even the love you have for one another. If the budget allows for it, make trips to see each other in a new country or place that allows both your passports. Or better yet, move to a different country where you can both stay 3-6 months. We applied in Nov 2019. Fiancé finally moved to the states in October ‘21, nearly 2 years of waiting - and now we’re still waiting for her GC interview. You haven’t waited long - do what you can that is in your control. Learn about the next steps and get docs ready, organized pdf’s on your computer. Plan trips, watch movies/documentaries and discuss, focus on the positives as best you can. Wishing you both a quick & painless acceptance!
