Yes, when interview is set, the online status will change to "scheduled for interview" with text/email notification (if signed up).

@blessed .. yes .. she was pretty nervous thats for sure. somebody said rescheduling takes like more than 2 months, no idea on validity of that assumption.

just to throw my two cents in here, my wife has already had her interview (4-19) and we are waiting for the oath ceremony letter now. Our online case status still says she is "scheduled for the interview". It is my experience that the online updates are not reliable because at least one of our previous filings took a year or so to be updated to show it was approved even though that process was already completed. :wacko:

Officially a USC! I was sworn in with 133 people representing 42 countries. It was a quick ceremony and our friends and families were allowed in the courtroom with us. Very proud to be an American after having been in the US for 22/25 years of my life. Momentous.

my wife passed the interview with flying colors! :thumbs:

The process was fast and painless. It took less than 10 minutes from when they called her for the interview to the time we left the building!

When back with the officer, she had to swear to state the truth. She was asked if she supported the US constitution. She was then asked 7 questions, which she answered correctly. Those were (not in any particular order:

What is freedom of religion?

How many U.S. Senators are there?

What are two rights of everyone living in the United States?

When was the Constitution written?

What ocean is on the West coast of the United States?

What ocean is on the East coast of the United States?

Name one state that borders Canada.

For her reading test she had to read "What do we pay to the government?" Then she had to write the answer "We pay taxes".

Unfortunately, the officer could not tell us when the oath ceremony would be and that the letter would come in the mail. He said it could be May or in June. (That is unfortunate for us becasue my wife wanted to travel back to Ukraine in May and we cannot make any plans for it--or even know if we can go.)

congrats to all successful new citizens! My wife has her interview on Thursday and I do not think they perform same-day oath ceremonies in Indianapolis. She is nervous, but I KNOW she is ready. EB stands for Early Biometrics .... these are the people who walked-in a field office earlier than scheduled biometrics date in biometrics letter received from NBC.

I am with the same concern too .... I have a scheduled out of country visit on end of may. I guess my interview will be scheduled before that (my resident since date is March 20) and hopefully the oath too. The problem is on oath we need to turn in our green card and receive the naturalization certificate and use that to apply for passport. I am afraid I wont have enough time to 1. get the new passport, 2. get new visa (or NVR-'No Visa Required' stamp on the passport from embassy) before my vacation on may.

ahh..thanks for explaining EB. We will have no trouble traveling but hate to miss or delay any long-awaited appointments!

I also have not seen anything on the biometrics for my wife and my guess is because it has only been about 12 months now since her last ones. I checked and her residency date is April 9th so I assume she will not be able to be interviewed prior to that date. (Is that the date listed as "EB" on some of the timelines below?) My only concern is we are planning a possible trip back to Ukraine in May and I do not want to have any schedule conflicts with this process.

Am I the only one who hasn't received FP letter yet??? I know I have read that some people doesn't get FP if they have theirs taken within a year of applying for N-400.... if so... I wish USCIS would refund me for the $80 for BIOMETRICS.... lol only in my dreams right!?

Looking at your timeline on your signature, you didn't get your NOA in hand until Feb 7th. It's only been 10 days. As you can see on most timelines for people who have gone through that step, it can take longer. Just keep checking the website for updates(unless you signed up for updates via email/text) and I'm sure you'll get a notice soon.

I am going by my email NOA which came sooner. I am not concerned if we do not get a biometrics notice and go straight to interview. I would be happy if she does not have to go down there twice.

just an update here..still no letter for a biometrics interview 2 weeks after the NOA. The last update to the case number was the note that they that they received the N-400 and sent us a letter. The rest of the note is their form letter. I guess we can still see a bio letter, so we continue to play the immigration waiting game. :innocent:

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators.

If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or photographs taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule. Occasionally, you may receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints taken when you have filed a form other than those listed above. In these situations, you may receive your appointment notice more than 30 days after submitting your application or petition.

Biometrics was not mentioned in ours either (January), but we still got a letter later. Some people aren't sent to biometrics if they did it within the last 15 months.

Great initiative on your part for helping your wife. The study guide they gave us at biometrics has the 100 questions, answers, and an audio CD that reads the question followed by the answers.

It has been less than 12 months since her last biometrics, at this point...very close to 1 year, though. We will cheerfully do whatever they instruct us to do! :innocent:

It is great that they provide an audio CD, too. I know it has to sound better than the one that I made for my wife, but I know it meant a lot to her. She said the first time she listened to it, she heard 2 or 3 questions and was confused, thinking she knew that voice. She had not realized that I had actually made it for her; she thought I had downloaded it from somewhere. Once she realized that it was my voice, she said that her reaction was "OH! That is my Honey!" and then smiled the rest of the day at work.

Many times it is not the quality of the job but the effort behind it that counts the most. :thumbs:

Oral test - the interviewer will ask questions from those 100 civics questions - all your wife has to do is answer 6 questions right out of 10. So if she misses first two and then keep answering right, she will be asked 8 in total.

Btw, biometrics and receipt are two different NOAs, I got them on the same day in diff envelopes. You can see in this thread and others, a lot of people got them on diff days. First the receipt, then biometrics. My parents go them 3-4 days apart.

I will have to make some kind of shortcut (mental tricks) of remembering those civics questions for my dad and mom - since they struggle with those. I will try to post them here too - though I am sure nobody here 'need' those

When I first went through the civics materials I was reading a multiple choice document and I still missed a handful out of 100. When I took it as a fill-in-the-blank, i did much worse! I guess it is because a lot of that I studied in school about a 100 years ago and have forgotten most of it! hahaha Now, after working on them with my wife, I am confident that I could probably get in the mid-90% range if asked orally. (my memory is not as good as it used to be :whistle: )

congrats to all the successful applicants! My wife received the NOA email last week and then the hard copy in the mail yesterday. What I found interesting is the hard copy did not mention biometrics at all, and said something like "once we review your documents and application, your interview appointment will be scheduled". Is it me or is it odd that biometrics were not mentioned? They definitely cashed my check that paid for them so it is not a big deal! If my memory serves me correctly, the other NOA notices along this immigration trail mentioned the biometric appointment would be scheduled. As another note, we have been fortunate on the previous steps and my wife has never had to go to an interview. ;-)

For those who have been interviewed for the N-400, what was the civics test like? Was it an oral or written test? If written, was it multiple guess or fill in the blank? My wife is proficient in English so that part will not be of concern for her. Last fall I downloaded the PDF from the website that had all 100 questions from which they are supposed to pull the questions for the interview. I then made an MP3 file for my wife by reading each question and then supplying the correct answer. She has it on her MP3 player now and will listen to it from time to time while working. I designed it to work along with the PDF file so one can listen to the file on the computer and read the question in the file at the same time, but it works fine alone, too. We also put it on a CD and played it on our car when we took a trip to Texas last November for a wedding and she did very well on it. Her biggest difficulty is with names of politicians. My brother's wife is from Peru and next year they will be filing the N-400 and he plans on using my file, as well.
