  1. Hello, people! Thought I'd say hi another Turkish k-1 filer here. I've had a look at the posts related to Turkey, and it seems like the Turkish beneficiary is usually male? o_O It's interesting reading the stories of those that have managed to go through with the process. Makes me think about potential problems with adjusting... Our process is in the NOA2 stage, we've just received approval on the 15th. Pretty quick. I can't help but expect a late RFE or something. Sure hope not... also pretty clueless about Packet 3, I think we'll end up waiting for the consulate to send us the list before starting to collect anything...

Congrats on your NOA2. You must be pretty excited by now. I also get the impression that most Turkish beneficiaries in this thread are male, but not so for me and my Turkish wife. Anyway, best of luck dealing with the consulate in Ankara and beyond. It will be a cinch.

  2. I hope everybody is doing well. I haven't stopped by here for a really long time. Everything is going well for us here. Handan is almost 5 months pregnant now and in a couple of weeks we hope to find out if it's a boy or girl. VJ sent me an email about some site improvements so I wanted to come by to check them out. We went to the Turkish embassy in Los Angeles a couple of months ago to register our marriage and that was an interesting experience. It's in a highrise office building and there are no lines or anything. We went in, talked to the guy at the counter, paid our money, and left :)

The Anatolian festival is coming in May if anybody is in the area. We'll probably check that out.

  3. Sibel - You deserve to have everything you have dreamed of and you will, I truly believe that. Everything will fall into place for you. You are wonderful!

Kenny and Handan - Congratulations on the Green Card!

Onur and I finally sent in his AOS packet today. How long did it take all of your spouses to get their work permit?

I am still job hunting and waiting to hear back from a few schools. They are waiting to hear if they will have the funding to hire me! Onur is thinking about going to cosmetology school and training to become a professional hair stylist/cosmetologist. He's looking into the Aveda Institute and a Paul Mitchell School. We'll have to wait until he has his green card so we can apply for financial aid/student loans. Who knows, maybe I will never have to pay for another hair cut again! ;)

Good job getting your package sent out. I'd expect a 2-3 month wait for Onur's EAD card. Ours would have been sooner but we got RFE'd on why my wife had a different last name on her passport even though we sent our marriage certificate. We sent the marriage certificate again and they approved it. B)

  4. Hi everybody,

I am sorry I have been misssing in action on this forum. I have had a rough time lately. We have been having marriage problems for a long time and I think it is time we thought about ending the marriage. I am not going to Turkey to visit him this summer since it seems like neither one of us knows how to fix our marriage, nor really wants to. We don't have the money, he doesn't have the time, and we will just extend the inevitable, because we are trapped in limbo and are both unhappy. It has just been too much time apart, growing in different directions, not being able to get to know the person 7000 miles away, etc. It is hard to read every day about people getting visas, getting married, and getting pregnant when these are the very things I have dreamed about for so long and now are just not going to happen for me. I have made some good friends on Visajourney, so I will continue to check in to see how everybody is doing from time to time, but I probably won't be throwing my commentary in too much. I wish you all wonderful lives and know that all will fall into place for all of you!

I'm incredibly sorry it's been so difficult for you :(

  5. Handan's green card arrived in the mail today. No more waiting or paperwork until 2011! :)

Congrats to you two! Wasn't Handan pregnant? I forget with all of these pregnancies going around!

Good memory :) We, unfortunately, are no longer expecting.

Kennyandhandan I do not want to pry with what that means, but I am sorry :( Well, hopefully everything all works out (L)

However, congrats on that green card!! Hamit and I just files on the 11th for his. At least now you can rest assured there are only one or two more times you have to deal with USCIS in the next decade or so!

Where is everyone?? I feel so lonely

    :blink::whistle::dance::help::alien::crying::protest::cry::pop:

debresul...how is baby Mehmet? I didn't know camiinistanbul moved to Ca...I am from there...how do you like the people? lol At least, like you said, there is a Turkish community there! Poor Hamit is waiting these lonely months out alone wile I am at work! He is doing well though and studying his English. He had quit smoking before he got here and so cooking has been his obsession now

I wonder if Sibel is ok?

No problem... we're going to keep trying. We had a miscarriage in December.

I was wondering about Sibel too.

  6. The cheapest and easiest way I have found to send money is through Moneygram, though I have never had a reason to send money to Philippines. Sign up for their rewards card and their already low fee gets lower the more times you use their service. I regularly send 300-600 dollars at a time and pay $8-something for each transfer.

  7. Hey Kenny! We haven't heard from you in a long time! How are you and Handan doing?

Hi Sibel. We're doing well. Our AOS interview is coming up pretty soon and we've just been running around a bit lately getting SSN, state id, and stuff like that. Good to hear that you had a vacation recently. Hang in there. I hope everybody is doing good.

  8. ErikaAndHamit,

It was explained to me at our local office that in order to be issued an SSN as a K1 visa holder, it must be applied for after entering the country but before marriage. After getting married the K1 visa no longer applies and you have to wait until the EAD card is received. We found that out too late because we were already married when we went to the office to apply for the SSN. Sure enough, we took my wife's EAD card to the office the same day she received it and we weren't there more than 10 minutes before the SSN was ordered. We were kicking ourselves for like 5 months for not visiting the Social Security office first :)

  9. There's an Iranian consulate in Trabzon I'm pretty sure. That would be an awesome place to visit I think. Unfortunately, I've not been there nor any place in that vicinity. The closest I can come to a personal recommendation is Alanya or Antalya for scenery and cost. There's not an Iranian consulate, but there's an American one and you'll probably be travelling through one of the other major cities to get to and from there anyhow. We had our wedding party in my wife's hometown near Alanya and it was awesome, but it was a family affair. A huge family affair, but a family affair nonetheless.

Edit to add: I got married on a K1 visa in USA so I don't have any information on the paperwork aspect. Sorry. My wife had her birth certificate and police records translated in Alanya in a very short period of time for about 80 lira.

I don't know about Iran, but American consulates are in Istanbul and Izmir or the embassy in Ankara. As far as scenic, Ankara is not that nor is it very affordable and it is pretty darn cold if you are getting married in the Winter. Have you checked on the Internet yet for packages? Go with the packages, do yourself a favor with all the planning!
