  1. Social Security says after 2 years, you'll have to provide additional documentation of your name change - not sure what that is, perhaps documents w/ said name change.

Changing a name or not changing a name doesn't really make a difference as far as proving a bonafide marriage, IMO - and from what I've read. Anyone can change their name, doesn't make said marriage real. And just as true, someone can choose to keep their family name and that doesn't make their marriage fake.

On a side note: VIVA PERU!

The name changing indeed does not affect your real intentions when you got married, however, why to give them a reason to ask you why you didnt change your name, especially if you really want to change it.

Let me add to your side note: ...AJO!!! ;) ;)

Best luck in your interview, may the force (and papa Dios) be with you!!!

  2. To change your name you just have to show your marriage certificate. I have read that name changes are not challenged when you can pull the names from your previous maiden name and your husbands family name. The process should start with your social security card (if you have one) then IDs, DL, bank accounts, etc. There is no other procedure. I asked my mother in law and she said thats it. So thats what I did :D

I read somewhere else that there is a period of one year after the marriage to change names, but don't quote me on this one since I don't remember where I got that from.

I think it is better to start the AOS process with your married name since that helps to proove you have a bonafide marriage, besides, you save the $$ in changing a GC later, if you intend to change your family name of course.

    Best luck

Edited to add: Congratulations Jashley, may God bless your marriage! :)

  3. We had no A number on the I-94. At the info pass appointment we were told my husband may or may not have one, but we found it on the NOA2.

If there is something to be said to describe the USCIS work it would be not standarised... I myself have found a lot of information that somehow didn't "apply" to us or didn't happen to us in the same way...

Just noticed we have biometrics the same day, don't forget to check the "beauty" status before having your picture taken ;)

    Best luck

  4. Birdisboy, they never give you your SS# the first day you apply. If you have problems getting your card, or need your SS# before the card arrives, you can go back and ask them for the number itself. They will print out a report from their system. It has two pages stapled together. In the second page it will read:

"OUR RECORDS INDICATE THAT SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ###-##-#### IS ASSIGNED TO XXX,XXX,XXX "

That report does not replace your social security card, but contains the number you are looking for.

    Good luck

  5. Hi there

No touches for us since March 29th. No RFE emails either.

Thanks! I'll be checking my bank account and mailbox with much anticipation then. :)

I am in charge of checking emails and the mailbox and do it religiously every afternoon so I can have the USCIS letters first! Before the appointment letter arrived I would say a rats! when there was nothing from them, now, I say an uff! when I dont find a RFE letter. Can I be blamed of obssessive behavior or something like that?

    Good luck

    Jess

  6. You guys seem to be touched all over and we don't. I just see the message of having received the application and the next step is biometrics, period. I want to cry!!!

It seemst hey generally get sent to missouri and from there it can go to your local office or to CSC if your local office is swamped, it may still get transfered back to your local office again.
