Not sure where you live but you are not limited to the Houston consulate as you can renew at any consulate.

Texas. Travelling now to other consulate/embassy is not viable for us because of the pandemic. However, thank you for the information that I can renew my passport at any consulate than at Houston.

  2. As there's no available dates for passport appointment, the Houston consulate advised me that: "You may also avail of the passport extension (passport must not be expired), valid for one (1) year, for those who do not wish to travel to the Consulate or can not get an appointment. The extension validity will start from the date the Consulate received the passport and not from the date of expiration of the passport. " When I read the application form, there's a disclaimer there which states that: "... the extension of validity of my passport is no guarantee of admission to country/ies of destination (if applicable)."

Has anyone tried extending their passport and did you encounter any problem going back to the US? Thank you for any information.

  3. Hi, all. I want to give an update for I finally went to the consulate office in Houston. This is for the information of those from Texas,  Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma (states covered by the Philippine Consulate General in Houston).

"...showing the number of marriages contracted by the parties and issued by the Office of the Vital Records or any other appropriate office of the State where the marriage took place. If the number of contracted marriages does not show, one certified copy and two regular copies of the marriage license showing the number of marriage must be additionally submitted." (I just gave copies of my Marriage Certificate. No additional question asked)

"Also, the Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage needs to be notarized. Can I have it notarized by any public notary in Houston or does the consular office/Philippine embassy requires a notary public authorized by it? Or, is it possible to have the affidavit notarized at the consular office?" (The Report of Marriage and Affidavit can be notarized by any notary public. If it's a Special Power of Attorney, they require that it be notarized by a notary public auhtorized by the consular office.)

Last, can I file the ROM and apply for a renewal of my unexpired passport (I want a new passport under my married name) on the same day? No, it can not be done on the same day. Only after  I have received whatever it is I am supposed to receive three days after filing the ROM can I file for the renewal of passport under married name.

Thank you all for your assistance.

You've confused the heck out me here, but I'm always eager to learn. I would have assumed there is no difference whatsoever between someone who leaves shortly after AoS while AP request is pending  vs. someone who leaves shortly after AoS without ever requesting AP. Yes, no difference. It is not advisable to leave the US without an AP.

Does it matter if AP has been requested if the the person leaves without AP approval?  Nope. Without an AP it is not advisable to leave the US.

Hi! We just got our interview date for my AOS. The mail indicates to bring evidences and so I was wondering if I should also bring the similar copy of the packet I sent for my AOS application?  Yes, just in case. Our notice also indicated to bring original copies of some of the documents.

Also, I wasn't able to do my medical examination and so if I have it within this week, would it arrive before my interview?  You should with the clinic/doctor.

    Thank you for your response!

I did not have any of my documents notarized before I went to the consular outreach. They made us (me and my hubby) sign the documents in front of the personnel.

I was just at the event for ROM but the personnel suggested I do my passport renewal too...  Para isang bagsakan na lang :)

Yes, I do understand that my husband and I can only sign the documents that need to be notarized before the officer. The personnel who made that suggestion to you was very helpful.

  7. Hello. I'm new in this forum and I need some clarifications on the requirements of Report of Marriage (ROM) and the Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage. I'm from Texas and I hope that someone from this state or from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, or Oklahoma can answer my inquiries.

The website of the Houston consulate office enumerates:

"One (1) original or certified true copy and four (4) copies of the Marriage Certificate or Contract (original will be returned) showing the number of marriages contracted by the parties and issued by the Office of the Vital Records or any other appropriate office of the State where the marriage took place. If the number of contracted marriages does not show, one certified copy and two regular copies of the marriage license showing the number of marriage must be additionally submitted."

I checked our Marriage License and Certificate, and there is no statement or box that states the number of marriages contracted by the parties. I have both the original and certified copies of the marriage license and certificate. Are the Marriage License and Certificate not enough for the requirement?

Also, the Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage needs to be notarized. Can I have it notarized by any public notary in Houston or does the consular office/Philippine embassy requires a notary public authorized by it? Or, is it possible to have the affidavit notarized at the consular office?

Last, can I file the ROM and apply for a renewal of my unexpired passport (I want a new passport under my married name) on the same day?

Thank you to anyone who can help out!
