Couple of questions for anyone that has gone to Kenya for their interview from Uganda.
    1. Do you have to get your Medical exam done in Kenya? or can you do it in Uganda?   at IOM facility?

    2. Do you also have to leave the passport with Kenya Embassy when you get approved for Visa or since you are traveling to Kenya they would approve your visa and return passport same day?

    Thank You!

I've not gone through this but have relatives that have. Medical is done in Kenya at IOM. So you have to travel to Kenya for that.

Passport depends, it they approve you, they might ask you to leave the passport with them and have to pick it up from DHL location you specified with registering to confirm your appointment. But remember you won't be able to travel to Uganda and have to wait for it. If they don't and need additional documents, they will give you your passport with steps about what you need to do. In some cases, you will be asked to send the passport with the additional documents after you get back to Uganda or you will be asked to send additional documents and if all is in order, you will get an email to send your passport. It's highly unlikely you will get the passport the same day because of some administrative tasks that might need to be done. May be the next day or a day after.

  2. Question for y'all. Our case was DQ in May 2020 but considering the wait time for the whole of 2020, we submitted an Expedited Requested which was approved after a month. The Nairobi embassy sent us an email to go to IOM and get the medicals done. That's about 2 weeks ago from now. Until now, they've no scheduled an interview. We emailed them and they said they will schedule after they get the medicals, that was a week after the medicals were done. Do medicals really take that long? I don't think so. Do expedited requests take long to have interviews scheduled? How much longer are we going to wait before an interview is scheduled? We are starting to wonder if we made a mistake requesting for an expedited interview.

  3. Hey...

Any one with an idea how long it takes to get an interview appointment date at the US embassy in Nairobi Embassy after the IOM medicals. This was an expedited request that was approved and an email sent to do medicals at IOM. It's 2 weeks now and not appointment date scheduled. Last time we emailed them they said they will schedule after getting the medicals but do the medicals take that long?

No problem man. It was a roller coaster ride for us, and we had to stumble through it mostly on our own. There's surprisingly little info out there about stepchildren. If there's anything else you need, reach out to me anytime. Really wish you the best of luck, I know the feeling of wanting this process to be over ASAP so we can all be reunited.

Quick question. Have a step sister that mu father filed for a couple of years ago and have now gone through the NVC process and are waiting for an interview appointment at the embassy. Most likely around Nov or Dec 2021. Her mother was married to my dad but she passed away almost 15 years ago. When my father filed for her the mum had already passed away.

Any specific documents we need to have in hand to prove the step father/step daughter relationship? She does have the death certificate.

    Hi @MikiMo,

If requesting a medical appointment with IOM Kenya, send an email to iomnbomedical@iom.int with your name and confirmation of visa appointment letter.

    Example of email body:

"Hello, I am (Insert Name), from (Insert Country). I am requesting a medical appointment at the IOM health assessment center in Girigiri, Nairobi-Kenya. I have attached a scanned copy of my passport and the appointment letter for my (Visa Type) visa scheduled for (Date of Visa Appointment). I am requesting a medical appointment on (Date you want medical).

Thank you, please let me know if you need anything and guide me respectively."

For our case we sent our request for a medical appointment with IOM on July 10, 2021, they responded by asking for a telephone number, then we asked for a confirmation of the date confirmed and they were able to officially confirm our medical appointment on July 16, 2021. In total it took 6 days to schedule medical, but you have to be sure you already have your visa appointment scheduled.

    Thank you for the confirmation

They won't tell you unless you are very lucky in terms of the who answers the question.

I do know, just from hearing reports, that in the Embassy my wife and I are at (Nairobi), they are working in April 2020 DQs right now.

Hello, were you able to schedule an appointment with IOM? How long did it take?

    Hello all,

My (Ugandan) fiance and I are nearing the K1 Medical and Interview and we had success last month in scheduling our Medical exam with IOM in Nairobi, Kenya on August 19, with her interview following the next week on August 26. After receiving these confirmations of both the Medical exam and Interview, we went ahead and booked our plane flight. We just received a call from IOM today stating they will be closed on Aug 19 and that we needed to reschedule our medical appointment to August 24. Is two days enough for the medical results to reach the embassy? Will she still be able to have her interview and the results may just be delayed based on receiving of the medical results? Any positive input is appreciated. All other input will also be appreciated and taken with a grain of salt 😄. Many thanks.

Hello, how long did it take you to get an appointment with IOM?

Since last update this has happened. We frantically started trying to get in touch with IOM for medicals. My wife ended up going there. The good thing is that they gave us the current numbers for IOM which are +254 722 1000 ext 601/ 602 / 603 / 604 / 605 and 0709890000. (Those coming after this save those numbers). Medical test and vaccinations were done on the same day (25th June) and the total costs was Ksh 35K. She paid via MPESA. Meantime we setup the courier pick up point. Surprisingly, they asked we upload the latest taxes and W2s (2020) via CEAC portal. That request was done via email.

I flew in to Nairobi on Sunday night and on the interview day, yesterday we both got there at around 6:15am. We parked out some Warwick building next to the entrance. It's a public parking paid to Kanju (Ksh 200) though the GSU will seem to look like they run the place. They never sumbuad me after the kanju lady did her rounds since now the parking was paid for. She went in at 6:45am for her 7:30am interview. She left all electronics with me and just docs needed for the interview. She got done around 11:15am. I was so excited to see her walk up to me with a huge hidden smile (mask ofcourse). I knew one part was done.

As per her the docs asked for were civil docs (Marriage, birth cert etc) and most notably the latest Police certificate of good conduct and of course the PP. They asked for the small marriage cert (The Kenyan one issued and signed by witnesses, if you did a Kenyan wedding). That was done first by some staff, then the interview followed after some long wait now with the consular officer. Questions asked were -: how we met, when she saw me last, kids and I think that was it. She was told her visa is approved handed a note to that effect on DHL courier info (pick up) and another on paying the $220 USCIS fee for the green card.

Now waiting for the status to change from "ready" to "issued" then wait for DHL. Hope above info will be helpful to those that follow

How long does it take to secure an appointment with IOM in Nairobi?

Thanks for such a quick response 😀 You beat me at even browsing away from the this page. Yes, living together but not/never officially married the parent of the children.

Also, can the "certificate of no marriage" be an affidavit from the parent of the children or it has to be an official document from some institution?

    Great News! Congrats MikiMo,

Could you expand on your success, please?

How do you get a hold of the NVC

This fix happened with a communication from NVC or you just tried to make the payment everyday and finally you would be able to make it?

That is really important because of the new ruling coming this 24, right?

    Thanks!

As of today, all our cases have fees paid. The issue was fixed on all the cases. I've been calling NVC for about 5 months as often as I can and also submitting a public inquiry request from the NVC site with screen shots of the issue. Everytime I called and was asked for new information, I would provide it. It's very helpful to talk to someone at higher tier when you call if you feel you've provided all the details needed and you are still being asked for the same information. Some agents are not aware of the payment issue. Remember, NVC is not aware of the issue until you contact them. They fix it on a case by case basis. That's what I was told by the supervisor. If you don't get in touch, the issue will most likely not be fixed.

Hello MikiMo, I am in the same situation.

I got this terrible error around 1/07/2020 and I can't pay the AOS fee :

    - DB error occured rolling back: Service Fee 000031366090 has an active payment. This payment cancelled.

And now 2/01/2020 I got this:

    - An error occurred while submitting your payment. Please try again later.

Still unable to pay till this day 2//02/2020

    What I have done:

    - Try to pay on different times and days

    - Use different browsers

    - Calling the NVC number for immigrants

    - Filling up the NVC Inquiry Form

    - Sent the payment via mail, they returned the check

So far no response, can't pay, CSR on the phone just tells me to write the NVC.

Waiting 20 years to migrate to reunite with my family. I've always made fee payments without a hiccup but this time is different. Maybe the Government is holding the payments?

I see the NVC called you. I get a ton of marketing calls so could you share the number they called you from just to have it on my Contact List so I won't miss their calls?

    Thank You!

Unfortunately I lost the call history. Didn't save the number. The number would likely be from New Hampshire. You must have to ask to talk to someone that's above the first contact you talk. I believe they understand the problem more and are the ones that submit these types of cases to the technical team. We are also still waiting for this to get resolved. Right now we can't even attempt to pay. The payment status moved to IN PROCESS and has been stuck there for a whole week. Usually the status changes to IN PROCESS after you've made a payment, we didn't do that but there status changed to that.
