  1. I had my interview yesterday in Singapore and am so happy to report to that we got our visa!

Here's my short report which may be interesting for members from Singapore (I know, there are not many). Singapore recently switched to appointment processing. In the past you would drop off docs at 9am and go back at 2pm for the interview and I was pleasantly surprised when they conducted the interview simultaneously with document submission. I got there at 9am, was #3 on the list, got called at about 9.30, had the "first" interview, was asked to wait for my name to be called again, and then had a "second" interview with another officer. The second officer gave the visa approval and sent me back to the first officer to get the date for the collection, which is 7 days from the interview date. I left the embassy at about 10.30am.

The only slight hiccup I had was with my police certificate. I submitted 2 certs and one of them had been obtained in Sept 2007. The first officer told me that the certificate should not be more than 6 months old but of course, with all the wonderful advice I had picked up on Visajourney, I knew this was not the case. I was aware that some countries issue police certs with a validity of 6 months, but not the two jurisdictions where I got my certs from. So I very respectfully pointed out to the officer that the NVC's website specifically states that the police cert should not be more than 12 months old so a Sept cert should be fine. She was not impressed with my in depth knowledge on this subject! But anyways, when I was interviewed by the second officer, he asked me how soon I could leave the country and I said as soon as I got the visa. And he said "I'm going to grant the visa but if for some reason you are unable to enter the US before September you will have to get a fresh police cert" and that was it. Hurray!

I'm flying June 30 and cannot wait to see my husband!!! (L)

It's taken us almost a year from filing and it really would have been significantly shorter in our case if not for delays on our part. But we're not complaining, we are just happy that we finally have the visa. This board has been an incredible source of advice and support. Thanks so much to everyone!!!

  2. The NVC wants originals then completes it's case and sents us a embassy appointment letter directing us to their web site which says Ensure that all necessary original documents will be available at the time of the interview? Does this mean I have to get all those documents again? Or will we just need the passort, OF-230-I, OF-230-II, photos, and supporting evidence of relationship?

Nno one has answered this question yet. I am very interested in the answer as well, so just bumping this up a notch.

The last page of our appointment letter says "[name of beneficiary/applicant] must bring the following to the visa interview: Any original documents that were requested by the NVC but were not submitted to the NVC...." so I don't think you need to bring originals which you have already submitted with your DS230. In our case, I submitted a certified copy of our marriage certificate so I will bring the original with me for the interview. For police records, however, I submitted the originals so will not be obtaining fresh ones for the interview. I hope this is right! Good luck.

  3. Please add me! DS-230 entered into system on May 15.

However, my AOS was sent at the same time... do you think this will delay the processing? I hope not!

our AOS arrived at NVC at the same time as our DS230 too. there were many members round about that time who got their cases completed in 2-5 days. ours took 9 days. i'm not sure if that was because of the AOS but 9 days is pretty darn good too! ;)

  4. we called tuesday this week and were told the same thing, that they were done for may interviews and to call back next week to see if we get a june interview date. i took a break and didn't call yesterday (wed), decided to call today and we got a date! i'm sure you'll get yours very very soon now, if not tomorrow. good luck!

  5. Our case was completed Apr 30 and I was getting a tad bit concerned that our interview had yet to be scheduled but we got the good news today. Our interview will be on June 16th. I was so excited I kept thanking the NVC operator over and over until she was laughing. I was so hopeful though that we would get a May interview because June 1st is our 1st anniversary but I am just relieved that we are finally at the last stage.

Good luck to everyone who has an interview coming up!

  6. we submitted 2 affidavits with our I-130, one from my best-friend who was one of the first people who met my USC husband when we first started dating and the other was sworn by another girlfriend of mine who was a witness at our wedding.

    our format was simple:

    1. name of deponent (person swearing the affidavit), address, date of birth.

    2. deponent's relationship with me, the beneficiary, (the deponent can of course be the petitioner's friend/family member) and how long the deponent has known me.

    3. date when the deponent first met my USC husband.

    4. the deponent's observations about us as a couple (loving, committed, etc).

    5. deponent's knowledge about the marriage (when it took place, did they participate, describe the wedding briefly).

    6. both affidavits contained a penultimate paragraph which stated: "I am confident having known the Beneficiary for a long time that the marriage was based on a bona fide relationship and I hope that this Affidavit will facilitate the Beneficiary's immigration to the United States to enable her to be with the Petitioner."

    7. Both affidavits were notarised, one sworn in singapore, the other in the US.

    hope this is helpful!

  7. when my husband filled out the 1-864EZ, he put down his annual salary for this year, 2008. i think they want to know how much the USC's annual salary is for the current year to make sure that the current salary, whether earned already or not, is above the poverty guidelines. as for historical data, they will rely on the figures the USC puts down for the past 3 tax years but you only need to submit your tax returns for the latest tax year.

i don't know if they will require a joint sponsor just because the annual income was less than 125% in 2005. maybe you want to call the NVC and ask? or hopefully another member has had a similar experience.

    good luck!

  8. i was wondering the same thing. i did the dhl tracking thing and found that a package was despatched to singapore 2 days after my case was completed and the package has since arrived in singapore. it's likely to be ours since there are so few applications from singapore. however we still haven't heard the "case forwarded to embassy" message but maybe that's because our interview has not yet been scheduled.

hope you hear the message soon!
