  1. So, because I'm gonna be pretty bored tonight.. I'm letting you all know I'm probably going to add another column onto our MTL spreadsheet.... oooooh sooo exciting!!

but I won't tell you what it'll be!!

(seriously though, if MTL doesn't help me out soon... I'm going to go crazy.gif)

check back tonight for the latest addition to our spreadsheet!!

PS. how often do you guys actually check the spreadsheet online? Is it bookmarked on your computer? Do you compulsively check it two to three times a day knowing that nothing really is changed cuz "I haven't heard from MTL.. but who knows??!@ Maybe Liz got an email about my case directly from MTL.. so I should check :innocent:.. just to be safe "

I can't even find the spreadsheet. Will your new column be doric, ionic or corinthian? :P I look at the embassy reviews obsessively, hoping for good vibes or something that might prove to be useful down the road. In the meantime I try to be silly, since the alternative is an ulcer at the very least. I know it sounds crazy but we all have our methods of coping with the stress. It shouldn't be stressful, the interview is bound to come sooner or later but with all the things the USCIS and NVC have done, one can't help but feel more than a bit concerned. I'm a bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to these things, but that's how I am.

I actually would love to post Mom and Dad's timelines on the spreadsheet (not really sure how to do this), mind you as IR5s things might be a bit different. I don't phone Portsmouth twice a week anymore, I tried Montreal a couple of times but fell asleep waiting for someone to pick up.

  2. Debbie, keep us updated on your situation. I think a lot of people could learn from this. I'm sure there are lots of people in the same situation. Hopefully you'll get everything approved in a timely manner. Good luck! :)

(sorry I have no information for you, just wanted to give you some online support!)

Your support is just as important to me, thanks so much for it.

I shall keep all updated in the hope our situation helps others. If I see out there any questions we can answer, based on our experience, I would be pleased to help as best as I can. We have done a LOT of research with respec to our situation (getting a child of a USC into the US with citizenship), but of course every situation has its own twists and turns..... Nonetheless we all learn from each other, right?

    Well said.

I knew that there was a residency requirement for the petitioner but I couldn't remember how it operated for teenage beneficiaries.

Before you spend the $100 you might try some of the many lawyers that offer free consultations on the web, just to get a few opinions. You've done your homework so you should be able to maximize you results during the consultations.

Please do keep us updated. Bonne chance!

  3. They have computer systems that connect to each other, I'm sure. If you don't have enough "ties" then they will tell you what else you can bring to prove yourself. Go home, get them and try again. Tunnel or bridge, some officers are really nice, some are really mean!

hmmm, heres a thought. What if the officer I get at the Ambassador bridge feels I don't have sufficient proof of "ties to Canada"? Perhaps I could go over to the tunnel, and try there? Cause isn't it subjective to each officer?

I have been through the find the "nice" officer game. Refused at Blue Water, admitted at the Ambassador Bridge. Port shopping only comes into play if you do not admit the earlier refusal. Finding the nice officer these days is becoming a real nightmare. The admission is at the discretion of the particular officer. Realistically a refusal frequently means that the subject bears the mark of Caine. Additional documentation guarantees nothing, it can help (if the officer hasn't made up his or her mind)but the only thing that really helps is the I-551 stamp. It's a tragedy and an outrage but what can you do?

  4. =) I know

    So bring it!!! angry007.gif

PS. Montreal's response to my email: "Not yet. Thank you"

I'd love to bring it, unfortunately senescence has set in and I can't remember where I put it. I really love the smiley.

I can't believe MTL used "thank you" in the e-mail. They don't even address me, just type in answers on my sent e-mail. I hope that's a good omen. :innocent:

  5. Have you been a USC all your life? I could be completely wrong here, but I believe that any child born to a USC is automatically granted citizenship. I'd go to the embassy again and ask....

I thought that was the rule unless the USC has not lived for a certain number of years in the US. I thought that little proviso did not apply to minors of USC. Maybe the law has changed?

  6. back in U.S...................................thanks for all info....................good luck

p.s....................TRANSFER TO VANCOUVER, IT IS EASY. ALL YOU NEED IS ADDRESS IN WESTERN CANADA.!!!!!!!!!!

I only wish IR5s could go to Vancouver. BTW, Congrats!!!!!

  7. My two pepper plants are full of peppers! Hungarian hot wax peppers to be precise (they're only "medium hot"). Should be harvest time in a couple of weeks. Fall flowers are now selling at the garden centres too so I'm going to get a bunch to replace some of my summer annuals that aren't doing so great right now.

And it's not melt-on-the-spot hot outside anymore which is nice.

Err, I have nothing else to add except I'm making biscuits for dinner tonight.

Oh my cats are driving me crazy. No wait, this is supposed to be positive stuff right? Okay, my cats make me laugh.

I saw some disco belles ( I really like disco belles!) on sale at the home depot. Too bad I don't have that much time these days to look after the garden, most of my bananas, papayas, passifloras, etc. are gone. I'm down to a few figs, one big frangipani and some small cuttings I brought back from Florida.

I love my cats, skf;sj;jswng;m 432423429 especially when they try to help me type on the keyboard.

  8. I'm not ready to feel like I am auditioning for Canadian idol.

 Good a good chuckle out of that one

I hope you will hear from them!

I hear you on the job application thing. I have been looking for work since August 15th, and have made about 20 applications so far. One if them is really getting on my nerves. Its a job that I meet 90% of their requirements and I applied when I saw the job posted in the first time at the end of july. They told me the job was filled. Then 2 weeks later they posted the exact same job. Sent them an e-mail again and got an answer saying it was filled and the e-mail of the supervisor if I wanted to ask myself....Which I did. She told me the job was filled. Then THIS WEEK, the SAME job got posted again....I e-mailed her again and she said no we are not looking for that anymore but for a supervisor...

So right now I feel the need to post her the link so she could read it herself cause they don't seem to know what they are doing.... That's stupid.

Memphys, I worked for an "organization" that did the same thing quite frequently (no, it wasn't the government) and I really need to wonder if you'd want to put up with that kind of insanity. Was the company located on rue de caca by any chance?

Thetreble, if your brother makes it on the Hershey Bears and then gets called up by the parent club (Capitals) who will you cheer for? At least the Caps aren't in the same division as the Devils.

  9. I am a USC living in Canada. I just bought a home in US and intend to live there as my principal residence. My 15-year old son wishes to live with me there; he is presently in Canada, was born in Canada and does NOT have any right to US citizenship at this point. I filed an I-130 at the Embassy in Ottawa and await a response from Montreal.

I have an information bulletin from USCIS dealing with I-130 petitions; it poses and answers the question of whether my son can wait in the US until becoming a permanent resident. Part of the stated answer is "if your...unmarried child under 21...is already in the US aftern having entered legally....and applies for permanent residence when you file your petition, then he/she may, with certain exceptions, remain in the US while we proces their application for permanent residence". My research suggests that this is based on section 245(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

My question is simple: what does "entered legally" mean? For example, if I move to my US home, and if my son then presents himself at the border for inspection and indicates that he wishes to enter to visit me at my US residence, and if he is premitted to do so, has he then lawfully entered the US and can he then immediately submit an application for change in status, coupled with a copy of the NOA from Montreal? If he were to do so, would he be allowed to remain with me in the US until his I-130 is granted?

I am NOT interested in doing anything illegal, but my son and I would rather wait this out in the US, so he can move ahead with school, etc.

Entered legally means that he crossed the border in the normal manner. You state that your son does not have a right to US citizenship, but he is in the IR2 (immediate relative category) and can for apply for citizenship when he crosses the border. He should try to enter at the same time as you. I believe the rule is that children classified IR-2 (born in or out of wedlock) to a parent who is now a U.S. citizen, provided the child will be admitted to the United States while still under age 18 and will be in the physical custody of the U.S. citizen parent at the time of admission becomes a US citizen upon entrance. Since you are a US citizen and he is under 16, I believe that he may not need anything other than the I-130 to become a US citizen. I don't recall if he even needed the I-130 as a minor applicant. Maybe someone here knows more about this area of immigration procedure.

Very helpful, thanks. Actually, I didn't want to muddy the water with the citizenship thing but my understanding is that the MINUTE my boy's feet hit US soil as a LPR then he instantly acquires citizenship (given his age, his mom is US born, he resides there as LPR). So my belief is that once the I-130 is granted (we need that to acquire LPR status) and my boy is in the US, then his immigration issues are a part of his past!

So the big thing that I was worried about was the "lawful enter" thing. My boy has been crossing almost daily because he practices with a football team in the US, so I have no doubt they'll let him in; I think all the local Customs officers know him on sight (and at 6'4" and 258 lbs., he's hard to miss and the envy of all American football fans!). Is there any risk that authorities will try to force him to leave if he lawfully enters and immediately applies for change of status?

Again, thanks so much for the comment, it is very helpful.

I really can't see how ICE would ask a future NFLer (what position?) to leave since everything is flowing from your legal status. My mom is waiting for her Montreal interview so she can become a LPR. In fact in May 2005 they thought she was going to adjust status when we were in Maine so the only thing that I'm not too sure about in your case is if the delay in AOS processing will be an issue if you are not yet living in the US. For example, if he keeps crossing the border and applies for AOS I'm not sure if that will be an issue or not if he continues to cross on a daily basis. I don't think it will be a problem but I don't really know.

  11. Daisylynn, did it even have a seal on it? Did the health unit tell you how you could get a copy of the official report? Mom knows best I guess but I always thought they check with the family doctor/pediatrician to verify. They do in Toronto I know that.

Misa, did Dr. Seiden do the physical or was it his assistant Dr. Nick Riviera? Why did he ask you to turn your head and cough? Did you get any treatment for your ongoing case of bonus eruptus?

Liz, please let us know all the gory details of your physical with the good doctor.

  12. Better to be silly than angry. Everybody is stressed out so if a bit a of humour can lighten the mood I'm all for it. American population density is the same as the rest of the world, some people are quite dense while other are fairly astute. Pooing on the know-it-alls might be a bit difficult, especially if they move. :)

  13. When I went for my medical (Dr. Seiden's), all I had was a letter from my doctor, bad photocopies of vaccination sheets from Women's College Hospital (she's a GP there) and titre test results. Looked pretty ghetto. Erm... as others have read about my non-invasive medical at Seiden's, she just asked if I had brought records and barely looked at my stuff and checked off that I had everything except for the ones that weren't age appropriate...

Seiden is trying to get you to think and act like an American by taking a relaxed attitude toward work. I understand the Ny Mets are his favourite squadron:)

  14. So I just got my EAD and even though I am waiting a few week to apply for an SSN, I started to apply for some jobs.

The New Jersey Devils are debuting their 2007-2008 season in a brand new rink in Newark, NJ. Because of the new arena, there are 100 + jobs that have opened up. So I heard on tv about this and was like...hmm... I wouldn't mind working there!! So I applied for a plethora of administrative assisstant jobs. (ie. assistant to director of operations) and was quite pleased with myself. I figure, I've got my B.A. and a lot of office experience so I should at least get an interview. I'm also pretty experienced in hockey as far as my knowledge and contacts. My little brother starts his pro career this year after finishing in the QMJHL last year (first try out is with the AHL team the Hersey Bears on Sept. 18th) and my oldest brother just finished playing in the Southern Pro hockey league down in Georgia earlier this year. I played myself growing up as well as ringette. (yes thats right, ringette. a truly Canadian sport) So pretty much just grew up around this game and love it to death. So would love to get into the devils organization somehow.

Today on the news they were doing a story about how the new Prudential Centre (as they are calling it) is having a 2 day job fair which started yesterday. At the job fair, every one is entitled to an interview. I thought...Oh well, I have already submitted my resume and everything. Then I heard they had over 3,000 people show up. I mean it is Newark, NJ, which is the biggest city in New Jersey and probably has a staggering unemployment rate. But still....there are probably a thousand people applying for the same jobs I applied for. Not so sure about that interview now! Sacre Bleu!

Sorry, I think my web browser is taking Friday off. I'm sure that you'll get the job, after all someone's got to be Martin Brodeur's backup. :)

  16. This post won't be of much help, but every time I hear the term "CBC," I think of the medical version (complete blood count) instead of the media version (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).

I guess your favourite show must be Friday Night LYTES. :)

  17. I have permission to go to the States after a denial at the consulate, leaving tomorrow afternoon crossing at the peace bridge. I went to the airport in Ottawa and was told I could get a parole from them to enter the States also but the price of flying right now is too much for us so I am going by bus. there was no question about my bringing proof coming back just a reason for wanting to go to the States.

    Glad to hear it.

  18. The is what they sent us when we called for my husband's vac. record. There is no name of who administered the shot or anything 'official.' I think somoene else on here said this is the same thing they got and it was ok but I just want to make sure.

Will this pass for his vac. record? Will they ask to see more? We have another card from a more recent tetanus shot. But other than that, this is all we have.

    Thanks!

    Tammy

    IMGa-1.jpg

Should be OK. I have seen one's where nobody could figure out what name was signed so I don't think this is an issue. My immunization record has no phone number and a scribble for a name. Was it on yellow card stock or did they just give you a photocopy? BTW, who sent you this document? A doctor's office or public health or ???? The panel physician is the ultimate arbiter of whether this is acceptable or not, but I really can't see a hassle with this. Have you picked out the doctor who will do the physical? From what I've heard most immigration physicals are pretty lax. When Grandma got hers done in 1970 (Chuck Harnick's (remember him?) old man was the doctor) it was about the same. Some doctors are pretty lazy so they don't fill out all the sections completely. My parents' physician knew why they were getting the shots so he made sure that the form was filled out completely.

  19. You shouldn't have to worry too much about your credit rating. The only thing that would affect it, is the hard inquiry that they would have done. Yes, it does 'hurt' your score, but not in a giant sense...and as long as you haven't been applying for many credit cards/loans in a short period of time, one hard inquiry on your credit file isn't that bad. It's when you get 10, 12, 20 inquiries that companies think hard and long before giving you more credit.

When you go to RBC, or call them, ask them to remove the inquiry based on the fact that you didn't give them permissible purpose to do the hard pull of your credit report. And technically you didn't. You didn't sign anything to state that you gave permission for them to do this. They should remove the inquiry. If they don't, I would dispute the inquiry with whomever they pulled (probably Equifax...but they should tell you). Otherwise, if they don't, it stays on your report for 2 years, and as time goes by on it, it becomes less and less of a factor in your score. (we're talking maybe 10-15 points here)

The fact that you were denied will not show up on your report and has no bearing on your credit score.

I have been doing a lot of research on credit for the past year and a half, so while I'm no expert, I do have some experience in what happens in your report and your score.

Hope this has helped a little!

I know what you are saying is 100% true. I just got a big fat loan and everything you say is totally vaild. With so many people getting screwed over in their credit ratings, I agree with trailmix. This is a great post. I also hope that at least once a year (maybe even twice a year) people remember to get a copy of their credit report to make sure there are no irregularities or errors.
