  1. I got my tree at Walmart. They seem to be discounted quite a bit. They had a huge tree, no lights there for hardly anything compared to what you pay at other stores. I had been to Target, Kmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Big Lots, anywhere and this by far was the best deal. To top it off it came in just three pieces which made me like it even more. I hate the color coded branch ####### you have to sort through.

Amanda...I hope it all works out for you. I know how the ex thing goes at times and it is nerve wracking. Best of luck to you and your daughter.

  2. Good morning MENA! Did I actually post Tuesday's daily thread? It's been months since I have been on the ball like this.

Last night I finally found my kids a tree. I got an awesome deal on it. I paid 48.00 bucks for a prelit 6.5 inch tree. I know it sounds like it would be a Charlie Brown tree being that cheap but it looks really nice.

How is your holiday shopping going?

  3. I use the English translation, however when I have kids inshallah they will learn Arabic. I took a few Arabic classes at the masjid, but I haven't been sticking with it.

It seems like in my area Arabic classes in person are so hard to find. Our goal is for our son to be fluent in both languages and read and write in both. Inshallah, this will one day come true for him.

  4. Resha...I have no idea about the Moroccan Consulates for certain but it seems as if he can prove his legitimacy in the relationship and your visits and his criminal record is clean that he should eventually get the visa. I know it's hard raising your little one alone and for your love to be far away and miss days with her. I just wanted to chime in and offer some support to you. Best wishes with the process and I pray your family will reunite soon.

  5. Hi!

I just wanted to ask a question, and it may have already been answered in the 170+ pages, so please forgive me if that is the case.

I am trying to learn more about Islam. I am not really considering converting, neither of us are very religious. But, I do want to learn more since my kids are Muslim, I want to be able to answer their questions when they are old enough to understand and whatever happens beyond that is God's will. My problem is this, I don't read Arabic. The ones of you that converted, did you learn to read Arabic first, or did you use an English translation of the Quar'an? I have an English translation that a friend gave me a long time ago, but of course a translation is not the best to learn from since it is just that, a translation. If you did use an English version, did you find it held true to the actual meanings and teachings? Any help would be appreciated, I look forward to any feedback.

Thanks, and hope you all have a great day!

    Angie

Hi Angie! I do not read Arabic so I used the English Transliteration of the Quran. When I was first learning about Islam besides reading the Quran I went to the library and obtained whatever books I could get my hands on and I found the series of books called Islam for Dummies, Koran for Dummies etc. more helpful than most others. I will say that there were a few things in the English Quran that my husband would ask where I got that from and when he would read his my version of the ayat became more confusing. There are just some words in Arabic that can't be translated exactly how they should be in English from my understanding. I may have a few websites on my computer at work for kids that I was researching if you would like the sites pm me.

    Thanks,

    Tasha

  6. The Squeakster is fat, fuzzy and cuddly as always, thanks for asking :luv: She's really enjoying her new cat tree, but not enjoying her diet. I should have AbuS do my portion control, because she's losing more weight than me

    Wow, she is losing weight!

  7. Morning! It is very cold here. I just looked on yahoo and it is 16 degrees! We just had to fill our propane tank up today for the second time. Ouch...that hurt the wallet!

Amanda--that is great he already has his license! It sounds like everything is starting to work out for you. I will keep my fingers crossed that God willing you will get the new job!

Aya----you go girl! You will do awesome at your interview, I know it! :star:

Have a wonderful Friday and if I don't get back on here before next week a great weekend!

  8. We're having really bad wind gusts up here in MI, too. It's bitter cold and it's starting to snow. :( I'm so not ready for all of this. BTW, I love the new pics of Malek. He's looking like a big boy. :luv:

Happy Wednesday everybody! It seems like I am able to check in about once a week nowadays. I hope everybody is well and that the visa process is moving for those still waiting. Everything is good here, just working really hard and doing the mommy and wifey stuff. I don't have a lot of computer time except for working but I like to still check in from time to time.

Amanda--I'm so glad to hear that your husband has gotten a job. That is really great news!

We have a wind advisory here in my part of Ohio. We have had about 50 mph winds and it is very cold...right around the high 20's with a little snow off and on. I work with some counterparts of mine that are here from Wisconsin and they aren't able to fly home tonight. Apparently, Wisconsin got hit pretty hard with a lot of snow and blizzard like conditions. Be careful to all that are in the bad weather areas.

Take care and I hope to be in touch more often.

Hey girl! It took me awhile to figure you out with the new name! I am freaking freezing here. It is 18 right now! Yesssssss, my baby boy is getting big!

  9. Somebody said it before and I am too busy to find the thread but those people that marry a lot younger or with totally different values I would offer the same advice. If it would be normal/acceptable in their country to marry somebody significantly older, or who couldn't give them children (they are young and stating they don't want any; most of the time they will change their minds), or etc. then go ahead and follow your heart. If it is not acceptable , then you really have to evaluate your situation with your mind and not your heart.
