  1. A standard letter and when my hubby did his interview at Oakland Park it took about 45 minutes before he was called in for the interview. The actual interview was 10-15 minutes. Here is a link to our Interview experience. Up to the time we went, there was no same-day oath, but I hope and pray that you don't have to wait as long as we did for the oath ceremony -- it took about 2 months from the interview to oath. I've heard of others who didn't have to wait as long.

All the best to you! Can't wait to hear about your experience.

  2. Great idea, thanks for doing this.

  3. Makes no sense to . . . WHAT?

If you fill out the N-445 now, totally against the rules, and on the way to the Oath Ceremony a cop stops you because you were speeding or because you made a turn without using your turn signal, what then? Finding an Office Depot, fast, to buy white out?

If you like to play by the rules in your last days of being a foreigner in this country, you fill out the back of the N-445 just before you go in line at the Oath Ceremony. Until you are in the building, you don't know what you have to mark on the back. Stuff happens, all the time.

  4. Congratulations! Enjoy the ceremony. Fill out the N445 now, makes no sense to wait until the day of the ceremony. If you don't anticipate anything changing between now and the time of your ceremony, then no need to procrastinate.

If that section on bringing your re-entry permit/refugee travel document does not apply to you, then don't worry about it. Just take your GC and completed N445 along with the oath ceremony letter with you. All the best to you!!!

  5. WEEEE HOOOO! IT IS FINALLY OVER! Armando took his oath last Monday. (We're expecting the jury summons any day now. ;))

Congrats to Armando. He may be as lucky as I am - never getting a jury summons. I have been a citizen for 6 years and have never been called for jury duty. If my hubby gets called before me, I would be very disappointed. I want to experience jury duty at least once.

Very happy that all is done.

Canuck - so happy to hear that you got your oath rescheduled!

  6. Just a quick question on the back of the Form N-445. One question 1. My wife and I are not 100% sure how to answer this question.

Have you married, or been widowed, separated or divorced? Should we select "yes" since we are married? Or select "no" since my wife who is taking the Oath didn't remarry after her interview? I was thinking of "yes". What did you guys put?

Lace, if you are not entirely certain, you could leave that particular question blank and answer it at the ceremony. There may be some time before your wife is seated for the ceremony and there will be USCIS employees that are monitoring the line. She can clarify that question then, but I will agree with the PP to think that it's talking about any changes since the interview was conducted.

Congrats to your wife and the day is almost here

  7. Congratulations to your wife on passing the citizenship interview and hopefully she won't have to wait too long to get her oath ceremony scheduled.

Here's an excerpt from an oath ceremony in July 2008:

The actual ceremony will take less than an hour, but due to the amount of persons that may be sworn in, they ask you to come early so that they can get the new citizens checked in and seated, plus of course their visitors accommodated to see the ceremony.

They will have a video message from the President welcoming the new citizens, the singing of the National anthem and video that show the faces of immigration accompanied with the song, "

". The reading of the oath of allegiance that's at the end of the application form and of course the pledge of allegiance.

I hope that was a good overview for you.

Yes, the letter you receive for the oath ceremony will instruct her to bring her green card with her and any travel documents to show whether she traveled outside of the country in between her interview and the ceremony. They will take the green card before the ceremony begins and at the end of the event, she will receive her naturalization certificate.

All the best to you and Congrats again!!!!

  8. Yes, you need to get your 2008 tax return. You can go to the IRS website and request a tax transcript for 2008 for free:

You can obtain a free transcript on the IRS.gov Website (www.irs.gov) by clicking Order a Transcript under the Online Services option, or by calling 800-908-9946 and following the prompts in the recorded message, or by completing and mailing a request for a transcript to the address listed in the instructions.

They can fax the transcript to you the same day or you can have it mailed out to you. You will get it within 10 business days. Good luck and congrats on getting your interview.
