Hi Yusef looks like we're in the same boat. We were DQ'd on September 2020 and waiting for an interview in Ankara. I last emailed NVC in December 2020 and they replied that our application was waiting for an interview appointment. I haven't heard anything else and on the official government website for embassy/consulate in Turkey, it says they're only providing immigrant visa services to Turkish Citizens and Turkish residents since February 4, 2021. It will be one year next month we've been waiting for an interview. It's super frustrating because I keep thinking something is going to change and nothing. It looks like even some Turkish residents/citizens may have gotten interviews but haven't received their visas. Has anything happened with your case?

    Nothing yet

    Still at NVC

To this date, never heard anything, in fact they stopped answering my messages!!!! It's going to be one whole year waiting for an interview appointment, im sick and tired of checking their websites or even to follow up with any threads here so I'll just wait for an email from NVC which It will take forever, trust me. Covid is getting worse and worse and embassies are not doing what they're suppose to do. Im sorry to sound so negative but I'm sick and tired of waiting!!!!!!!!!!

Well, this comment interested me enough to check on it because i know my daughter’s college gives up to two semesters leave of absence for either medical or personal reasons. And RIT (you mentioned the name above) has a policy that a student is actually allowed up to 3 consecutive terms, including summer, to be on a LOA. So, I mean, whatever works for you works, but I don’t think the argument that you could not get more than a couple of months and that you can just go back to the same school is going to work. Obviously a non-flagship public instate will usually be a good option for picking up on an interrupted degree without too much trouble.

As for DMS undergraduate student at Rochester Institute of technology I asked and said I'll be fine as long as I come back and continue my studies, they won't excuse you while semester is running, told them about my situation and give me a huge CAN NOT

wanted to leave early and couldn't ,so waited to complete my semester as I mentioned before ( barely did good job because of depression and overthinking) and booked out , I know I can finish my other two semesters when I go back hopefully within 7 months maximum.

Did you take a formal leave of absence from your school? Otherwise it just looks like you dropped out.

tbh no, they don't give excused leave for more than one or two months plus, they don't approve my situation.

I completed this semester last month and did not sign up for next semester. I said to myself, when I come back I'll continue.

A US address, bank accounts, voting records, driver's license, tax records,  all together, should be sufficient to show domicile since you are just vising your spouse..

yes, I have an address, driver license, car in my name, bank account with money, school still didn't finish, parents, 2020 tax record, did vote few times

    Thank you for your answer

  5. 7 minutes ago, Lucky Cat said:

That is irrelevant to the domicile question.  You MUST show evidence to the consulate that you have taken concrete steps to LIVE in the US after the visa is issued.   Sponsorship and income  is an entirely different matter.

my parents are in US, my school is in US, my banks accounts my car, I have no reason to live in Iraq and have all the reasons to live in US. The only reason why now I'm living outside is to support her and be with her I can NOT let her alone. It's a temporary thing until she gets her VISA not forever. I don't know what to show, like what? please help.

  6. 4 minutes ago, SusieQQQ said:

Yes, it can affect the process. Petitioner has to be domiciled in US or show evidence of taking up domicile again. What home have you maintained in the US? Second, income has to come from US source, do you have a joint sponsor in the US?

we have a joint sponsor yes since i didn't make enough money to file taxes ( full time student)

all documents approved and qualified, just waiting for an Interview

  7. Hi everyone

I filed for VISA beginning of 2018

    was DQ'd on September 2020

file currently at NVC waiting for ANKARA US embassy to reopen which it will takes forever

    denied expedite request twice

The stress was unreal to the point I left my studies ( Radiology student at RIT)

I went insane and couldn't handle the stress and depression anymore so I booked a flight two weeks ago to go back to Iraq and live with my wife until they schedule her an Interview appointment

I just can't leave her alone anymore, not in this country ruined by Iranian militia.

We're mentally and emotionally better now since we're together but too afraid of the situation ( too dangers living here)

my question is, will that effect the process of her VISA?

since I, the petitioner living outside of U.S ?

I'll stay here with her until they grand her VISA to go back together, will that be a problem?

    Thank you all.

  8. Its going to be a very LONG wait for Iraqis

I'm sick and tired of waiting that's why I decided to go back to Iraq ( be with my wife) and live here until they schedule an interview for us in Turkey

been here for two weeks, we're mentally and emotionally better now since we're together  but kind of afraid of what's going on ( it's so bad, the situation got worse especially the kidnapping by Iranian backed militia) please pray for us.

Thanks @yusef94 ! That is crazy. Your case is at NVC waiting for the Ankara to schedule the interview? You cannot transfer your own case? Once you pick which country/embassy you are stuck with that choice?

I tried many times but none accepted my case so I am forced to wait on Ankara

    still waiting for interview

    Hi Chancy,

It will be the embassy in Ankara, Turkey. What would be the best documents to prove my current income?

been waiting for an Interview from Ankara for 9 months and still waiting!!! they're not accepting foreigners, only Turkish residents.

They want 3 documents to prove your current income  ((W2 and letter from your employer place of work and FEDERAL INCOME TAX RETURN))

@Khloey  @yusef94  @Aynur   Did you all get an appointment for the CR1 visa interview from Ankara?

I need to make a decision which embassy to pick for my wife's interview coming from Iran. Which country/embassy do you recommend for Iranians given the current situation with Covid?

Appreciate any feedback you can share.

    Thanks!

Not yet!! it's been 9 months and still waiting and Ankara embassy is now closed till May 17th

pick Amman Jordan or Doha Qatar, these are your two best bet, they're open and can review any case not just the locals. So far, Turkey is the worst!!

    Greetings,

We have an approved I-30 since august 2019 and was at NVC at the time and at the US Embassy at Baghdad waiting for an interview. Protestor attacked the US Embassy in Baghdad so we had to move our case to US Embassy in Ankara, Turkey instead and March 2020 Covid hits the world and ever since the Embassy in Ankara is telling us that they only schedule interview appointments for applicants who are living in Turkey.

My wife lives in Iraq but we have a tourist visa good for a year for her and contacted both Embassy and NVC multiple times but they are refusing to help.

What can I do at this point? We really need to get an interview and get done with it or I have to move back.

If they keep delaying it can I sue the State Department?

Please advise and help and I will be willing to hire an attorney if that can help.

You are not alone we all waiting for Ankara interview, many are before you, you can't do anything but wait. They're processing visas for Turkish resident and citizens only you have no right to sue or complain so just wait. Our case been sitting at NVC for 7 months now, I know people been waiting for 9 and some 11 months. They have piles over piles of cases its not fair to others to rush some and leave some, they don't even accept expedite!!!!!!!! i called many times and showed them how serious the situation in Iraq is and they refused our expedite multiple times, and I have a friend who's living in Turkey been waiting for an Interview for 10 months ( he's Turkish resident) and just got his interview last month but no VISA yet, still waiting for them to finish it.

In other words, chill and wait there's nothing you can do, good luck.

I thought Ankara has started accepting non-residents but they must self-quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. It's possible that they just haven't reached your DQ yet. HKS was DQ I believe in May 2020 and only got an interview in December because they expedited the case.

If your wife is in Iraq you could try another expedite. The situation there is getting worse every week with the frequent attacks. Have you tried recently? NY has Democrats so you can ask the Senator to inquire about an expedite due to the situation in Iraq. If any of the attacks happened close to your spouses home (e.g. less than 10 km) you can mention that too to explain how urgent it is.

I tried to expedite twice, each with strong reasons like the situation in Iraq is getting worse because of Iran backed militia danger on minorities especially those who are married to American citizens, they are the best targets. Not to mention the worst healthcare system on EARTH and how COVID is getting out of control in Iraq, and her father lost their source of income and its hard for them to keep up with their daily needs etc....

They said they need a proof, how on earth can I send any proof of all this? isn't raining the embassy with mortars enough?  W.H.O Iraq COVID stats isn't enough? the news isn't enough?

crazy thing is, the US bombed Shia terrorist headquarter literally 6 miles away from my wife's house, her house was slightly damaged not from the air strike but from the explosion of ammo storage ,and they were so enraged that they start kidnapping locals because they believed they're the ones who reported their hideouts.

we are emotionally effected and she's going crazy, all we can do is wait, but ill contact NY Senator, hopefully he/she can help a little bit.

You go to their website they usually have a form that you fill out and email to them. Where in the process are you and what is your problem? Please fill out your timeline which then helps others with statistics on Visajourney

    Thank you

I tried many times updating my timeline but always showing error and won't let me continue

My wife file still at NVC waiting for Ankara Turkey to accept her for an interview

DQd 6 months ago still nothing

mainly because Ankara is processing Turkish citizen and residents only because we were transferred from Baghdad as well after the embassy was shutdown.

we tried to expedite but was denied twice so we're just waiting for them to open for others 😢

  15. 6 hours ago, Quarknase said:

Ok so just that I understand correct:

    - you have visa approval in writing from the embassy?

    - you sent passport upon request

    - they returned passport and said case is back in AP again and it shows “refused” on ceac? Or do they have the passport now and it says “Administrative Processing” on CEAC status tracker?

i would still ask senators and congress people to reach out.

wait, how can one get senators or congress involved?? I never knew that!!

i'm a NY resident what should i do to get them involved?

    Hello,

I just wanted to ask about your friend interview, how was it? I hope he got approved, also I was wondering how he could go to the embassy while there is a general shutdown every weekend because of COVID-19.

Also, it would be great if you can ask him about medical exam, where did get it done, or it was not required?

He was told his Interview went well and he has to wait for a call or email to pick up his passport back, he still didn't get it yet.

he lives in Izmir and was told must have medical exam so he did it in Ankara, they give him the location and phone number, he contact them by email and made an appointment.

location of Medical exam is Atatürk Bulvarı 237/44-45 in Ankara their website is www.doctorun.com they're open almost 24hr everyday except Sundays.

Note* This is the only location In Ankara approved by the Embassy, any medical exam from anywhere else won't be accepted.

Remember*** YOU WILL GET YOUR MEDICAL EXAM REPORT IN A SEALED ENVELOPE.

DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE or YOUR INTERVIEW WILL BE CANCELED AND MUST PAY AND RE-DO YOUR MEDICAL EXAM ALL OVER AGAIN AND RESCHEDULE

    Hello,
Many thanks for your valuable information, I have a question please about you friend who lives in Turkey and was DQed on May 17th 2020 and just got his IR1 visa interview schedule for next month Feb 2021.

Can you please inform us when he received his interview letter and what is the interview date is?

I'm trying to estimate the time between the QD and the interview letter at Ankara embassy in Turkey.

    Many thanks,

Hi, I had to wait for him to answer me, so he was DQ'd on 05/17/2020 and received an email on 1/13/2021 scheduling his Interview appointment on 02/06/2021

he's An Iraqi citizen living in Turkey since 2016 so he's a resident filing for himself to Join his wife here in US . Are you Turkey resident or were you transferred from different embassy?

  22. 20 hours ago, mrsasmaolarte said:

That's so good to read, and congrats on your successful interview! My DQ was on September 1, 2020, and I still haven't gotten my interview - I even sent inquiries to the embassy but never heard back from them. Did you get an expedite for your interview? I tried but was rejected unfortunately.

If you applied within Turkey your application is almost near to be reviewed

because they're working on those who filed from Ankara embassy, so they already know you are a resident.

My case so do many others, is different because we filed from different countries ( my case was filed in Iraq) then transferred to Ankara because US embassy in Baghdad was closed. You guys have the highest priority so no worries. I know a friend who lives in Turkey was DQ'd on may 17th 2020 and just got his IR1 visa  interview schedule for next month Feb 2021

They are working on those who filed before you so just wait. wish you the best.

    Thank you!

Where is your case assigned to currently? Please fill our your timeline that makes it easier for members to see which part of the process you're in.

If your case is at NVC, they will assign you an embassy and (hopefully) one where Iraqi's can travel to. As long as your case is at NVC, you can always request a transfer via NVC inquiry form if the assigned embassy doesn't work for you (you will need to provide proof while it's not working). I will however recommend to not do this, until you have DQ and are ready to be scheduled for an interview. In the current time, embassies open and closed without a long notice, and a transfer takes time so you only want to request it once :)

    DQ'd on September 19th

currently at NVC waiting for Ankara Turkey embassy to reopen to none local cases😭
