Uli Mey reacted to Pika2019 in Kiev - Original Documents VS Copies for Interview
I have been trying to schedule appointment for a month, last time I saw appointments available was last month that showed the closest available appointment was on 15th of November, I didn’t schedule because I hadn’t done all documents that I need. After that, i thought it would be possible to make appointment this month, I decided to finish all the documents as soon as possible to make appointment, so on 20th of October I started looking at the schedule appointment, of course it keeps showing there is no available appointment, then on 13rd of Nov I got the message as you showed.
Lately of Sunday I and my fiancé decided to send an email for requesting an expedited appointment and we just got approved in the evening today.
If you have a reason (no need about medical, emergency stuff), you can consider about expedited appointment before many people start doing it. (Try to use nice words to prove why you really need expedited appointment, don’t use some reasons like long time no see, we miss each other... everyone does, not only your couple 😉, then show them how you and your Fiancé appreciate it)

They spent over 45 min looking over my (american) financial paperwork with a fine tooth comb. They asked her a lot of questions from that but i can't remember what they were/nor does she. (was a real stressful day for her). Interview was almost 3 hours long start to finish.

We sent an email to the Embassy requesting to extend our expired I129-F form and the next day they replied and said that a request was added to our case. That's it.

After i woke up i asked her if she checked today but she said no because she was busy so i just randomly logged in. i got the notification once you're logged into that site that says " NEW APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE AS EARLY AS NOV 2" Then i clicked the schedule appointment button.

We started to look Oct 7 and no appointments until the one showed up at Oct 13th.

Yeah it was a lot of documents (in weight) I think she brought close to .7kg  worth of documents...again call me paranoid but i wasn't about to get denied because we're "missing" some documents. It was a pain in the ### for her to bring all that herself and i wish i was there to carry it all for her...but we just wanted to be sure.

We didn't know how they would pull documents and what order so i told her maybe it's better you create an "original" folder that they're going to ask for and then keep a backup copy of all those documents with you on the other side of the glass. The main thing they stressed with her our the financial documents so i would group those all together for them.

she started to hand over the original folder and he said "No....i will tell you what i need and you hand me ONLY that!" (he was a nice guy though)
Here's what our guy only asked from us:
    1. Her passport
    2. her Birth Certificate
    3. medical exam packet
    4. Police report
    5. Financial documents - I-134f, Taxes, W2, HR employment letter, bank statements, Property document
    6. DS-160 Confirmation page
    7. Printed 50mmx50mm pictures for passport

they had my financial documents probably close to 90 min with multiple people reviewing them.

The original folder had the 25+ documents but then she put a big clip on the financials so those were all together in that folder. The proof of relationship was 50 pages each...she made like a quick photo book out of them with regular paper.

she had like two big binders (not really folders) Plastic sleeves and slid the documents inside the plastic sleeves. The financials were clipped together and just placed inside the binder.

    No problem @Uli Mey!
    1. You will need case number in order to schedule medical exam. You can schedule interview w/o exam and you can schedule exam w/o interview scheduled (still need case number though). You will need your case number though in order to schedule both though( they print your case number on the medical exam docs after they are done). Case number is either from them sending you an email saying your case is ready to be scheduled (we got this email 3 days before our actual interview...super late LOL) or by calling the embassy and giving them your passport number and they can look it up and will give it to you over the phone. I would not bother them too much about that request though...my opinion. They did not ask her at the medical exam if you have an interview already scheduled...

    2. WOOHOO!!!! yeah that part super easy! Awesome!

    3. I would heed the same caution with calling them...because every time we called they requested the passport number, call me paranoid, but i felt like they were logging each call and what the call was in regards too.

Yes, very soon we will be buying ticket and she will be coming home to me!!! So excited! Thank you for the well wishes @Uli Mey. Prayers for you guys too on a super smooth journey!!!! Please keep me updated ❤️

yeah unfortunately the the 6 months starts with the medical exam. For instances she got her medical exam Oct 15 and her Visa (she actually got her Passport and Green light to come to the US today  ) says expires April 15.  From my understanding if they get "denied" for the I-129F expiration its just wasted time...it's not like they have to start all over again. You would have to leave embassy, have Petitioner send email about renewing expiration and then embassy will call you back again for another interview or approval. It just delays everything...it's definitely not the worse outcome leaving the embassy with a no or a administrative review like a 221G. it's just a pain in the butt that if we were told to just send the renewal email before hand it could essentially save us 1-4 weeks of waiting even more time.

There are some vaccines that are optional for entry but required before full citizenship. She needs a tetanus shot...that shot is optional for entry but required for citizenship so she's able to do that shot in the US with me, plus it's cheaper here.

Correct, you need to have medical exam before you go to the interview. I think if you can get lucky to schedule an interview an call the Dr office doing the exam in Kyiv for an appointment prior you might be able to do that. You do need the medical exam before you go to the interview but you don't need it to schedule the interview. It seems like medical exam appointments are way easier to get, at least for us it was.

this is where she went: ( i think there is only 2 places that do it)
    Medicom:
Medical examination for an immigration visa takes place at st. Vasily Tyutyunnik, 37/1 (formerly Anri Byurbusa, 37/1), Kiev, metro Palace Ukraine, landmark of the Prestige Hall LCD, we are on the 1st floor.

You are correct,  I can't fix the document unfortunately after upload.   when you do #6 in that list up there you will be asked if you want to pick it up or have delivery service. After you get approved you will get white sheet of paper that says "YOU ARE APPROVED!!! " and then it will give you detail info like in my document who to call if there is an issue.  you should be good if you've already made it pass #6 and selected passport delivery/pickup.

Yeah, if you have a document in another language other than those 3, then yes translated to English is what we were told too for that one document.

She said the medical exam was easy. They checked temperature but didn't test for Covid. They did an X-ray of chest, took blood pressure, they drew blood, and they tested urine. Their focus was looking over your vaccine list and making sure your lungs were clear...that's what they stressed with my fiancé. The blood worked was supposed to take overnight but after she left she got an email and a call probably about 1-2 hours later saying blood was good. She had to fly to Kyiv for interview so she flew in 2 days prior to the interview to pickup the 2 medical exam groups of papers...i think she said the documents are ready after 3-5 days, her interview wasn't for another 2 weeks after her medical exam so they just sat at the office waiting for her pickup. Here's another tip...The medical exam is the key piece of expiration for wherever you go (destination). you have 6 months from your medical exam and then your visa for entry will expire. I would plan 2-3 weeks in between medical exam and an attempt to get an interview...but again this is up to luck ALSO it's up to the government if they shut down again (which i hope not! ) If you get the medical exam on say Nov 15...i would give yourself the 2 weeks in case you in need to get vaccines sorted out or any health issues that could arise from their findings from their tests. if you're certain Vaccine list is good for what they need then shoot maybe for a dec 1 interview. Again...if you go to medical exam nov 15, and you can't get an interview until say Feb 15 ( i hope not!) then you still have until may 15 (roughly) before visa expires and you need to enter into the destination country.... all depends on date of completion of medical exam not when you go for interview....time starts at medical exam

They will give you  2 sealed medical exam group of documents. One will be in a white security type fold sealed with an official seal (do not open this) the embassy will take that one. The other is a clear plastic type folder where you will see a badly scanned document with your picture plus a CD included in that. That one is also not to be opened and you will need to that to give to officials when you get to your destination country as you walk off the airplane. Some vaccines you will need to do before you can continue over there at the embassy (interview) and some can be done in your country of destination (at least for America they allow some to be done here that you're missing). For us she was only missing one vaccine and she can do this one in America when she comes. It will need to be done prior to her interview in America for the final step of citizenship.

Awesome! Welcome on the approval of your first steps!!! ❤️ @sweetlana

Ok for us... we actually never even received NOA2. But here's the process for us. After 797, you should get a NOA2. I suggest your fiancé in Ukraine call the embassy about 2-4 months and ask if there is any update on status. I would be kind on the phone and only ask for updates (that's what we did)
When we did this...the lady on the phone provided us with our Case number. After you have your case number this when you can schedule your interview. we never received package from ukraine...and actually we already had our case number and would log into the website to check if appointments were available before embassy even notified us that our case was ready.  here's roughly what happened (sorry not good at explaining)

    1. March - filed I129f
    2. June - Got approval notice from lawyer - you can see this by going too https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do we never got a document though. just an email she said.
    3. August - She called embassy to ask for case number by providing her passport number (different then USCIS number) this case will start with KEV if you're doing yours in Kyiv. After getting your case number you can check its' status here (https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=o/iS8zDpeAKjMWCuebHqOw==) make sure to select the right option.
    4. August around the end we saw status changed to READY (can't remember date close to the end of the month)
    5. September - start doing your Ds-160  - https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/  -  I RECOMMEND BEFORE YOU'RE DONE...at the end it gives you like a "REVIEW" page of everything you've done. I would do print screen of each of those pages so you and your fiancé can go over the answers...some of the questions on this page were asked by the interviewer. Copy the confirmation page, download it, print it, email it...(everything) LOL
September 25 - still no package from embassy.
    6. https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/ApplicantHome    --- this is the MAIN site you want to check. Here is where you create a profile and put all your information and check to see if interviews are available. This is where you can find out before the embassy tells you. Now...you have to make sure that #4 says ready...your case i believe has to say ready in order to schedule an appointment. in Step #4 our case said ready so that's why we started going to this site.
    7. Once you log in on the left side it gave me a little notice like " INTERVIEWS AVAILABLE AS EARLY AS NOV 2ND!" when i logged in one day randomly i saw that and proceeded to go to the appointment calendar. That's when i was able to select my day and time. It only gave me one day option (nov 2nd) and there was only about 10 slots available, after 2 min the slots started to disappear as others were on the site taking appointments too...so you have to be fast)
    8. checklist is pretty simple - this is what we used  https://photos.state.gov/libraries/ukraine/181364/visa/kev1eng.pdf
    9. Make sure to have your fiancés financial documents perfect. We submitted 2 tax years (full), 2 w-2, Letter head of employment stating how long i've been working there including my yearly salary, any property you might have ( i did print screen of tax collector website for my county to show the house in my name), the most important i-134, copy of bank statements (just the front pages to show accounts and savings)
    10. Remember the I-129F form....expires 4 months after you submit it. Because of coronavirus and everything going on if your case is delayed you will need to make sure you send an email...the Petitioner in United states will have to send the email as they're the ones that created the I-129F form...KyivIV@state.gov   tell him/her to send email here and just say.

"My case number is this and i submitted my documents at this time. This is my passport number and my fiancé passport number...we would like to formally request an extension of our possibly expired I-129F form"
In a couple days you should get an email back from them saying we will add your request to your case. Make sure to do this before your interview. 2 people that day got RED page because everything was good except their I-129F form was expired and Petitioner in the US had to send an email to the embassy.

Yes, all of them were k-1's...some of them walked out crying and some of them didn't look too upset. my advice....bring supporting documents. Bring a book of pictures to show your relationship...our life for 2 years has been over the phone. Our holidays were spent on Whatsup video and we took screenshots of everything...us eating dinner together, us at Christmas, us at Thanksgiving dinner, us at new years with fireworks from 6000 km away.. i made two 40 page paper photo booths...all scanned photos. i took pictures of my passports visiting her and when we went on vacation. receipts of flowers i sent, receipts of hotels we stayed. I painted a picture of my last 2 years with this woman so she could give to a stranger and see what we did for 2 years....i spent days/weeks on it. There was no way they could deny us and honestly thats what you have to do i think. You have to prove to a random stranger that you are in fact legit.

In her interview he asked her What do you love about him and what do you hate about him....tell them, describe to them how your fiancé makes you feel (she did and it won them over...almost had the interview guy in tears) This has been an insane emotional rollercoaster for sure for both of us. In total she was asked about 20-30 questions...she can't remember she was a ball of stress.

I'm attaching our checklist that i modified for us...it's extensive LOL but you're free to use. again...this was serious for us and I wanted to make sure she was armed with everything possible because i've heard about 50 or more different stories and most of them have been scary. Also for the financial documents like the I-134...you can sign them and email them to the person in Ukraine, Embassy does not need original documents for the financial section they can all be copies. So don't worry about sending sensitive original to ukraine via postal service, financial documents can all be copies. If you have questions you can also email them directly

I think i should create a website on our journey and just point everyone to it. @sweetlana I hope this helps ❤️ Let me know if you have anymore questions!
