I contacted CBP regarding the new public charge rule, as I’m scheduled to enter the US on CR1 tomorrow.

    Here’s the email reply:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Information Center.

Being a public charge has always been a ground of inadmissibility for CBP so there is no change for CBP, however, Immigrant Visa holders will not be denied entry to the United States.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will monitor the new public charge rules when you apply for services in the future as well as with new applicants for Immigrant Visas.

Thank you again for contacting our office.

I’ll add on to this thread should I encounter any specific public charge questions, requests, etc.

Thank you very much for posting this information. Can you please let us know once you make it to US about your experience and any questions which got asked.

  2. My parents are appearing for an interview on November 19th. Both of them have Diabetes and High Cholesterol. Here is what I am planning to do to support their ability to pay for health insurance

    1. Purchasing a visitor coverage insurance with full pre-existing conditions coverage and $100K policy benefit

    2. Sending a letter to consulate stating that I will take full responsibility to pay for their medical insurance.

    3. I am enclosing my income, my savings, my investments as an evidence of my financial viability to pay for their insurance

    4. Generating a quote for unsubsidized insurance on Healthcare.gov and show that my current income and savings should be able to cover their insurance expenses

    5. Enclosing income and savings of my parents (converted to USD) which can show they have adequate savings to purchase insurance on their own

I would really appreciate your feedback on my approach.

    Thanks
