Apparently getting a learner's permit for driving is not possible without GC😪

It is very possible. Most important is the SS coz you have the temp GC.

Also, you can use your Kenyan driver’s license. It allows you to skip all the necessary steps like learner’s permit and just jump to driving test since you already know how to drive. Sorry, am assuming you do 😬

I am due any day/time yet hubby doesn’t have his SS to get his DL. In case of emergency, we are figuring out who would drive me to the hospital. But all this is easy to handle. Having him here, helping and supporting me is such a relief. The distance was not a joke especially in my condition. God is Great!

I also wanted to share that I won’t be as active as much since I am due soon and won’t have much time to share any updates. I wish everyone here sincerely, the best and the easiest journey. We all know things were not easy for all of us and it has been (still is) a torturous affair. Nonetheless, I truly believe that things will open up soon, seeing that many restrictions have been lifted up.

    Wishing everyone the very best.

Glad ur hubby got here safe. Yeees I was told the same within 90 days, was checking whether anyone got theirs; guess the wait continues. SS came on the 3rd week.

Thank you ShuJosh. This is good to know. GC can wait since they gave him that temporary one. And SS’s 3 weeks wait time is not so bad. Thank you.

NB/ MercyDom, call them or see if you can talk to someone at the embassy. The mailing should have taken at least 24-48 hrs. Check the DHL portal they provided. Also check your junk mail. I also believe that going to the DHL office to check for yourself after all fails doesn’t hurt. You are done with IOM which was the most pain for many. You are almost there!

Oh one more thing I forgot to mention that hubby just told me to inform you. The embassy sends docs only on Fridays in bulk for the week they worked on to save on time and money. So hopefully you should get yours on Monday.

It's been a while since I was here. It's now 2 months in the States. Got my SS like a month ago still waiting for the green card. Anyone else still waiting??

Hubby got here about 2 weeks now. He was told the green card would be sent within 90 days. So you should get it in time. But for us the SS hasn’t been sent yet. How long did it take you? They told us to wait a month.

Anyone with other contacts for IOM? or experience how to go about getting their appointment setup?

    International Organization for Migration (IOM)

Email for appointments: mrfnbommsc@iom.int or iomnbomedical@iom.int

The above are not being answered......

Thanks i advance for any info or advice. We want to try and go there and see if we can get it setup.

Email them Babito. The sooner the better. Attach the NVC appointment letter. Call them too and final option is to walk in if all fails. The last option doesn’t work but it won’t hurt to try.

If you look at the letter you got from NVC with your interview date, it should have the A number listed at the bottom. For when you can pay the immigrant fee, you can do it after you get here. The immigrant fee is just to get the plastic card. It doesn't affect whether are a green card holder.

Asanteni nyote. Imagine I didn’t look so nitamuuliza acheki again. He is flying out this weekend. Thank you all.

Quick update. I got to the US 04/23. POE was smooth. Waiting for green card and SSN hopefully it won't be long. Praying for everyone still in this process. Keep hope alive, you're almost there. God bless.

    Hi Shu Josh,

Quick question on this one. Did you get your A-number after receiving the IV package? And did you apply for the green card while in Kenya or after coming to US?

Thank you all... I pray things start to open up for everyone. Coz I know it’s not easy. It has been a long journey for all of us.

NB/Judy did you try what I told you? I think you should go with the last option I mentioned to you if all failed. IOM was the hardest to get an appointment at.

Oh sorry, I see you answered above. Yes try the walk-in, but like I mentioned/warned you; it’s a 50-50 chance. They may be sympathetic and allow to schedule an appointment or turn you away. Either way, it won’t hurt to try.

Yes, my assumption is they aren't yet in April dates-those that have heard were expedited or are special circumstances. I'm not sure what the embassy is working on that's taking over a year to get to early April DQs. Yet K1s who filed in 2021 have already heard from them.

Yes I think so too. I think they are only working on expedite or special circumstances cases.

Anyway, here is an update for us: He received an appointment for this Thursday the 20th now that the medical results have come through.

Will give an update on Thursday’s appointment.

You'll get through this. You are almost there, keep fighting.

It's much better than a regular process where there's no information or progress without one fighting through an expedite. (For CR1/IR1)

Such an amazing feeling to read those positive and encouraging words. Thank you Kenyan Couple ... May we all get through this once and for all.

So would you say your case is following the expedited process or regular process?

I believe that ‘expedited’ means ‘getting out the case from NVC to the consular office/embassy’. Once it reaches there, if I am not wrong, I believe it follows the embassy’s normal processing timeline.

  11. 1 hour ago, Juddy said:

I have been waiting on the same forever.  I do not know what to do.the expedite was approved a month ago and sent to Nairobi,  the wait for medical is just another trouble...am not sure if there is another way to do it

So you got approved for your expedite? In that case don’t just wait for them. We almost did the same mistake. It would take you forever. You must schedule an IOM appointment which I must say was a pain for us to get one. After the medicals then you must again contact the embassy to notify them that you are done with medicals. And then you wait!

No mine is definitely expedited... but in all honesty it’s a pain to just get an appointment at the IOM and now the embassy. It seems like so many loops that you have to jump through if it’s expedited. The good thing about a regular process is that you only have to worry about scheduling the IOM medicals since the NVC already pre-schedules the embassy’s appointment. I thought it would have been easier for an expedited process 😩.

Do you know if the embassy is doing more interviews now that Kenya is opening up?

They had pushed his medicals 3 days later so his visa interview at the embassy is on hold. He just completed his medicals and results were sent to the Embassy yesterday. Getting appointment at the IOM was the hardest part the second time around. He literally had to walk in (no walk-ins due to COVID). But since he had an email approving his initial appointment, he was lucky he was let in for the medicals.

He did tell me that he talked to some few people at the IOM. Some were those who won through the lottery and some whose DQ were in March. He said the place was full and IOM is also backed logged but only by 2-3 weeks.

He has completed medicals and now waiting for his interview date to be reset and will update everyone as soon as he goes there.

NB/ apparently expedited appointments are handled way differently than a regular process. The regular process is easier as everything is being handled by the NVC with the interview date pre-scheduled. On the other hand, the expedited ones means you wait until the consular schedules it for you (which is another torture just waiting to hear back from them).

  14. Hawayuni,

Did anyone have a hard time getting a hold of IOM to try talking to someone for the medical check-up? If you know how to get a hold of them, please let us know. We wanted to call them prior to the appointment but the numbers provided in the email were not working. Plus, when we called other numbers provided on the website, they were not being answered. Help!

By the way have you done the medical stuff or you got an appointment too, 10th May seems too close... but am really happy for you.  Am eagerly waiting for mine...hopefully they do it on the 14th day Tuesday

My hubby is supposed to schedule the medical early this week. Apparently they have enough open spots available.

The reason for the quick appointment is because I am due in a couple of weeks. I literally have only 6 weeks before my EDD. My dr. emphasized on the due date.

👏congratulations... I do not know how long till they schedule my daughters interview,  it's been two weeks since the case was sent to Nairobi

Thank you...😃. I asked my friend who works there. Good news is that they have all been vaccinated and are already back to phase 2. She has been working this past week from the office. In two weeks, they are all summoned to go back to work. So she said things have started to pick up pace at the embassy.
