hi everyone! i just wanted to see if anyone got any news or and issuances? my husband got an email asking him to go for another medical exam as his previous one has expired and he’s been getting updates almost everyday on the ceac website

Hello! Oh that’s so great! Congrats! When was he asked to do remedical? My last update was on May 6th and it hasn’t updated again since then.

I also wanted to update the DS-260 but before I wanted to check with them. and when I wanted to submit an inquiry there is stating that this massage "Once submitted the DS-260 online form cannot be opened for updates unless a consular officer has reviewed it and request the updates."

Oh that’s weird because we didn’t get an email to update the DS-260, but were still able to update it. I updated it in March and now it says “submitted.”

If you haven’t already you should do an inquiry with the Senators office. We got some extra information this way, the office for us was great, they were sending an inquiry every month. It also makes a difference in time too if the sponsor is a US Citizen vs resident. Inshallah they will catch up in this time and you’ll be contacted soon.

Yeah, I did contact my congressman in September and he did get in touch with the embassy in Kabul. Thank you for your kind words. I hope your medical is done soon and get the visa in hand.

I was checking regularly and it only updated when there was any inquiry either by us or the Senators office. It’s exactly as I suspected, anyone put in AP just is put in a queue and it’s taking about a year and a half cycle. I know because everyone who had an interview around same time as us (September 2018) was contacted around the same time as us. My husband went collecting everyone’s phone number and did a survey getting everyones details and it was all the same pattern. That whole year and a half it was just sitting at the embassy doing nothing, no “processing” is being done. It just depends how backed up they are on certain visas but they’re doing it in order. We were contacted in February so it makes sense for you having an October interview you were recently contacted.

Yeah that’s what I’m hearing from everyone. It just worries me because my husband’s interview was 2 years ago. May of 2018. We just had our 2nd update on May 5th in these 2 years. We haven’t been notified of the case being almost complete nor a second medical. Still, every case is different and it depends on the speed of the CO working on the case also. We are praying for the best and really hope all of us waiting for our spouses get reunited soon inshallah.

If your aunt hasn’t had contact with the embassy in awhile she should send an inquiry using their online form, there’s one for expired status, as the cases automatically expire when some time has passed with no activity. Just a little note saying still interested in immigrating to the US. Also check the NVC website you might find your DS-260 as “re-opened” this happened to us so we updated it, signed and resubmitted. It should always be in submitted status. Our visa class was also updated from CR-1 to IR-1 when they contacted us to re-medical. We probably weren’t updated because our AP is complete per the email we received. I just checked and it’s still the March date. I’m guessing with the embassy closed they’re probably catching up on other cases.

Yeah, we emailed the embassy in March and notified them of the expired status and they didn’t reply nor did they update it back to AP until yesterday. Also in the beginning of March we updated their DS-260 because it was open. So now everything is back to normal thankfully. Soon you guys will get the passport back with the visa inshallah. Hopefully this COVID-19 goes away soon. Thanks for the info by the way!

haha that’s all we can do!! mine also still says refused but it’s the first time i’m getting an update without inquiring so it’s exciting but i’m trying not to get my hopes up too soon. inshallah this is the end of the process

Inshallah it is near the end for all of us. Just checked my aunts case and they updated it again from “expired” to “refused”. Very good sign!

salam! I saw your message and decided to check my husbands account and i also got an update on may 6 2020 and i applied for him in august of 2017 and he had his interview september of 2018

Oh that’s great! Maybe it’s automatically updating on its own? Because my aunt had an update on May 6th 2020 also. I wonder if anyone else had their case updated. Actually my aunt’s says expired and to reapply. I helped her email the embassy to check why the status is “expired” in the beginning of March, however they have not replied yet. Her “last updated” Status was changed to May 6th 2020 but her case still is showing as “expired.” Mine says “refused.”  I am thinking maybe the embassy itself is closed, but they may be working remotely on old cases? Lol, maybe I am just trying to think i positive and hope for the best.

I don’t know why your case updated but ours has not updated since March when they stopped working. As far as I’m aware they’re still not processing visas. My husband was in line for another re-oath or interview according to the Senators office. He had been called in for re-medical. Another person he knows was in the last group that got to pick up their passports but are stuck because there’s no flights!

Oh that’s odd. Yes, I also know someone who picked up his passport but then flights got cancelled so he is still waiting. I checked the Itn my aunt who applied for her husband in December of 2016 (1 month before me) and she also got an update on May 6th 2020.

  9. Salam Everyone,

Does anyone have any idea if the Kabul Embassy is working on AP cases or are they completely shut down? In exactly a week it will be 2 years since my husband had his interview and his passport was kept. He’s been in AP all this time. I applied for him in January of 2017. I wish everyone waiting to be together with their loved ones will be reunited soon.

  10. Hello Guys,

I hope everyone is hanging in there. My husband’s interview was in May 2018 at the Kabul Embassy and we still haven’t heard anything at all from the embassy. The case doesn’t even update until we send an inquiry which lately they don’t even reply to inquiries. This is so difficult. I hope all of us get out of this black hole very soon Inshallah.

Not to rub it in for anybody but I just wanted to let you guys know that the Kabul Embassy is issuing K-1 visa. My fiancé was issued the visa about 1.5 months after the interview. I guess I just got lucky or something but all in all I am extremely thankful bc I know people have waited years to get a visa and my fiancé got it in about 10 months. Alhamdulillah

Oh that’s great to hear. I am glad you guys got reunited soon. When did you apply for him?

You applied in 2017? So did I. I applied on July 2017.but I also heard from others here that it takes 18 months on AP. Really this whole wait is too long

senator Rubio is really good with replying right away for inquiry requests. I sent an email last night and today they sent the inquiry and emailed me to inform me.

the Kabul Embassy doesn’t open until tomorrow so I’m hoping for at least an update.

Yes I applied January 31, 2017. However they requested a RFE from us because I only spent a week with my husband after our marriage and had to come back to the US because my semester at university was starting. So I sent them our chat logs and pictures to show it wasn’t a bonafide marriage. That lagged our case a bit which is why his interview was in May 2018.

Yeah, inshallah tonight they will give you an update. Hopefully soon you guys will be together.

I contacted them to ask why it shows incomplete after it was reopened. I asked them if we should sign it and resend but they replied back saying not to do anything at this time, so we haven’t touched it. Case still shows as incomplete and AP. We’ve been on AP for 15.5 months now and I will be submitting another inquiry with my senator next week. Hoping for the best.

Keep me posted on your case since ours is in the same Embassy

Oh okay, thanks for the info. Yes, I will keep you posted. I also contacted my local congressman last month and got the same reply regarding AP. Maybe I should contact my senator. We both have the same senator! Lol I am in Miami... I will keep you posted for sure and please you do the same. Also, as a side note. Ppl have been telling me that they know others that have applied for their husbands from Afghanistan and once 3 years are about to be completed or are complete, they get their visa issued. 3 years from the filing date. In my case 3 years will be complete January 31st, 2020. I don’t know how accurate this is but have heard this from multiple people.
