  1. Hi, quick question! I’m currently holding a permanent residency in Canada and my card expires in 2years. I’m in the process of adjustment of status here in US. I’m wondering if I need to cancel my Canadian permanent residency to get the green card or just wait for the Canadian PR expires? I’m just not sure if having a permanent residency in a different country will affect getting the green card here in US or it doesn’t really matter.

    Thank you!

Is your current SSN in the name you want to use? If its in your maiden name and you want change your last name (which is done by applying for AOS in married name), check yes and they will send you a new SSN card in married name.

or did you already get SSN in married name? I was under the impression that you can't do that until EAD approval, which is done in married name if you applied for it with your married name, but maybe i'm mistaken

I applied and got my SSN after I got married. So the name on my SSN is already my married name. And yes, you may apply for SSN before EAD gets approved

I am in your same situation so would love to know when you hear anything! Thank you!

Sorry about that :( it's really so frustrating! Checked my visa status and the case was last updated on Oct 22 under administrative processing. I hope to hear from them very soon! Will keep you posted :)

No one can say for sure. Follow the progress on ceac.state.gov and use your DS=160 confirmation number for faster searching. When your status changes to non=immigrant from immigrant you are getting close. AND, yes sending the passport is a good sign. More patience.

Thank you! Hope to hear back from them soon

  4. Hi,

I had my k1 visa interview in Montreal on Oct 2, 2019. I received a 221 g letter from the consular officer and was asked to send them a fingerprint-based Canadian police certificate for purpose of immigration based on privacy act and my passport. I sent them those documents on Oct 17 and they received it on Oct 18, 2019.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to process this kind of case? Also is there a high chance that i will get the visa after they process our case since they asked for my passport?

    Please and thank you!
