  1. Hope everyone is doing okay !

My question today is the following:

My husband returned to the US in March 2020 in order to do my papers. He’s now been working since April (1. Job April-June and now since June in another job) and he makes enough monthly to be my sponsor (annually would be more than $ 21,000). So my question is can he be my sole sponsor although he hasn’t worked in the companies for that long yet? We really don’t want to involve a joint sponsor...

    Thank you all!

He must explain why he was not required to file.  On the I-864, he can write "Income below reporting threshold"  if that is the reason he did not file.

And so we still would provide 2018,2017 and 2016 as the most recent years, with the indication that there was no need to file 2018 because “income below reporting threshold”. Correct? Thank you so much you guys are amazing

No you do not have to submit 2015 tax return. Since the filing deadline for tax returns has been extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020. Therefore up until July 15th, 2020 (tax deadline), you can still use 2018 as the most recent tax year.  You can use 2016, 2017 and 2018 as the most recent year. However,  you should submit a letter of employment and pay stubs to show your income.

Keep in mind,  though: if you submit 2018 tax information as the most recent year and your interview is scheduled after July 15th, then 2020 tax information will likely be required at the interview. Hope that helps.

Hey! Thanks for your help :) however, my concern is that my husband was only a part time student during the year of 2018, that’s why he didn’t file his taxes ... what would you suggest? ( If our interview is after July 15th )

  4. Hey everyone, hope you are all well.

My husband is preparing the most recent tax returns, however. He hasn't filed 2019 yet, because the Corona Virus had every office closed and everything is a mess generally. Also, he was a part time student only in 2018, so he did not work and did not file his taxes. I am aware that he might have to just include a letter that explains that he was a part time student. Generally, does that mean he would have to submit 2017,2016 and 2015? Thanks :)

  5. Hi everyone!

I-130 NVC Stage: VJ lists that court records need to be submitted and/or brought to the interview.

If you have ever been a witness in court (not in person only on paper in form of an affidavit) in order to support someone in a case does this count and do I have to mention that? Name is listed on final verdict as witness

    thanks !

It sucks......but a year or so has been the average for some time.  It took us 13 months from filing to "visa in hand" in 2017.  If our "brilliant" attorney had now screwed up, it would have been closer to 10 months......

A year is still okay for me... but I wouldn’t know how to cope with a timeline of more than 12 months ...

Oh no! You pay an attorney to help you and then you have a 3 months delay? What happened if I may ask?

    No worries.

Because of the corona virus closures I don't think you can compare your timeline anymore to the previous ones.

Usually it takes 12-18 months for the whole process but with this we never know... Hopefully somebody can chime in with recent timelines from Germany.

It is a long wait regardless. The best is to try to forget about it and live your life in the meantime.

Hey. Thanks for your reply! Wow, that does sound a little harsh because you are far away from your loved one :(

But I guess that is the only thing one can do at the moment ... :’(

    Hallo mein Lieber!

Die Hauptsprache des Forums ist Englisch. Bitte poste auf Englisch, damit mehr Leute dir helfen können. Ansonsten gibt es das regionale Forum, in dem es in Ordnung ist, auf Deutsch zu posten.

    Danke 😊

    Mein Deutsch ist schlecht

Oh gosh I am so sorry. I should have posted this in English !

    Danke 😊

    Liebe Grüße, Bino.
