  1. this is exactly what she said...

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud."

i like how people take one little statement and start a whole big thing around it and twist it around to mean something it doesn't...

    Good job.

    McCain

    1) he's not going to pussyfoot around and let more terrorist activity happen

    2) he won't take away my hard earned money and give it to lazy butts that don't want to work

    3) he has morals

    You need HELP!!!

    Please provide some real reasons.

Who let's terroist activity happen? Did Bush? It happen while he was President.

it happen while he was Pres. b/c Clinton ignored foreign policy

nope, it happened because Bush ignored a memo saying it would happen, based on intelligence that was gathered because of Clinton's good management. Bush KNEW there was a threat, but did not do anything about it.

  2. Nope, no update. They would need the person to start soon, so I think I would hear today or tomorrow.

I went to the polls with C, no line at all. although it was just past 12 so I guess it was a lul between the morning rush, and lunchtime. It was fun though. It was the little book and putting ink on a paper ballot. Pretty good system I think, at least there's a paper trail.

  3. But at least in the stretches between cities, it will be the easiest driving of all. Just ask Maven, she did it very shortly after learning to drive, and now credits it with really helping her to become much more comfortable driving.

  4. Hey Aly, hope the colorado trip is fun, I don't really know any of those places, we stayed in Denver for a few days on our road trip, but I mostly only remember seeing that massive Cheyenne mountain and being scared of Norad. Apart from that the scenery is amazing.

Thanks for the best wishes on the interview. It was really nice to send my family home with some good news. I've been trying to really work hard on the job hunt the last few weeks.

Has anyone else heard the Russell Brand 'Sachs answer phone message' controversy show? I just listened to it on you tube and it's hilarious. The show was pre-recoreded and then broadcast, but they didn't put it on the podcast, meanies.

  5. OMG I have an interview for Monday, for a job that would start on Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am pretty excited. Trying not to get over excited, but pretty excited. It kinda came from nowhere, and it's not the exact job I'm looking for, but it's in my field generally, and that's fine with me.

  6. oh Ginger I keep meaning to say, that the guy that made the Americana here in Glendale is thinking about running for mayor of LA, or at least that's what was on the front of the LA weekly last week. I personally find the Americana pretty inhospitable. I don't know, there's just something too... gleaming about it. Like I'm not supposed to be there, lol.

  7. Congrats to Debz, sounds like a cool job, good luck with the interview!

Ouch to Maven, that sucks about your tooth. Good thing you can't feel anything though. Now you have the chance to have it done properly here in the U S of A.

    Aly, hope you're feeling better.

  8. Had a mini panic yesterday. I'm starting to try to decide what to do. I think that if I can't find a job soon, I'll have to start looking for anything that pays money. But I know that jobs are scarce everywhere, and I don't know if I could realistically get a job well paid enough in some other field.

I'm pretty scared. We signed a 3 month lease here, which is up in mid Nov. I don't know what to do after that. Put everything in storage and go live with C's mom... not a fantastic prospect, but I don't know what else we could do.

  9. My life is not only boring but also depressing. I spend most days pretending to look for jobs, but really yelling at cable news. My family have gone up to San Fran till tomorrow, it's nice to have a bit of peace, and still nice that they'll be here for a few days before they leave on thursday.

Still no job, union stuff still being a pain, lots of dead ends. I'm about to start from the beginning again, and start bothering people that have said they would look out for something for me, but I haven't heard from since. You know, I'm not sure this whole freelance thing is for me. I hate job hunting. And I think I'm getting worse at it.

Sorry for the depressing post. I really never forsaw that I'd be coming up to November, and still in this position.

  10. That book sounds hilarious, on a sadder note, I was watching the TV with C the other day and there was an ad for those 'snack' fast food items like the McD's dollar menu etc. C says, 'you know why they are expanding those lines and really pushing them, it's because for some people it's all they can afford, it's their dinner'. Things are getting bad, and a lack of education not only affects peoples jobs, but nutrition too. So sad.

  11. I'm sorry. I must not have made myself clear, ling ling. This was my question:

Now, if your head isn't empty, in your own words, tell us how he can keep his promises and not be destructive.

While you're working on that, I'm gonna go eat. I'm having lobster and champagne, a favorite of those regular folks, Barry and Michelle Obama.

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/10212008/gossi...vice_134490.htm

THE source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.
  12. Regardless of the country he was born in his mother is an American citizen and therefore he is entitled to American citizenship.
    <hijack with context removed>

Unfortunately, not ground-reality USCIS/USDOS that it's so simple.

I have an Edmonton-born friend whose German-born mum had been naturalised in US, but didn't live in the country for 5+ years post-naturalisation. His older sister (US-born) "lucked out", but he didn't (Canuck-only).

Also, I met a woman of about 35 (then) in 2000 in Harrisburg who had a 14-year-old daughter (dad also white, dunno if American) born in India--who asked specifically to pray about the renewal of her daughter's immigrant visa, and who told me that the "automatic citizenship by birth" isn't quite as automatic in US as in Canada (any child born to a Canadian-citizen parent post-1977, is automatically a Canadian citizen).

Detail only: Ann Dunham was a shade under 19 at the time of Obama's birth; the rules at that time specifically stated that to register "birth of US citizen abroad", mum had to have lived in US as a citizen for 10 years, five of which had to be after her 14th birthday--impossible to meet if he was born in Mombasa.

(check the wiki bios of Obama and Ann Dunham for the dates)

    <reset context end hijack>

Well you don't have to worry about that stuff since he was born in Hawaii.

Regardless, are you saying that Obama was not only born in Kenya, but she had also spend more than 5 years after 14 out of the USA??? She lived in Washington state from 13 to 17. And then moved to Hawaii. Where are the missing years she supposedly spent outside of the US?? And what has it got to do with where Obama was born?

  13. Noooooo not the mail in!!!!!:o:P

Seriously though, if you can do it in person, then do. I wish I had a vote. Next time...

I mailed in. Because I don't typically know if I can go in on the day until the day is well underway.

I hope they don't cancel it just because of a hurricane, severe snow storm, tornado, gas shortage or some other stupid reason.

Wife already voted her first time in a primary, was told she had to select either the republican, democratic, green, or socialist party and only vote under that heading, if she cross voted, her ballot would be rejected. Under each party was only one selection so she could either vote for that candidate or not, course if she didn't, wouldn't hurt that candidate.

So she asked a very stupid question, what am I voting for?

Hey, it's your right as a USC!!!

Can anyone confirm that this is not the case??? I believe that this is a lie, but I can't be sure. Sounds like some of the lies that people spread around the polls to influence thhings in their own direction.

  14. Natural born citizen means a citizen at birth. Since his mother was a citizen, he was a natural born citizen. End of story. The fact that he was also born on US soil (McCain was born in the Panama canal region, don't see anyone trying to sue McCain about that) means that again, he is a natural born citizen.

The only real argument for someone who believes any of this ####### is that if there was any question in the guys eligibility then do you think that the democratic party would risk putting him on the ballot without being sure?? No way, there would be far too much to lose.

  15. oh lord, those things are just too tragic for words. "I have a degree, but I'm happy if hubby keeps me locked up, barefoot and pregnant?????" She may not have understood the full implication of the word slave, but boy, it seems she wasn't that far off.

  16. Well I grew up watching the BBC. Supposedly a bastion of straight news. I often heard things that seemed very far from objective, and were a contradiction of the 'straight news' on Irish TV. I remain sceptical that there is any such thing as objective news. Just a slightly more subtle skew.
