Hi ODJD, thank you for joining in! I don't mind at all, the more positive feedback the better! How is your process coming along? If you don't mind me asking, where are you at in your process and what's going on in Peru? DR still has curfew hours when everyone has to be in and everyone out on the streets after curfew is picked up by the police. I just traveled to DR and they scan people to take their temperatures and have nurses in the airport to give rapid covid-19 tests just randomly!

    Hope to hear from you!

The process is just a waiting game. We have passed the year mark of being approved and at the end of this month, it’ll be a year of waiting at the embassy to get an interview.

Peru hasn’t opened their embassies yet, and it’s been a challenging time with a lot of strict quarantine rules and curfews, which seems similar to what you’re sharing here. Random testing seems intense though! I only wish it had a positive outcome, but my partner shares that people are going hungry, and they need to work. He is fortunate with his family but others not so much.

I suppose this post should be positive though, and I haven’t shared anything positive! Let’s see: my partner has shared that on a group he follows, it says Mexico is now opening embassies, so I think I’m just wanting to know what’s going on across Latin American countries. Another positive is that they seem to be updating applications. For instance, the CEAC website still says “ready” but it says last updated December 2020, so about every three months, it appears they may open the case and extend it. This is a relief because my paranoia told me in June that the case may be forgotten... doesn’t seem that this is happening! 😂

That is all for now. I really appreciate you setting up this space.

That's not an issue. The pending I-485 would mean she'll be in a period of stay authorized by the Secretary of Homeland Security. The I-485 receipt notice would be her proof of that.

    Ah, ok. Thanks for explaining.

Maybe I’m a pessimist but it seems like if this route was as effortless as it appears on this thread then more people would go marry and file an AOS rather than going through any other visa process. Perhaps that is the case and I’m mistaken.

    Will research more. Thanks again!

  3. Oh wow, we are in very similar circumstances except since you initially applied, that has been as long as our case has been transitioned from NVC and has now been waiting at the embassy in Lima. What a year it’s been!

I will follow this topic, because to be honest, I remember being told not to do this earlier in the pandemic because it would be a similar waiting game. My fiancé is also here with me now visiting, and he has extended his trip so we can be together just a little bit longer.

What makes you believe this processing will be faster than the embassy opening up in Lima? If you file for an adjustment of status in the US, are you certain it will be granted before the tourist visa sets your partner over the time limit?

It is certainly tricky business. Best of luck in your choice.

My fiancee arrived on ESTA about 2 weeks ago for a 2-month visit.  We got our NOA2 like a week before she flew.  When asked about her plans in the US, she said she was visiting some friends from college and spending the holidays with her fiance and his family.  We expected more questions but that was all.  POE was at Dulles.

Oh wow, thank you so much for your response.

Can you let me know if he required a Covid test? I’ve seen some explain they need a test as well as a contact tracing app. Was this true for you?

We’ve visited multiple times throughout this lengthy process, but never since covid and since we’ve moved to the embassy. It’s great to hear alternative perspectives outside of Canada, Australia, and UK. Unfortunately, treatment in immigration varies greatly so I truly appreciate your perspective.

  5. Hello,

We are looking at a holiday visit. About a month stay. Flights are affordable. I’m a little concerned he will be denied entry since we are so far along (case is at the embassy and awaiting medical/interview). Any possibility anyone could either ease my concerns or offer a warning to not attempt this? It’ll be a shame if we are out the money if denied but my main concern is what the process of being denied at customs looks like. Will he be detained, etc.? We haven’t booked anything yet. Thank you.

Just received this reply from the embassy in Bogota, hopefully there will be something soon.

This is very helpful. Obviously the content of the letter isn’t helpful or great, since we just have to wait. However, it’s helpful to get something specific from an embassy rather than the generic message from March about suspending services. I appreciate you posting!

  7. Do you know who is in charge of determining when embassies/consulates open? It appears for many that the given embassy is closed and not processing anything. Do you know who makes that decision to open the embassy: local employees or the US government? I’m just wondering who/what is preventing the processing of visas since your petition is directed at the White House, and I didn’t know why.

  8. We are in the same situation, with it at the embassy as of March 2020 (expired in May 2020).

We emailed the embassy a new letter saying that we still intend to marry and pursue the visa. Though this was a safety precaution, as I’ve read elsewhere all that is necessary is a new letter to bring to the actual interview. I will say that our case was updated after we sent the email on CEAC but I don’t know if it was because of the email.

Hang in and let’s stick together! Not much is being said about Peru, it seems. It’s nice to hear someone else is out there (though that probably sounds silly).

  9. Does anyone have suggestions on how to visit? I’m nervous if he comes here (US) only to be denied entry since but I am unable to go there (Peru) due to their covid policies. What do we do? What are you all doing? Are people meeting in the middle (some other country)?

We’ve seen each other for only 7 days this entire year. Preaching to the choir, but this wasn’t what I expected.

I admit I didn’t read all pages on this thread so I apologize if this has been answered.

  10. Hi,

I am wondering the same for our process. Are we supposed to be trying to make an appointment for interview without medical or receiving a snail mail packet? I worry I’m falling behind by simply waiting this out.

    Context:

    - Our immigrant visa case number says “Ready” as of 6 March 2020.

    - Approval Notice is valid up to 5/29/2020 (does this really expire?)

    - We have completed DS-160 but that says “no status” when searched

    Please take care.
