Has anyone been to Detroit for their biometrics? Is there a parking outside the building? Since I can't bring my phone with me inside, there's no way for me to contact my husband when I'm done with it. Can he just join me inside the building?

My wife did her biometrics at the Detroit Field Office and i was with her inside the building, this was pre-covid shutdown though. However your husband should still be allowed to accompany you.

    • There is a parking lot so no need to worry about that, it's not large but there is ample parking available and you won't lose your husband in it if he is not allowed in.
    • You are not prohibited from bringing your phone into the building, just make sure it is set to silent
    • Be prepared to take your shoes/coat/belt/ect. off as it's airport style security.
    • Make sure you wear a mask that does not have the exhaust ports on it or you will be turned away, you will also have to answer 4 health questions.
    • You will be directed once through security, you will then check in and sit in a waiting lobby to fill out a biometrics form then wait to be called. The biometrics is done in a separate room so your husband can wait in the lobby area for you.

So just for information sake, i just got off my phone from calling uscis and the lady literally told me to not expect any updates for a while.. I have filled early December and my case has been sitting “Ready to schedule for an Interview date” sine May 11th thats 211 days that there has been no updates... Idk what lol but Is anyone that has  filled in November-December time getting their interview date?

They might still be doing the reschedules of the cancelled interviews but if my wife and I's case is anything to go by what is the worst that can happen if you file an outside normal processing query, it may give them the boot they need.

In other news i am not sure what manner of sorcery the USCIS and USPS pulled off with their lightning fast printing and shipping, but my wife received her 2 Year green card in the mail today. 4 business days after the interview 6 days total from interview to delivery.

wow thats crazy.. like a reminder to them! I just filled one too and hopefully I will hear something soon.. It’s been a crazy long year lol

My wife and I had her interview this morning not many people waiting, we were in 15 minutes early and waited maybe 10 minutes to be called. Interview took maybe 15 minutes also.

Officer went over the I-485 to make sure all the info was correct and to make any updates, asked maybe 3-4 basic relationship questions and took a few documents we brought with us mainly anything joint with both our names on it, did not ask to look at or keep any of the pictures we brought, then said that she was approving the AOS. Case status updated to New Card is Being Produced before we made it back home.

Pleasant experience, it was funny seeing our original huge stack of forms and evidence that the officer had then our even larger stack of forms and evidence that had grown since we filed.

But technically it’s not outside normal time bc they were shut down until June so all our cases were completly pause (in their opinion no time has passed)

so if they picked up where they left now people who had their interviews in march-april are getting it re-scheduled to November/December  so it seems like they are finally picking up and hopefully they move fast and we don’t have to wait another 6-8 month lol.. Detroit was always one of the fastest office to process cases so lets hope they stay the same!

In your case I’m pretty sure you will get an answer soon they just started this week re-scheduling canceled interviews! Hope you get good news soon! and keep us updated

    Update:

After submitting the outside normal processing request on the October 27th i got a notice on the 28th that "We have taken an action on your case" however online case status showed nothing, no updates at all and checked again over multiple days with no change. Filed my wife's EAD renewal paperwork this afternoon and then checked the mail, behold a USCIS letter saying our interview has been scheduled for December 1st 2020 at the Detroit Field Office.

Now i am not going to say that the outside normal processing request was 100% the reason it was finally rescheduled, but i have a sneaking suspicious that it was because the notice date on the letter in October 27th (same day i filed the request).

  5. I've been hearing that others have been receiving their re-scheduled interviews, however nothing for my wife yet. Can't make it through the automated system to speak to an agent or even schedule a callback just keep getting shuffled through their phone help services and not into the actual IVR system.

So I filed an Outside Normal Processing request with USCIS today on her behalf since we filed November 2019, expected reply by is November 17th. At this point just hearing anything would be better than hearing nothing at all.

  6. Still no updates from the Detroit Field Office.

My wife's interview was scheduled in February for the middle of March, 24 hours before our interview date she received a call saying it was cancelled. We still went to the field office for the interview and were turned away saying we would receive a cancellation letter in the mail, letter came a few days later.

my.uscis.gov still lists our AOS as "Interview Was Scheduled" from February. Multiple calls to the contact center over the past 6 months all result in the same answer "We do not know when interviews will be rescheduled"

We will have to file a renewal for my wife's EAD soon and she is looking to get a Advance Parole just in case, i'm hoping that we don't have to pay the filing fee again for either since we already paid the AOS filing fee's.

  7. My wife's I-485 Adjustment of Status Interview was cancelled at the Detroit Field Office.

Our interview was scheduled for yesterday 3/17/2020, she received a call from the field office and then a follow up e-mail that it was cancelled and said they would mail out a cancellation letter. Calling the Contact Center gave no information as the Detroit Field Office was not listed as being closed and the interview was not listed as being cancelled or re-scheduled.

We showed up anyways yesterday just to be sure and we were informed by a floor supervisor that it was indeed cancelled along with almost all other I-485 interviews at the Detroit Field Office except under certain circumstances, they could give us no information on when the interview would be re-scheduled but were assured that the cancelled appointments would be re-scheduled and processed first when they re-open.

It is frustrating to wait months and have it cancelled the day before, the supervisor stated that they were cancelling appointments the day the directive came down. So i'm sure it was frustrating for people that showed up with no notice that their interview was cancelled as they were driving there or in the waiting room.
