My husband had a similar situation to yours. He had super basic English from whatever he picked up at work. He started studying the civics questions off of YouTube some time in November and I banned everyone in our family, myself included, from speaking to him in Spanish He also got the flash cards with Spanish/English translation of the civics questions but he was still struggling. We ended up getting Cursos con Fernando and it helped him tremendously. What he couldn’t grasp in 4 months he picked up in three weeks. It was definitely worth the investment. Good luck!
