Your husband will be moving to Europe for this federal job? If so,you might be able to apply for expedited citizenship under 319b.

In order to not loose my German citizenship, I may not apply for US citizenship until I have permission from the German government. I do not want to loose my German citizenship so I won’t be applying for US citizenship any time soon.

My question is: if my husband has official work orders, can I live in Europe as a green card holder without loosing LPR?

  2. My husband is a federal employee and I’m a GC holder. Currently living on Guam. I would like to move back to Europe for a while then apply for US citizenship.
I was told we could live abroad, maintain residency for me and actually count that time spent overseas as if it were time spent in US. As long as he has official “military orders”. Is this true?

Did you change your name on the marriage certificate? Is your GC in your maiden name or married name?

    https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/04-FamilyMatters/name-declaration-marriage/911866

The name of a German citizen does not change automatically by marriage alone. Therefore, a name declaration might be necessary before a German passport can be issued in the new name.

My marriage certificate has my maiden name. I did change my name on my US documents such as GC, drivers license,.. and actually had an appointment at the German consulate for a name declaration to get it changed in Germany but were missing paperwork for the process so we decided to try and keep my maiden name in German passport. Now they are asking for documentation of my name change

  4. Good afternoon,

I am trying to apply for community college, but am confused as far as documents needed from Germany. Before moving here, I got my Mittlere Reife (High School Diploma I believe) in Germany. Then went to Fachhochschule, which did not work out, so I did an Ausbildung (3 years apprenticeship). Is that apprenticeship considered an Associate Degree? I was told I will need official transcripts from Germany, are those Abschlusszeugnisse, and if so, will I need both from my Mittlere Reife and Ausbildung?

Did you already file taxes? If not, you now qualify for the first two stimulus (*see Line 30 below) because you now have SSN. You are a resident alien for tax purposes because of the Substantial Presence test: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/substantial-presence-test After filing taxes with your SSN, the IRS will send you third stimulus separately using the info from your tax filing.

With no income I have to file taxes? My husband is filling jointly I believe

    Hello,

I live in Houston and I filed for a family based Adjustment of Status and EAD in May 2020. I haven't received any news since July of last year. I have been trying to use the online tools to create a request for an outside processing time case but I haven't received any response... and calling the USCIS number is worthless because of the automated voice which doesn't allow me to talk to a representative. Is there anybody else in the same situation? Is this normal?

Is there any other number to contact USCIS?

    Thanks!

When calling, try asking to schedule an appointment. This usually works for me.

It's not a TX thing. In other states (Colorado, etc.), there is an option to instead take the official tests at a driving school: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dmv/faq-driver-license

Can I take my written exam or drive skills test with a school?

Yes. See our complete list of driver education schools who offer both written and drive testing along with driver training and education.

They offer this in Texas aswell I believe~

  8. I went to the DPS with an I-797C and expired I-94 and convinced them to run it through the SAVE system. The First Verification was not successful. Now it’s going through the Second Verification which may take 5-7 business days. The document I received at the DPS with DL# says, SSN is required to check the status on their website. I don’t have SSN. They did schedule an appointment for me for next week because they said the verification should be done by then. And told me, if it didn’t, to just not show up to the appointment. So with no SSN, and DPS hotline not taking my calls, how am I supposed to know if it went through or not?

    Hello,

Unfortunately, AOS has been taking a really long time in recent years.  Have you filed for EAD and/or AP?

I do not believe an immigration lawyer could speed up anything.

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I did. I filed AOS, EAD and PA as one package.
The estimated time range on USCIS website for EAD (I-765) at Texas Service Center is 2-5 month and I’m on 8 month now.

They also received my request for expedited processing on form I-765,  in September..

  10. I filed for AOS back in February and still waiting to be rescheduled for biometrics in Houston. I’ve called USCIS multiple times. Every time they tell me something different. It’s either that I’ve gotten reschuled for my appointment and the mail is on its way, or the mail got sent back to them, or an office should call me back within 48h but never calls. I’ve heard a getting a lawyer might accelerate your case?! Does anyone have experience with this?

I’ve gotten this far with no immigration lawyer, should I really consider one now?

The process is a little stressful but you have to be really patient,

    1. Go to the mega center, you can’t do it without a SSN

    2.  You have to take the test, in my opinion it was fairly easy

    3. if you pass the test, you are given a temporary license that you can only use with someone older than 21 present

    3.  You have to take the driving practical, I went to a private driving school to take it because the dmv has a long wait time. Follow the instructor instructions and you will pass.
    4.  After passing, You go back to the dmv with the sealed result. Do not open for any reason and they will give you a license that expires with your visa date.

Then show them your AOS noa1, they will tell you they need further verification. It takes five days, you can call Austin to verify if they are done. Then go back to the dmv for a 1 year license.

Note: not every worker at the dmv understands the k1 visa, you might have to explain it yourself.

i used an app called DMV Permit practice test genie, it was quite helpful.

    Goodluck with the process

Thanks for the App suggestion, very helpful!

so Its impossible to geht a DL without SSN? I don‘t habe one

Hi all! Long time stalker first time poster. We filed our AOS in feb and it got rejected a month later because of the new public charge rules. So we redid it and sent it through in May. I received a biometric letter for the Houston office in August but the date of my appt (27 Aug) a hurricane was coming through and the office was closed. It is now Sept 22 and I haven’t received a rescheduled letter. I’ve tried calling the USCIS number and keep getting cut off so haven’t been able to speak to anyone. Am I able to go to the office and try to get my fingerprints done as a walk in? Can I contact anyone to try to reschedule my appointment?

I’ve been in the country since Nov 2019 twiddling my thumbs and hating every minute I’ve been here. I’ve genuinely reached the depths of despair. How are other people’s applications faring who filed in May?

We filed AOS back in February aswell, got scheduled for biometrics in March. Got cancelled due to COVID and still haven’t received rescheduling.. we’ve been waiting for 7 month now. Be patient 🙂

Yup, but sometimes the IO makes mistake at I-485 interview and is stubborn about it. There's a few K-1 AOS cases below as rare examples:

Interesting.. In this case, my medical might be expiring next month! Today I went and got my vaccines updated and got my form I-693.

Do you suggest sending in my I-693, or rather wait for my biometric interview and take it with me then?

  14. Hello everyone, hope someone can help..

We filed I 485 with I 765 and I 131 back in February. But didn’t include my medicals in the package, since I was still missing some vaccines. I had the medical examination in Germany back in October (so it’s about to be one year), and I’m trying really hard to find a surgeon here in the USA to file I 693 for me without having an additional examination! I’m in Houston, Tx - any recommendation? 🥺

..when does my medical from Germany expire?

Hi guys. I sent out my application on Monday 2/24. I tracked the package and it got to the Dallas Texas lockbox on 2/26 morning. It’s been two days and I haven’t gotten any text or email about confirmation of them receiving the package? Am I being too impatient? What is the typical time they take to send out the NoA? Worried I did something wrong or sent to the wrong place... thanks in advance for any responses! Probably just my anxiety ....

Hey! I sent my package 2/22, got delivered 2/24 und just now received a text message saying my case was received. So  it took 5 days between the package being delivered and them sending the message. Be patient 🙂
