I've seen some people say they were able to submit additional documentation after submitting I130, is this true?

Also, at what point do we have to show financial ability to support? Is that the DS-something application? I am in the process of determining who will sponsor, since my job is technically overseas (even though they said I could live in the US for long periods of time) I figured I would need a third party to sponsor us.

My mother said she would do it, her income is around $32k a year (officially on tax return documentation). However, she also sponsored two of her cousins many years ago (who I'm sure have citizenship now) so I'm not sure if the USCIS will take that into consideration and if I should try to get a sponsor in my family who hasn't sponsored someone before.

You can upload documents to MyUSCIS after you've submitted your application, but it doesn't guarantee that they'll be looked at by USCIS. Easiest thing to do for peace of mind is to submit your application once you have all the evidence needed.

Proof of financial ability to support gets checked after your I-130 has been approved and sent to NVC. It is possible to sponsor your spouse if you've been working overseas but you have to prove intent to reestablish domicile in the US. I'd try looking through threads and wikis on VJ that should help you figure out if this is a possible option.

hello everyone. just checking in to say that we noticed our case was sent to the state department. our priority date is in october 2020, so this was unexpectedly fast (nebraska NVC). based on the wiki and such, guessing an NOA2 notice will follow shortly? and then, we wait a few weeks to get a case # + invoice ID from an operator.

anyone else at a similar stage?

We filed online, and our application got approved around the same time as yours. We still haven't received any physical mail, but within a couple of days the NOA-2 was uploaded to the documents tab of MyUSCIS. Within a week we'd received an email from NVC with our login info for their site, and were able to submit fee payments.

    Hope this helps!

  3. I-130 got approved recently and have officially moved on to NVC stage! I received lots of help and encouragement from other Japan members, so wanted to thank again & share status update :)

One thing I've been a bit unsure of is dealing with domicile requirements. I work for a Japanese subsidiary of a US company, make above poverty line, and should be able to do an internal transfer to the US office. Since the internal transfer process is very quick, I was planning to start looking for a position closer to our interview date so husband and I can move at same time.

Some sources online say you need to have proof of a job lined up already to prove domicile, but it seems like my employment situation could be counted as domicile in US per the I-864 FAQ. Any thoughts on this?

For backup also have other evidence of domicile in US  (filed taxes, maintain bank accounts, voter record, permanent mailing address with my family)

    Hey everyone!

So my wife (US Citizen Petitioner) and I (Canadian Beneficiary) filed on July 16th 2020, NOA1 received July 20th - for I130/CR1.  We initially got Nebraska Service Center and we have been stressing as we havent had any updates or approval thus far.

We finally made the decision to call USCIS today (which took forever to get ahold of a live agent - trick: just say you need to change your phome number and you will get connected to live agent) .  The kind lady told us that our case was actually transferred on July 23rd to Texas Service Centre. We never got any notification.

CALL USCIS AND CONFIRM YOUR SERVICE CENTER...CHANCES ARE IT MIGHTVE BEEN TRANSFERRED WITHOUT NOTIFYING YOU.

We are hoping to get an approval soon. This was hard enough originally but now with a pandemic and travel restrictions, it is much more difficult. I have been fortunate to go visit my wife 2x so far in the middle of COVID. I hope to go again soon.

Praying for us and everyone else in getting approvals and having their cases move along!

    Mel & E

In a similar situation to you - we e-filed and got NOA1 from Nebraska, but got transferred to Vermont at some point without notification (probably in September or October). I found out by checking MyUSCIS and reading through the case status section which tells you where your case is being processed.

It's a very frustrating and confusing process, but hopefully we'll start to see more July 2020 approvals soon!

    Good luck!

Have you tried  AR-11 through USCIS website? I've read once you submit a petition and want to change address at a later point, this is the best way to do so.

Unfortunately we can't use the AR-11 tool since both we're both living outside the US now and there's no way to input a foreign address. Thanks for the suggestion though!

  6. Hi everyone, July 29, 2020 filer here! Filed online, originally in Nebraska but got transferred at some point to Vermont (never received a notice but think it was in September). Have been having lots of issues updating our mailing address, but otherwise just playing the waiting game like everyone else.

Timeline is as below - VJ has our approval estimate for "any day now" but who knows how that will go. Fingers crossed we'll all start to see approvals soon!!

    IR-1/CR-1 Visa

    Service Center Nebraska Service Center

    Transferred? Vermont Service Center

    Consulate : Tokyo, Japan

    I-130 Sent : 2020-07-29

    I-130 NOA1 : 2020-07-30

  7. Has anyone applying from abroad had any luck updating their mailing address? Petitioner and beneficiary live abroad so have no access to online tools, filed online.

Husband and I moved in October and I've been trying to update it with absolutely no luck. Chatted with Emma early Nov and was advised to mail a letter to VSC notifying them of the changes. Letter was accepted but no updates made, so I called USCIS last week and got my situation reffered to a Tier 2 officer so they could update address on the system within 7 business days.

Today was 7th business day and I received a form email saying my case was "is pending and is within our current processing time" but no update to my address on MyUSCIS. When I go to the MyUSCIS profile screen it  just says our address can't be updated at this point in the process.

Guessing I probably have to call again, but wondering if anyone has successfully managed to deal with this.

I didn't have that type of experience (transferred the case to other Service Centers), but it seems there are also cases that get approved earlier than the period that written on the site. One of my friend even got approved after 5 months (mine is 9 months, lol). Hopefully you won't wait that long and will hear something soon next year :)

Thanks for the encouragement (and sorry for the late reply!) It's nice to hear anecdotally that people have gotten approved below the estimated wait times. Visa Journey's estimate has our I-130 approval for January-February 2020, so keeping our fingers crossed things will start to move forward.

  9. E-filed the I-130 for my husband, priority date 7/29/2020. Initially was assigned Nebraska so we were expecting to have update sometime in the next few months, but found out today we got transferred to Vermont at some point, which has up to 30 month wait for I-130. Yikes.

Anyone applying from Japan get transferred to Vermont?? I feel like all the cases I see from Japan tend to go smoothly, so hard to believe we'll really be waiting until 2022 just to get approval on our I-130 :(

  10. E-filed I-130 for my husband with priority date of 7/29/2020. Originally processing center was Nebraska, so we were expecting to move to the next step of the I-130 process within the next few months, then I discovered today we were transferred to Vermont.

Didn't receive notice that we were transferred so not sure when it happened, but I'm really bummed by the long wait. Can't believe it could take up to 30 months just to process our I-130. We're already married, living together in Japan (he's Japanese citizen) - low number of visa applications and even lower visa fraud from JP to begin with, really hard to believe it could take over 3 years just to get his GC :(
