Update for me:

Had my interview today - passed! I am SO happy!

My oath is tomorrow morning. Can't believe how lucky I am to get an oath ceremony so soon.

It's particularly wonderful as it means I can travel to Australia sooner to see my father who has been critically ill for some time. There was a long stretch of time where I was worried he would pass before I got my citizenship and got home to see him. God willing I'll get to see him yet.

Good luck to all of you who have interviews soon, and a big congratulations to those who have passed the interview/waiting on their oath ceremony or just completed their oath ceremony.

Thanks for your reply. My interview/appointment is early in the AM, I think it's around 7:30-8:00-ish. Can I ask the interviewing officer about expediting my oath (once I've passed, of course)?

I've read previously that if you pass your citizenship test the day of your interview, you can sometimes be sworn in as a citizen the same or next day. Is that accurate? My father's health is in severe decline and I am anxious to get to Australia to see him before he passes. Do you always have to wait for an oath ceremony months afterwards, or is it possible to be sworn in within a few days of passing your test/interview?

Hi All,

For those of you who have already completed the naturalization process, I'm wondering if any of you had your N-400 application expedited?

Quick backstory: I came to the US on a K1 visa. I'm an only child, and my parents live in Australia. They're in their late 60s and have no family around them.

We learned this week (Tuesday) that my father may have stomach cancer. We are waiting on the results to come back. I sent my N-400 application in on Monday. Talk about bad timing.

My question is this: If my father does indeed have stomach cancer, as his doctors suspect, is there any way I can get my application expedited so I can travel sooner? As I understand it, stomach cancer is one of the most aggressive forms and I wouldn't like to hedge my bets on my father being around until the application was processed over a normal time frame. That, and I obviously want to be there for my parents to support them during this time.

If it is possible to expedite it, what sort of documentation would I need? I imagine I'd need confirmation (sworn affidavit?) from my father's doctor and possibly from my mom?

If anyone could give me any insight into this, I'd appreciate it. I'm planning on calling USCIS in the next few days, but I just thought I'd ask in case anyone could throw some light on the process.

I'm definitely going to get my parents-in-law to write a letter.

I've also had a search and found some memberships I'd forgotten about that I can include copies of membership cards, letters, etc in the application.

I've added my husband to one of my credit cards, that updated info will arrive in a few days and I'll include copies of statement showing both names.

I've got photos of a recent family reunion in europe and the credit card statement in my name showing hotel charges/airfares, etc.

I've also got a receipt for a gift I bought my husband on Amazon. The receipt shows his address as the delivery address and the same address as my billing address.

I'm also including a copy of the credit card statement with the charge for the gift listed on it.

I'm pretty much going to swamp them with every single piece of (relevant) information/evidence I can possibly think of.

What does the RFE ask for? It will be easier to give advice if we know what they're asking.

Here's what they're looking for:

A) ID documents:

So, in our case driver's license & state ID card - done.

B) Evidence of good faith marriage:

Financial Documents:

1) copies of bank statements that reflect joint accounts - (We have a joint savings account, but it has very little activity on it.)

2) tax returns, insurance policies (We have both health insurance and my husband has a life insurance policy naming me as the sole beneficiary)

3) copies of credit card transactions after date of marriage up to the present - (Any credit cards are in my name.)

4) copies of loan documents - (We don't have any loans)

Residence

1) Copies of rental/lease agreements (we live with his parents, and don't have any such agreements)

2) Copies of mortgage contract (None)

3) Copies of utility bills ( they're all in my husband's parent's name)

C) Other Evidence of a Bona Fide Marriage

1) Documents that reflect both the name of the US citizen spouse and conditional permanent resident, such as vehicle title registration (all cars in his parent's name), memberships, etc. (We don't own a car, but we do use a 'family car' that is registered to his parents. We contribute to the cost of car insurance, etc. No other memberships I can think of. I don't think Netflix counts! Ha.)

2) Copies of photographs of both the US citizen spouse and conditional permanent resident on vacations, trips, family gatherings, etc after date of marriage - (One of the few easy pieces of evidence. We can readily provide this.)

In our original submission we included all sorts of information, as much as we had at the time, including 4 separate affidavits from friends/family. We don't have a lot of the information requested because we live with his family.

We're planning on sending copies of our driver's licenses as part of the evidence, along with utility bills/pay stubs in our names as proof of same address.

My husband has also written a separate cover letter indicating why we are unable to provide specific pieces of evidence requested. I'd love to be able to send in all the documents they're asking for, but due to our living/financial situation, it just hasn't happened the way we planned.

We're going to do our best to provide as much of the evidence as requested. Bottom line, we can only give them what we have and hope for the best.

My husband and I received an RFE in response to my I-751 petition to remove conditions on residence.

A number of documents that the USICS are requesting, we just don't have. We have been living with my husband's parents (he's the US citizen) since I came to the US, and as such don't have things like utility bills in our name or rental/lease agreements. I have a cell phone account and a few credit card accounts, but they're in my name only. We also have separate bank accounts. We have a joint savings account, but it is not our primary account and so there is not a lot of activity showing on it. We don't have a lot of the 'normal couple' documents/accounts because we're still living with his family, and that is super frustrating.

We do have health/dental insurance policy showing my husband as the main cardholder and myself as the sole beneficiary. Same goes for a life insurance policy. However, we have only recently gotten these accounts as my husband started a new job not long ago after a extended period of unemployment. (Neither he nor I collected any kind of benefits during that time, as we believed it would be a breach of my visa. As such, things have been very tough, financially.)

When we submit the evidence we do have, should we explain why we haven't send other types that were suggested/requested? Or just send what we have? Should I send copies of bills like cell phone, credit card, etc even if they only show my name and not my husband's?

Also, will a decision be made based on what we send them now, or will they interview us first before making a final decision?

That's what I thought, I just wanted confirmation.

The 90 day window starts for me on August 11th. I'm leaving the US on July 31st and returning the 2nd week in September. So I'll be back well in time before the end of the 90 day period in November.

I have a 2yr conditional residency/green card at the moment. It's due to expire in November. The 90-day window starts in August, when I have to file to remove conditions.

I'm traveling overseas at the end of July for family reunion, but I will be back well before the 90 day period is up.

A) will there be any problems with my being outside the country when the 90 day period begins?

B) will there be any problems with my filing in the second half of that 90 day window, after I return from overseas?

I tried calling USCIS earlier today to get these questions answered, and got nowhere.

I just got through to USCIS and they said the same. As long as your GC is valid through until you come back to the U.S., and you're not going to be gone longer than a year, then the GC is enough.

I want to travel to Australia in early November for ten weeks. I'm currently a green card holder with conditional residency.

Do I need to apply for a re-entry permit before I leave the U.S.?

I tried calling USCIS but there is no option on their automated phone menu for travel-related inquiries.

hey your k-1 has expired so u can't use it any more anyway, but i'm sure u want to keep it, I know i do! have u called a Aust consulate near u? when u renew yr passport they give u yr old one back unless its seriously damaged & u can renew it in the US. here is the link http://www.australianyc.org/nycg/Passport.html

Has anyone had to renew their Aussie passport before they got permanent residency? My Aussie passport is due to expire early in the new year, but I need to renew it as I'm planning on going home for a few weeks in April. The problem is that my K1 visa is in my old passport, and I'm pretty sure I'll have to relinquish it to get a new one. Trouble is, I need the passport with the K1 in it to re-enter the US on my return.

Did you ever received a letter that says your Case Was Transferred to Another Office? How about the welcome letter?

Yes, I got a letter saying my case was transferred to the California service center about two months ago.

I got a Welcome letter with the permanent conditional resident card, and listed the CSC as the adjudicating office.

Some don't have an interview like me and you. Congratulations.
